Esse trabalho propõe a criação de um sistema de gerência de recursos computacionais em nuvens e s... more Esse trabalho propõe a criação de um sistema de gerência de recursos computacionais em nuvens e sistemas distribuídos, buscando qualidade de serviço, fornecendo um ambiente de alta disponibilidade com informações relevantes à tomada de decisão em sistemas tolerantes a falhas. A proposta se justifica dado o crescimento do uso da computação na nuvem, e que os recursos disponíveis nessas estruturas passaram a ser de difícil administração, normalmente por estarem geograficamente distribuídos e consequentemente prejudicando seu uso em sistemas de computação. O modelo prevê o uso de normalização de valores e criação de rotinas de diagnóstico para previsão de falhas, bem como monitoramento constante dos recursos sujeitos a degradação por meio de uso, falhas ou tentativa de ataque DoS, por exemplo.

In this paper we focus on two aspects: (1)the application of grid technology to allow a group of ... more In this paper we focus on two aspects: (1)the application of grid technology to allow a group of geographically disperse users to accomplish a given task collaboratively; (2) distributed scientific visualization through grid. Henceforth, we firstly describe some collaborative environments. Then, visualization techniques that can be implemented in grids are focused. These techniques can be integrated in a collaborative visualization system through grid technology. We end this paper with some considerations about collaborative visualization at the LNCC and final considerations.

Scientific Computing typically requires large computational needs which have been addressed with ... more Scientific Computing typically requires large computational needs which have been addressed with High Performance Distributed Computing. It is essential to efficiently deploy a number of complex scientific applications, which have different characteristics, and so require distinct computational resources too. However, in many research laboratories, this high performance architecture is not dedicated. So, the architecture must be shared to execute a set of scientific applications, with so many different execution times and relative importance to research. Also, the high performance architectures have different characteristics and costs. When a new infrastructure has to be acquired to meet the needs of this scenario, the decision-making is hard and complex. In this work, we present a Gain Function as a model of an utility function, with which it is possible a decisionmaking with confidence. With the function is possible to evaluate the best architectural option taking into account aspects of applications and architectures, including the executions time, cost of architecture, the relative importance of each application and also the relative importance of performance and cost on the final evaluation. This paper presents the Gain Function, examples, and a real case showing their applicabilities.

O principal objetivo deste trabalhoé a avaliação de duas meta-heurísticas inspiradas na natureza,... more O principal objetivo deste trabalhoé a avaliação de duas meta-heurísticas inspiradas na natureza, Algoritmos Genéticos e Colônia de Formigas, para o desenvolvimento de uma aplicação que possa gerar rotas otimizadas para aeronaves, atendendoàs exigências da Marinha do Brasil. Este trabalho apresenta os métodos desenvolvidos, obedecendo a duas restrições principais: a mobilidade dos pontos de checagem e a autonomia limitada das aeronaves. Apresenta também os resultados dos testes realizados com os métodos desenvolvidos e uma avaliação de seus desempenhos.

3D object position prediction is a complex process that requires association algorithms that can ... more 3D object position prediction is a complex process that requires association algorithms that can handle the use of linear and nonlinear filtering techniques. The models used in air traffic control systems, for being developed in two dimensions, are not suitable for applications with military targets due to the altitude variations of these objects. Thus, from the position information of an object in space obtained through a given sensor, in this work a method was used to deduce its velocity value, in order to compose the modeled measurement vector. With the data from this vector, the next position of the three-dimensional measured object is calculated. This model can be implemented in both civil and military systems, allowing real-time 3D object position prediction. As state estimators were adopted the Linear Kalman Filter and the Extended Kalman Filter with integration through the filter aggregator known as IMM (Interacting Multiple-Model). Numerical examples illustrate the applicability and performance of the proposed method.

ABSTRACT The increased use of virtualized environments has led to numerous research efforts about... more ABSTRACT The increased use of virtualized environments has led to numerous research efforts about the possibilities and restrictions of the use of these virtualized environments in cloud computing or for resource consolidation. However, most of these studies are limited to a level of performance analysis, that does not address the effects of concurrency among the various virtual environments, and how to mitigate these effects. The study presented below proposes the concept of affinity, based on the correct combination of certain applications classes, that are able to share the same environment, at the same time, causing less loss of performance. The results show that there are combinations of applications that could share the same environment with minimum loss, but there are combinations that must be avoided. This study also shows the influence of the type of parallel library used for the implementation of these applications

The first MGC workshop held on June 2003, in conjunction with the Middleware Conference, in Rio d... more The first MGC workshop held on June 2003, in conjunction with the Middleware Conference, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, MGC'2003, saw a variety of efforts in Middleware for Grid Computing. There were 16 technical presentations and discussions on several stimulating topics including, Classic Grids, Object Oriented technologies, Service-based Grids, Open grid Service Architecture, Agent Grid, Interactive Grid, Grid Economy / Scheduling, and Portlets. Following the workshop, extended and thoroughly revised versions of the papers were invited to a Special Issue of Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience Journal published in 2004.The 2nd workshop in the MGC series brought together researches in the field of middleware for grid computing, addressing topics that emerged from 2003, and some novel ones such as, Strategies and Protocols for obtaining Quality of Services, Virtualization, Wireless Grids, Data Grid Middleware, Semantic Grid Middleware, Dependability and Fault Tolerance in Grid Middleware and Managing Information. This workshop received an unprecedented number of high-quality submissions. Fifteen full papers and nine posters were chosen for the workshop proceedings out of the forty-eight papers originally submitted. The presenters highlighted issues and solutions in one or more of the themes identified for the workshop. Following the second workshop, thoroughly revised selected papers were invited to a Special Issue of Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience Journal to appear in 2005/2006.MGC'2003, MGC'2004 and MGC'2005, generated substantial interest in the community and it is expected that this interest will continue. Far from exhausting the topics of interest, they have paved the way for a third edition of the workshop in the series. For MGC 2006 workshop, researchers from the various GRID middleware communities were encouraged to submit and present original work to be considered for publication.The goal of the fourth edition of the MGC workshop is to bring together researches in the field of middleware, addressing largescale and real world problems in grid environments, including Grid and Web Services Architectures and Middleware, Object Metadata and Schemas in Grid Middleware, Programming Models and Tools in Grid Middleware, Resource Management and Scheduling, Strategies and Protocols for QoS in Grid Middleware, Information Services in Grid Middleware, Dependability and Fault Tolerance in Grid Middleware, Performance Evaluation and Modeling in Grid Middleware, Agent-based Approaches in Grid Middleware, Utility computing, Core Grid Infrastructure, Grid Security, Virtualization in Grid Middleware, Wireless Grids Middleware, Data Grid Middleware, Peer to Peer Protocols in Grid Computing, Network Support for Grid Computing, Grid Application Frameworks, Portals and Portlet Containers, Adaptive/Autonomic Middleware, and Messaging in Grid Middleware.The fourth workshop received a good number of high-quality submissions and fourteen papers were selected for these proceedings out of the forty-two originally submitted. The strong coupling constant for b quarks has been determined, and its avour independence, as pre... more The strong coupling constant for b quarks has been determined, and its avour independence, as predicted by QCD, investigated. The analysis involved events with lepton candidates selected from approximately 356,000 hadronic decays of the Z 0 , collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP in 1990 and 1991. A method based on a direct comparison of the three-jet fraction in a b enriched sample, selected by requiring leptons with large momenta and transverse momenta, to that of the entire hadronic sample, illustrated the signicant effect of the b quark mass on the multi-jet cross section, and veried the avour independence of the strong coupling constant to an accuracy of 6%.

We investigate the time evolution of the entropy for a paradigmatic conservative dynamical system... more We investigate the time evolution of the entropy for a paradigmatic conservative dynamical system, the standard map, for different values of its controlling parameter a. When the phase space is sufficiently "chaotic" (i.e., for large |a|), we reproduce previous results. For small values of |a|, when the phase space becomes an intricate structure with the coexistence of chaotic and regular regions, an anomalous regime emerges. We characterize this anomalous regime with the generalized nonextensive entropy, and we observe that for values of a approaching zero, it lasts for an increasingly large time. This scenario displays a striking analogy with recent observations made in isolated classical long-range N-body Hamiltonians, where, for a large class of initial conditions, a metastable state (whose duration diverges with 1/N → 0) is observed before it crosses over to the usual, Boltzmann-Gibbs regime.

The extension of a mobile agent facility architecture is proposed with the addition of an availability service and a transparency service. Transparent mobility of services is explored in applications using overall loadbalancing of resources. The search for a new destination agencies follows a transparent location and selection of available resources. Transparency is trimmed by a parameter defining the goal of the application.
