Data was collected during actual 9-hole golf matches and participants received five interventions of the SFGI protocol. Results supported previous research that found SFGI to decrease yips. The current study extended past research by showing that the SFGI protocol was effective with multiple facilitators. Maintenance data collected 12-14 weeks post intervention also extended generalization over time. Results suggest that researchers should examine the effects of similar SFGI protocol on individuals experiencing task-specific focal hand dystonia across tasks (e.g., musicians, tennis players).

To gain more information on coach understanding and perceptions of the team environment, ten high school head coaches in the United States were interviewed to explore their experiences coaching openly LGB athletes. Qualitative analyses revealed four primary themes associated with coach experiences: team environment dogmas and observations, fundamental beliefs contributing to perceptions of LGB athletes, types and timing of sexual orientation disclosure, and differential LGB athlete characteristics. Future research should examine these primary themes in more detail through interviews with LGB athletes, as well as high school coaches in more traditionally mascu...

Using a sample of volleyball players (n = 233) and athletic directors (n = 19), the present study examined the congruence between required and perceived leadership behavior and the resulting satisfaction of Taiwanese athletes. Analyses revealed athletes were more likely to be satisfied when their perceptions of their coaches' positive feedback behavior conformed to the expectations of their athletic directors. These results confirmed aspects of the multidimensional model of leadership in a cultural perspective.

The purpose of this study was to identify coach characteristics and perceptions of their efficacy related to working with LGB youth athletes in the USA. An online survey was completed by n = 631 male and female head and assistant coaches from 25 different sports. Respondents filled out coaching demographics, team demographics, and the Efficacy Scale to Coach Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Athletes.5 Results revealed statistically significant differences in perceptions of LGB athletes between younger and older coaches, coaches who had previously coached openly LGB athletes and those who have not, and coaches with no religious affiliation and those who are Baptist, Catholic, or Protestant Christian. Although there does not appear to be a clear cut demographic of coaches who perceive themselves to be more effective when coaching LGB athletes, e...

Even rarer is the opportunity for female coaches to coach male sport teams. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experiences of women who have coached male athletes. Six female head coaches who had coached or were currently coaching a men’s team at the high school (n = 3), college (n = 2), or professional minor league (n =1) level were interviewed, and a cross-case analysis method was used for tagging data and determining themes. Five primary categories emerged: 1) participants had a diversified athletic history; 2) participants had a positive male coaching influence; 3) participants used an intense coaching philosophy, 4) participants felt support from family and athletic administrators; and 5) participants experienced gendering of the coaching role as masculine. Participants suggested that the lack...
