Technological advances combined with changing health care challenges such as ageing populations a... more Technological advances combined with changing health care challenges such as ageing populations and the growing problem of chronic illness mean that there is growing policy support and user pressure for e-Health services. However, despite this the normalisation and integration of e-Health services into routine service delivery remains patchy. There are a few notable successes such as the use of electronic medical records in primary care and PACS systems in secondary care but for example, there are less than expected normalised telecare services for chronic disease management. This talk highlights why e-Health is so important and the pressure for real change is growing yet mainstreaming of e-Health services remains problematic and makes suggestions to facilitate future progress.
