The compounds, Nmethyl o-iodobenzohydroxamic acid and N-methyl o-bromobenzohydroxamic acid have been isolated as crystalline solids, stable in air and soluble in organic solvents and in aqueous alcohol solution. A systematic investigation of the derivatives were carried out both in solid and in solution. They have been structurally characterized by elemental analysis, and the results were in good agreement with the values calculated for the proposed formula. These derivatives were further investigated on the basis of FT-IR, multinuclear 1 H, 13 C NMR spectroscopy, and Single Crystal X-ray crystallographic studies, indicating that both the compounds are structurally similar.

The structures of all these compounds were determined by using mass spectrometry, 1D-and 2D NMR techniques. The structure of the new indigoferamide-A was established by methanolysis as well as by GC-MS analysis.

Comment 2,5-Disubstituted-1,3,4-oxadiazoles and their derivatives are of significant interest due to their chemotherapeutic history (Singh et al., 1997). Based on the diverse biological activities of the 2,5-disubstituted-1,3,4-oxadiazoles and their derivatives, we have designed and synthesized some novel oxadiazole derivatives. We report here the structure of the title compound, (I). In the molecule of (I) (Fig. 1), the bond lengths and angles are within normal ranges (Allen et al., 1987).
