Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) provides the fast, flexible and efficient solution to improve the power quality for such distribution network [8]. The active power, reactive power, variation of voltage, flicker, harmonics, and electrical behavior of switching operations are the major source of affecting power quality. The intent of this paper is to demonstrate the improvements obtained with DVR in power system network using MATLAB/SIMULINK. In this paper, an overview of the DVR, its functions, configurations, components, control strategies are reviewed. The Simulation results are presented to illustrate the performance of DVR in Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). The results showed clearly the performance of using DVR in improving THD level.
Automatic Generation Control of Hydro-Thermal Plant by Using Thyristor

In this paper the effects of known linearities like dead band & generation rate constraint on the system have also been investigated. The effect of TCPS on the system is demonstrated with the help of computer simulations. Computer simulations reveal that due to presence of TCPS, dynamic performance of the system in terms of settling time is greatly improved. The objectives of load frequency control (LFC) are to minimize the transient deviations in these variables (area frequency and tie-line power interchange) and to ensure their steady state errors to be zeros. The system performance will be checked by integral square error (ISE) parameter. Disturbance in load is checked individually of both plants in MATLAB simulink. State spave equations are developed for plants and TCPS. These equations are then implemented in MATLAB and then results are compared.
Automatic Load Scheduling According to Demand & Price

Recently, reducing electricity demand has been one of the most common objectives for all electricity suppliers, environmental organizations and others at the national and international level. Peak demands make it difficult to meet the increased demand of electricity, to lower prices, to increase quality and to avoid negative impacts on the environment. A scheme that allows consumers to moderate own demand will reduce the electricity peak demands. This project describes and delineates the scheme of averting peak demands. The main premise up on which this study is designed is to enable electricity users to effectively manage and control own demand based on information. Adequately managing and controlling energy demands shall lead to enhanced system performance. The scheme is contributing towards achieving a Smart Grid environment.

A new technique using FACTS devices linked to the improvements in semiconductor technology opens new opportunities for controlling power and enhancing the usable capacity of existing transmission lines The UNIFIED POWER FLOW CONTROLLER is devised for the real time control and dynamic compensation of transmission systems, providing multifunctional flexibility required solving many of the problems facing the power delivery industry. Within the framework of traditional power transmission concepts, the UPFC is able to control, simultaneously or selectively all the parameters affecting power flow in the transmission line and this unique capability is signified by the adjective “unified” in its name. UPFC can independently control both active and reactive power in the line.

These motors find higher rating applications in aircraft; satellite systems as well as in traction systems. Since an “electronic controller” is the most efficient part of these BLDC Motors as they can’t operate without them, thereby, in this paper the modeling of Brushless DC Motor drive system along with the speed & torque control is accomplished with the usage of semiconductor switching devices such as MOSFET & JFET and their corresponding results have been compared & analyzed. Test results are performed via MATLAB/SIMULINK and the results thus, obtained show that the model performances are satisfactory.

The simulation results are presented on IEEE-14 bus system by using MATLAB programming over a small range of power flow variation in the transmission system.
