Content-Based Video Database Retrieval Using Shape Features

Content-based means representing the image content by means of low level visual features that are extracted through image processing techniques. The low level features include colour distributions, textures, shape and motion, in the case of video. In this thesis, a novel content-based video retrieval system using shape features is proposed. To provide indices, first all the shots in a video sequence are extracted. Then corners of all frames in each video shot are detected applying proposed curvature scale space corner detector using different scale of smoothing. As a user interface, a proposed fast active contour model is used to specify one object of interest as a query in one of the frames of each video shot. Afterwards, closest corners of query object to the final snake in this frame are extracted and tracked forward and backward through the whole of that shot using proposed multiple-match tracker. This tracker, which does not make any important assumptions or use any motion models, can retrieve the query in any video sequence even when there is non-smooth and unconstrained motion. By tracking the corners of query object forward and backward, the positions of similar objects in each video frame are determined. Two methods are considered for demonstrating the query and its similar objects to the user. Experiments have been carried out on a wide range of real video databases. All the results confirm that the proposed method which exploits frame corners is more efficient and more generally applicable.

Despite much research into the target identification, there are still challenges that make target identification difficult in the borders. Because in the borders, there is more similarity between the target and the background, and usually equipment in the borders uses maximum camouflage. This paper attempts to create an intelligent target identification software for the remote control system to identify targets based on the intensity, texture, and sparse dictionary. The input image is divided into the super-pixels by using the simple linear iterative clustering algorithm. To obtain sufficient information, the standard intensity features and Gabor texture are extracted from each super-pixel in the frequency domain. To identify the targets, several background sparse dictionaries are created. The super-pixels and the fuzzy C-means clustering are used to construct the initial dictionary. By assi...

Real-time video stabilization by adaptive fuzzy filtering

In this paper, we propose a novel DVS algorithm that adaptively compensates the camera jitters utilizing an adaptive fuzzy filter on the global motion of video frames. The adaptive fuzzy filter is a simple infinite impulse response (IIR) filter which is tuned adaptively by a fuzzy system. The fuzzy system has two inputs which are used as quantitative representations of unwanted and intentional camera motion. The fuzzy system is also tuned adaptively during operation according to the characteristics of camera jitters. The global motion of video frames is estimated based on the block motion vectors which are resulted by video encoder during motion estimation operation. The proposed method also utilizes an adaptive criterion for validating of motion vectors. Experimental results have indicated a good performance for the proposed DVS algorithm.

In this paper, a method is proposed for the content-based retrieval of digital images of tiles and ceramics databases. First, a database is created by photographing different tiles and ceramics on the market from different angles and directions, including 520 images. Then a query image and the database images are divided into nine equal sub-images and all are grouped based on their sub-images. Next, the selected color and texture features are extracted from the sub-images of the database images and query image, so, each image has a feature vector. The selected features are the minimum features that are required to reduce the amount of computations and information stored, as well as speed up the retrieval. Average precision is calculated for the similarity measure. Finally, comparing the query feature vector with the feature vectors of all database images leads to retrieval. According to the retrieving results by the proposed method, its accuracy and speed are improved by 16.55% and 23.88%, respectively, compared to the most similar methods.

Numerous methods have been presented for the multiple targets tracking to capture the targets trajectory in a video sequence in order to increase intelligence and reduce human error. In this paper, a method is proposed based on combining the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to construct an intermediate tracker and track targets more accurately. The EKF solves targets collision problem, and PSO reduces the covariance of measured noise. Finally, the Joint Probabilistic Data Association (JPDA) filter is used to reduce the number of multiple hypotheses and create a one-to-one correspondence between targets and measurements. To detect targets, frames subtracting along with background modeling and canny edge detector are used. To reduce running time of the proposed method, number of video frames per second (fps) is reduced from 30 to 10 and the sampling rate is also reduced. Despi...

First, color images of bread with different qualities are photographed and a database of 1250 bread images is prepared. Then 2320 color and texture features are extracted from each bread images. Then, from this number of features, only 15 features containing sufficient information are selected. In addition, 54 appearance features are extracted from each bread image to determine its shape and size. Finally, bread images are classified using the multilevel Support Vector Machine classifier. The classification process is divided into five "one-against-all" classification problems. The proposed algorithm correctly identifies the bread appearance defects, including cuts, fractures, folds, non-uniformity, black and burnt areas in baking, deformity, color and size. The proposed algorithm, considering the extraction of only 15 features per an image, has a speed that...

The proposed RCA provides high quality compressed video with a low degree computational complexity. By controlling the quantization parameter (QP) on a picture basis, it produces VBR video bit streams. The proposed RCA has been implemented on the JM H.264/AVC video codec and the experimental results show that it provides a high level average quality for encoded video while strongly following the buffering constraint.

A wide variety of websites have been designed to provide the ability of searching different types of products. Carpet is such a product which cannot be addressed easily with a special code in markets due to the huge variety in its specifications such as layout, color, and texture. This paper introduces a content-based image retrieval system for carpet e-commerce application. This system helps development of the carpet e-commerce where an image can be used instead of any tags including codes or models. An image database containing various Persian carpet images is also made for this application. Furthermore, several content-based image retrieval methods are studied and applied on the carpet database and inspiring by the evaluation results, two methods, QCLD and DCDIP are proposed for carpet e-commerce application. Simulation results show 3.1% and 2.3% decrease on the ANMRR value for the proposed QCLD and DCDIP methods respectively. Retrieval running times also are reported 2.84 and 8.15 seconds for the QCLD and DCDIP methods. In overall, these results reflect higher retrieval performance for the proposed methods.

In the algorithm, the chaotic maps are employed to generate a key space with the length of 10 40 numbers to increase the degree of security. Additionally, the XOR operator has been replaced by the mutation process for embedding the images. This improved mutation operator has been used to encrypt the watermark logo. Additionally, the upgraded mapping method determines the location of, DWT, Discrete Wavelet Transform, coefficients where the watermark is embedded. To evaluate the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed method, the effect of several attacks has been simulated on t he hidden image. Simulation results indicate that the new algorithm can preserve the hidden information against geometric and non geometric attacks.
