In 2018, the University of Ghana Library System (UGLS) experienced an unprecedented rotation of s... more In 2018, the University of Ghana Library System (UGLS) experienced an unprecedented rotation of staff within its main library and satellite libraries. The changes were long overdue as the regular rotation of staff by the Human Resource and Organisational Development Directorate (HRODD) somehow, never affected library personnel. Fifty (50) Junior and senior library staff who had been in one position for more than a decade were rotated within the UGLS. This paper reflects on how the change was achieved, the pre- and post- interviews of staff involved, and lessons learned one year later. Findings emphasize the value of communication, the structured process and transparency to make the change easier and implementation smoother. The paper concludes that regular rotation of staff and the management of such change are significant for the development of the UGLS and for the university as a whole. The purposive and convenience sampling techniques were used to select 14 SOH out of 37. Data used for analysis were drawn from personnel observations, examinations and face-to-face interviews with 26 respondents selected purposively from the 14 hospitals, giving a response rate of 93%. The key finding of the study was that the SOH had a fair degree of operational direction for the management of records but the available standards and practices for records management were not suitable. The study has demonstrated the need for state-owned hospitals in Ghana to have and develop good standards for the management of their records to help them attain their set goals and objectives in a more efficient and effective manner.

The study employed the cross-sectional survey whereby quantitative data were collected from a total of 417 respondents, who consisted of students and library staff from public, private and technical universities in Ghana. Findings indicated that the academic libraries have adopted and used a number of social media applications, with Facebook and instant messaging as the most popular and frequently used platforms, for the provision and access to library services and resources as well as for contacting the academic libraries. Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of demographics as moderators of t... more Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of demographics as moderators of the factors influencing library workers’ and library patrons’ behavioral intention toward the use of social media in university libraries in Ghana. The theoretical model for this study was based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). The study employed a cross-sectional survey and quantitative data was collected from a total of six-hundred and five usable responses obtained from the sampled respondents using a pre-tested questionnaire. Statistical analyses were carried out using the t-test analysis (using Levene’s Test for Equality of Variances) and the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique. Key findings were that although partial relationships were established, the mediating roles of the demographics of library workers and patrons on factors influencing the intention to use and actual use of social media in the university libraries were significant. Establishing the effect of the user demographics on factors influencing social media use in the context of the UTAUT is novel within the Ghanaian university library setting and thus contributes new knowledge to methodological discussions to improve practices and policies on social media adoption and use. However, since this study was largely quantitative, future research could include both quantitative and qualitative research approaches to explore any other important constructs that fit into the context and can explain adoption in further detail. Findings A key finding of the study was that although the academic libraries had operational directions for digital preservation activities in the institutional repositories, available standards and practices for ensuring long-term preservation seem to be unsuitable. Charged with the responsibility to 'preserve Ghana's collective memory by facilitating and overseeing the efficient management of records of all MDAs, PRAAD's mandate has been limited as a result of the department been starved financially. Support to PRAAD over the years has basically come from donor agencies like IRMT, DFID, and IDA of the World Bank, Danish government, National Archives of Netherlands among others. Consequently, this paper explores ways through which PRAAD is funded and attempts to identify ways in which PRAAD can strengthen its funding capacity through nationwide advocacy, publicity and other grant seeking activities. The study was guided by the qualitative paradigm. The Director of PRAAD, together with the heads of all the three departments (records centre, preservation service branch (PSB) and the archives unit) were interviewed. A major finding was that lack of funding and logistics had undermined the role of PRAAD. The paper further emphasized on the need for government to intensify support for PRAAD to enable the department to effectively and competently perform its mandate for the development of Ghana through safeguarding the nation's collective memory for informed decision making.

This paper reports empirical research findings on the relationship between the demographic factors of medical records management personnel at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, and their commitment to work, and proposes recommendations based on the findings. The study was quantitative. One hundred and six (106) copies of a questionnaire were administered to the 106 medical records personnel in the 28 clinical departments of the KBTH, and 92 (87 percent) were obtained in complete form and used for the analysis.
