It underwent a nearly complete rebuild, which was spearheaded by award-winning Brooklyn architect Michael Ingui. A two-year renovation that wrapped this year and tediously acquired landmark approvals resulted in its new bespoke appearance that maximizes light throughout.
“The drama of the space and volume greets you the moment you enter through the parlor foyer,” a press statement says. That’s thanks to the hand-sanded white oak floors that were added during renovations, in addition to beautifully restored details like the stained-glass windows in the entrance area. A fireplace mantel there is another original feature.
Further in, a massive marble top island anchors the kitchen with custom millwork and built-in banquette seating. The rear garden and bluestone patio is also accessible through sliding glass doors in the space. An outdoor kitchen with a built-in grill and alfresco dining area beneath an Ipe pergola make the perfect gathering space for groups.
Take the elevator down one level to reach the garden floor, where the salon provides plenty of lounge space near the home office that doubles as a bedroom. The great room, meanwhile, sits at the heart of the home’s lowest level, with lounge and dining areas next to a wet bar, brick-clad wine cellar, and gym space.
Owners access the remaining six bedrooms above the parlor floor. A generous terrace sits off the third-floor primary suite with a walk-in closet and Calacatta marble-finished bathroom. The hand-carved staircase, capped by dual skylights, leads up to the level with one other ensuite, as well as the fourth floor that includes three other bedrooms.
A “club house” and den/bedroom span the top floor, alongside the roof terrace with a brick fireplace. A flight of stairs above the terrace sits the roof deck, where panoramic vantages of the New York City skyline and East River come into focus. In addition to the pad’s proximity to the area’s top dining and shopping, its owners also receive a deeded valet parking spot at the Parking Club less than a block away.
