I am a published author (publications more than 125) in the field of Life Sciences (Agriculture). In addition to my Field of specialization (Ph. D. and M. Sc. in Soil Science), I have completed a Master's in Project Planning and Management. Supervision and guidance of Master and Ph. D. students in their research and dissertations. I have produced 5 Ph. D. scholars. I studied at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan, and ITC, Enschede, Netherlands. I have worked in Pakistan, Oman, and Qatar in ministries and Qatar Shell. Currently, I am an Online Consultant with the Ministry of Municipalities and Environment Qatar (Nanofilteration Project) and working as a freelancer regarding academic work guidance and editing in Social Sciences (Project Management, Business, marketing, and ITC).

Performance of Sorghum Varieties in Potohar Region

Eight sorghum genotypes were evaluated for grain and other associated traits at the National Agri... more Eight sorghum genotypes were evaluated for grain and other associated traits at the National Agricultural Research Center, Islamabad, Pakistan in 2010. The results revealed that sorghum varieties differed significantly for grain yield, stalk yield, plant height, days to 50% flowering and maturity. Among varieties, SPV-462, CSP-15 and Johar produced higher grain yield (4120, 3898 and 3857 kg ha -1 ) than other genotypes tested. Varieties YSS-9 and SPV-462 produced higher stalk yield of 23820 and 23640 kg ha -1 , respectively. Sorghum varieties YSS-9 and CSV-15 took maximum days (75 and 74) to 50% flowering while variety PARC-SS-2 took minimum 63 days to 50% flowering. The varieties PARC-SS-2 and Johar showed earliness as they both took 108 days to mature while YSS-9 was found late maturing variety.

Nanofiltration as a cost-saving desalination process

A... more The water is a basic need for life including human beings, animals, plants, and microbial life. Although almost 75% of globe is covered by water in the form of oceans, only a small percentage of water is usable by living beings due to various salt content, pathogens, and contaminants. Good-quality water is highly scarce in dry regions of the world like Gulf Cooperation Council, South Asian and African countries. It is believed that the limited water supplies of water may worsen due to the inception of climatic changes ahead. The only alternative source is desalination of seawater/saline water. The traditional desalination technology is improving due to introduction of nanotechnologies like nanofiltration. The present studies were conducted at the research farm of Ministry of Municipalities and Environment (MME), Doha Qatar for 3 years (2016-2018). RO and nanofiltration plants were procured and installed at the research farm of MME. Electricity consumption was recorded, and quality of various types of water: feed water, product water, and brine water, was regularly monitored. The results of the study indicated that nanofiltration desalination process proved as effective as the RO but consumed 29% lesser energy. Therefore, the cost of water production was lessened by 29%, thus making the desalination technology as cost-saving and feasible.

A pot study was conducted at Soil Salinity Research Institute, Pindi Bhattian, Pakistan during th... more A pot study was conducted at Soil Salinity Research Institute, Pindi Bhattian, Pakistan during the year 2005 and 2006. The objective was to assess tolerance limits of Acacia ampliceps against different levels of sodicity ranging 10-70 mmol/l 1/2. It was noted that plants survived in all sodicity levels ranging from 20 to 50 mmol/L 1/2. However, plants could not survive in SAR of 60 and 70 mmol/l 1/2. The collected and statistically processed data of two years also indicated that sodium concentration in plant leaves highly increased while K + , Ca 2+ and Mg 2+ decreased with increasing levels of stresses. The plant successfully tolerated sodicity stress through ion selectivity (keeping K + : Na + ratio comparatively wider) and compartmentation. Acacia ampliceps improved the soil health through decreasing SAR of soil underneath the plants.

%melioration of saline-sodic soils through land preparation with three tillage implements (disc p... more %melioration of saline-sodic soils through land preparation with three tillage implements (disc plow, rotavator and cultivator) each followed by application of sulfuric acid at 20% of gypsum (CaS04.2Hz0) requirement or no sulfuric acid application during crop growth period was evaluated in a field study for 2.5 years at three sites, z.e., Jhottianwala, Gabrika (Thabal), and Thatta Langar, in Tehsil Pindi Bhattian, Hafizabad District, Pakistan. Within 2.5 years, there was a decrease in the salinity parameters measured (electrical conductivity, pH, and sodium adsorption ratio), with a gradual increase in rice and wheat grain yields. It was observed that the disc plow, which not only ensured favorable yields but also helped improve soil health at all the three sites, was the most effective tillage implement. Also, application of sulfuric acid resulted in higher yields and promoted rapid amelioration of the saline-sodic soils.

Secondary soil salinity has increased rapidly due to the persistent use of saline groundwater, and the extent is increasing due to increased pumping in Batinah region. The balance existing between total pumping and annual recharge before the 1990s has been disturbed that has resulted in the reduction of crop yields and gradual abandoning of lands for agriculture. In addition, seawater intrusion due to overpumping also occurs. In the year 2005, about 18.9–36.0 × 10 6 US$ was lost due to salinity. To tackle salinity problem, a project was undertaken at Sultan Qaboos University to mitigate soil and water salinity. The project focused on four approaches: soil rehabilitation, biosaline agriculture, fodder production, and integration of fi sh culture into crop production. The project was initiated with the objectives to develop scienti fi cally sound and environment-friendly guidelines for farmers (a) to sustain cost-effective agricultural production in saline agriculture lands irrigated with saline groundwater, (b) to improve food security of Oman, and (c) to combat deserti fi cation in agricultural lands to avoid abandonment. The salt-tolerant varieties of tomatoes, barley, sorghum, and pearl millet have shown promising results for successful cultivation in saline soils. Surface mulching with a thin layer of shredded date palm residues resulted in lesser salt accumulation and more crop yield than other methods. The fodder grown in saline soils using saline irrigation water did not affect growth and meat quality of sheep fed with this fodder. The incorporation of aquaculture in saline areas was proven feasible and profitable.

It is a new pest to Kargil and have been entered from Kashmir. No insecticide have been used in Kargil to control any insect on apple except for codling moth. Comparison for chloropyriphose and neem oil were evaluated at three location of District Kargil location of the District Kargil. Both the test insecticide, neem oil and chloropyriphose were proved best in reduction of Eriosoma lanigerum population density. The study revealed that there is no significant differences between chlorpyriphose 20 EC (Dursban 20 EC) and neem oil in reduction of Eriosoma lanigerum population density. Khan to investigate optimum dose of nitrogen (N) fertilizer and Farm Yard Manure (FYM kg/plant) for improving fruit bearing growth parameters of date palm cv. Dhakki. Four treatments consisted of (1) control (2) 0.5 kg N + 15 kg FYM (3) 1 kg N + 15 kg FYM (4) 1 kg N + 0 kg FYM/plant were applied. The results showed that 1 kg (N) + 15 kg FYM had number of fronds (38)/plant, plant spread (511.7 cm), plant girth (211.7 cm), frond length (253 cm), number of fruit (9.3)/stain, fruit weight (4.3 kg)/bunch and total fruit yield (26.58 kg)/plant at 5 year stage among all other treatments. However, the maximum values for these parameters including fruit yield (11.32 kg/tree) were recorded in control where no fertilizer or manure was applied.
