This work focused on the design and construction of a batch cassava peeling machine able to handle one diameter size of cassava tubers. The principle of abrasive peeling using a stationary outer abrasive drum and rotating inner abrasive drum was used based on a batch capacity of 5.1kg and cut tuber length of 200mm and diameter 70mm.An average peeling efficiency of 70.45% was recorded while the average flesh loss was 5.09% of broken cassava was estimated as 2%.Thus several processing operations have been mechanized in the production line of cassava products.Peel removal, which used to be a major bottleneck,is receiving attention from the design.Equipmentfor cassava peeling is now available for small, medium and large-scale cassava processors.

Every successive government had promised to do something drastic to stabilize the sector in other to drive growth in the industrial sector. However, more than hundred years of amalgamation of northern and southern protectorate and 54 years after the attainment of independent in Nigeria, the Nation is plagued with chronic under development in every area of lives including poor, unreliable and epileptic electricity supply.

It refers to their malleability, or plasticity during manufacture, that allows them to be cast, pressed, or extruded into an enormous variety of shapes-such as films, fibers, plates, tubes, bottles, boxes, and much more .The development of plastics has come from the use of natural plastic materials (e.g; chewing gum, shellac) to the use of chemically modified natural materials (e.g rubber, nitrocellulose, collagen, galalite) and finally to completely synthetic molecules (e.g., Bakelite, epoxy, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene).

The facilities at the machining, fitting, and welding sections of the Mechanical Engineering workshop were used for the construction of the machine and those at the Civil Engineering workshop were used for the production of the bricks. The material used for the machine parts is mild steel (rods, angle bars and plates), which was bought at scrap metal market in Ilorin metropolis.
