Make new recording of the presentation of Wikispeech from Wikimania
Open, Needs TriagePublic1 Estimated Story Points

Description

The recording of our presentation from Wikimania 2025 has several issues, including bad sound and out of sync slides. We can record each part separately and add them together. Some considerations:

  1. What program to use? We need recording of desktop and sound from microphone. The default screenshot program in Ubuntu seems to make good recordings, but there doesn't seem to be a way to record sound.
  2. What to say? We could either just do it from notes again or make a script from what we say in the existing recording. In case of the latter we could use it for subtitles too.
  3. Where to upload? We could add it as a new version of the existing one, but we want to keep the bit at the end with the questions. Also it should have a different name when we fixed the recording issues.

  1. If we want an alternative, we can record using Zoom.
  2. I think the easiest way is just to do it from our notes?
  3. Maybe there exists a program where we can cut in the questions-part into the new recording?

  1. Though i saw now that when the recording is done, I can't open them on ubuntu in an easy way

For 1) I tried again with Kazam and now I could record with microphone. I probably just picked the wrong device last time.

I also installed Kdenlive (again). It seems to be the go to program for editing. It's still a bit too much things I don't understand, but I managed to do some cutting easily so it should work well enough for this.

Thats great, that is probably better than Zoom actually, so we can go with that if it works seamlessly with Ubunti since Zoom doesn't really.

Also this is good!

I put my recording in drive under "Ett Wikispeech för alla -> Presentationer"

I think that I'm (finally) done with my part. I've started a render of both parts. I wanted to find out what the sounds like. There was some volume imbalance that I tried to fix with a normalise effect. You couldn't really hear how it would sound like in the program so I'll have to check when it's done.

There's still some work left to add the note to the start and the subtitles.

The render didn't work as I'd hoped. The sound started out way to loud. I'll see if there's another way to normalise it.

Which tool do you use for render?

Kdenlive. I've now extracted the audio and am attempting to fix it in another program.

I've now uploaded the video to Google Drive. Also added the text I was reading which should be usable for subtitles.
