Le systeme comprend : un moteur de dispositif sensoriel pour generer une commande de dispositif sensoriel (SDC) dans le but de controler les dispositifs sensoriels sur la base des informations d'effets sensoriels (SEI) generees pour representer les effets sensoriels par l'utilisation des dispositifs sensoriels selon des contenus video, des informations de preference d'utilisateur (UPI) des dispositifs sensoriels et des informations de capacite de dispositif (DCI) revelatrices d'une capacite de reproduction des dispositifs sensoriels; et un controleur de dispositif sensoriel pour controler des dispositifs sensoriels dans le but de realiser une reproduction d'effet sensoriel en reponse a la SDC generee.

Sensible media manifests sensory effects in the media to real world by stimulating sensory organs of human. It is emerging as a new media to enhance the user's immersion towards media. For the successful deployment of the sensible media industry, an effective authoring tool is required to provide easy authoring of sensory effect metadata. The result of the authoring tool design and development based on MPEG-V(ISO/IEC 23005-3) International Standard is presented in this paper.

Using sensed data from a three axis accelerometer, the proposed algorithm can reliably measure the number of trials on four different outdoor fitness machines. The experimental results prove that the proposed algorithm is robust to any deformation of the sensor location as well as the various types exercise patterns.

Recently, researches to improve a quality and a color of a display are being actively studied bec... more Recently, researches to improve a quality and a color of a display are being actively studied because of the prosperous growth of the flat panel displays such as LCD, PDP and OLED. Automatically adjusting color temperatures based on user preferences is the one of the researches to provide the optimum display color. In this paper, along with defining the problems of prior methods, the user preferences against the priori defined ranges proposed by the MPEG-7 color temperature descriptor are inspected. Based on the analysis of user preferences, an optimal color temperature conversion curve is proposed. As a result of an analysis by ANOVA, tendencies of the user preferences against each range are proven to be similar to the prior research results. The repetition of the color temperature conversion against an image is not statistically significant.

In this paper, a method to extract temperature effect information using the color temperatures of... more In this paper, a method to extract temperature effect information using the color temperatures of video scenes with mapping to temperature effects is proposed to author temperature effects of multiple sensorial media content automatically. An authoring tool to apply the proposed method is also introduced. The temperature effects generated by the proposed method are evaluated by a subjective test to measure the level of satisfaction. The mean opinion score results show that most of the test video sequences receive an average of approximately four points (in a five-point scale), indicating that test video sequences (with the temperature effects generated by the proposed method) enhance levels of satisfaction.

The sensed information (e.g., temperature, humidity, light intensity, gas intensity) obtained fro... more The sensed information (e.g., temperature, humidity, light intensity, gas intensity) obtained from a user's vicinity plays an important role in the generation of environmental changes, the main character's reactions, and in storyline changes in the virtual world. In this paper, a method is proposed to transform sensed information from real world to standardized XML instances and to control virtual world objects. The sensed information from the real world is transformed into XML instances standardized by MPEG-V Part 5 (Data formats for Interaction Device) schemes and then delivered to a Real-to-Virtual (RV) adaptation engine. The engine generates another XML instance standardized by MPEG-V Part 4 (Virtual world object characteristics) that describes the control information of avatars and objects in the virtual world. The system is demonstrated by a real-world mock-up equipped with a sensor set and a virtual space realized in Second Life.

In this paper, in order to express the emotional information of ‘joy’ and ‘sadness’ as a scent ef... more In this paper, in order to express the emotional information of ‘joy’ and ‘sadness’ as a scent effect, a scent emotion evaluation experiment is conducted to select a scent that matches the emotion. As a result of one-way variance analysis of the results of the fragrance selection experiment, it was confirmed that Lemon and Bergamot can be used as fragrances that match the emotion of ‘joy’. On the other hand, Eucalyptus and Chamomile are not suitable for expressing the emotion related to ‘sadness’.
