With these descriptions, intelligent/smart manufacturing that incorporates people, technology, and other resources has undergone a significant revolution leading the globe to the new era of Industry 5.0. Responding to disruption by employing intuition to decide what to do in a changing circumstance has grown to be highly attractive and exciting, even when it has never been utilized before. The domains of modern intelligent systems and computers have also made major strides in recent years. Examples include soft computing, computational intelligence, which encompasses evolutionary computing, neural networks, fuzzy systems, and the fusion of various paradigms. Others include immune-based systems, ambient intelligence, cognitive science, computational neuroscience and systems, perspective and vision, DNA, intelligent decision-making, and support etc. This technological breakthrough has...

The forecasting of the future condition, the remaining operating life, or probability of stable system behavior, based on data from acquired condition monitoring is referred to as prognosis which is an important part of the CBM process. Despite auto-regression integrated moving average (ARIMA) time series modeling, being long established and dating back to the 1960s, it has surged through new advances over the years and is now recognized as a major forecasting technique. Its application is therefore investigated here in the context of the FEMTO–ST Institute (Franche-Comté Électronique Mécanique Thermique et Optique-Sciences et Technologies) bearing dataset. The work discussed in this article uses a time series approach which contributes to modeling and forecasting the remaining usefu...

Using these nonlinear nonparametric approach to predict the RUL of a bearing is intuitively appealing. The applications of NNR model have surged over the years that it has now been recognized as a major forecasting technique in a forecaster's toolbox hence, its application here on the NASA FEMTO BEARING DATASET. The motivation for this paper is to check if without using the normal big dataset, structuring the NNR models would add value in its applications. Although comparing this results is worth doing, the ultimate decision remains with NASA FEMTO as we are checking our result against their obtained experimental value which is in their archive. In the end, for the time series concerned, we clearly showed that NNR models do indeed add value in the forecasting process and we hope that our predicted RUL for the dataset of NASA FEMTO provided which they want a predicted result is accepted within a close range.

The nonlinear system is decomposed into a multimodel structure consisting of linear models that are not inherently independent, due to the fuzzy regions defined in extsfrlsa. The extsfrlsa was developed to tune, adjust and adapt the parameters involved in the propagation model, as it tends to update itself with the availability of new data. This method is suitable for on-line identification of systems because of its unsupervised learning pattern which dwells on mechanism centred on rule-based evolution. Scenarios considered for the rule-based modification and upgrade are quite diverse, thereby ensuring effective comparism of measured and predicted defect size. An estimation of the remaining useful life was determined successfully with the proposed method, showing that the system performance health indicator reflects bearin...

Farming has over a long time being subsistence for obvious reasons, the need for efficient health monitoring mechatronics devices in the area of fish farming become therefore necessary for effectiveness and efficiency. This paper presents an overview of the need of novel techniques and technological solutions for the problems confronting traditional fish farming in Nigeria. The paper also analyzed the application of sensors for instantaneous health monitoring of aquaculture system with special reference to catfish. The requirements and the exploits into the visibility of fibre optic sensor application in this regards with consideration to structural intelligence were critically analyzed. Fibre optics is a major building block in the mechatronic infrastructure, its high bandwidth capabili...

In order to improve the quality of life of a blind person, the smart cane was therefore created. This project aims to develop a smart cane for the blind with an ultrasonic sensor and an audio feedback system. This embedded system will mainly have two parts; the system of mobility and feedback. It was been fitted with an ultrasonic sensor for the mobility system, while the vibrating motor and audio input will provide input from the ultrasonic and the vibrating module. An Ultrasonic sensor was used to send the signal to the vibrating motor as soon as an obstacle is detected, which in turn triggers it. With audio feedback alerting the user of the presence of the obstacle, the vibrating motor vibrates with various strengths according to the distance of the obstacle. One major component incorporated into this embedded system is an ATmega328 single-chip microcontroller which was programed in the c language of which the original programing was written with Matlab. It involves the use of a convolution neural network which was trained on the CIFAR 10 dataset. This dataset was chosen because of its composition of images of objects likely to be found as obstacles on a blind man’s path. A 93.8% accuracy was obtained from an unsupervised learning on the data set, after which the C Matlab coder was used to translate the source code into C language for effective embedding into the ATmega328 microcontroller.

Nine companies were chosen as models to represent the overall manufacturing sectors in Nigeria. The noise produced by the various machines and equipment used in the production processes in the companies was analysed. Results obtained showed that electricity generating sets produced the highest noise, followed by air compressor, boiler, pressing machine and other machines put together, in that order. The results also revealed that more than half of the total effects of noise are on workers. The effects of noise on workers are more of physiological than psychological. It is recommended that engineering controls combined with administrative controls should be considered as the methods that will provide thorough and permanent solution to the noise problem in the manufacturing companies.

The problem considers the optimal configuration of the PV panels during connectivity based on the choice of panels in series and in parallel. The optimal configuration problem is a non-linear mixed integer problem where the number of 0-1 integer variables is equal to the product of the number of panels and the number of subsets where the panels have to be assigned. This makes it difficult to be solved in real-time for reconfiguring the connection of panels. In this work, a local search greedy algorithm is proposed to allow a fast solution of the problem in real-time which necessitates the formulation of a fast linear solver. Finally, the proposed solution is validated through simulation.
