Hence, the objective of this paper is to measure and compare Total Electron Content (TEC) for Assessment of Ionospheric Models during April 7, 2000 Geomagnetic Storms. Measured Total Electron Content (TEC) from experimental records (April 5 -9, 2000) were compared with those predicted by the improved versions of the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI-2012 and IRI-Plas2015) and the NeQuick models. The mean values of TEC in five days of the months were plotted against the hours of the same day and the root mean square error of the models which shows their deviations from the GPS data were used to observe the diurnal variations in TEC and the performances of the ionospheric models respectively. The data obtained confirmed that TEC has their highest values during the midnight period and lowest values during the sunset period at the Australian stations and we also confirmed that European stations had their highest TEC values during the daytime and their lowest values during the night time. We affirmed that the North American station in USA had its highest TEC values during the night time and lowest values during day time. The Asian station had its highest TEC values during the day time and lowest values during the midnight period. However, NeQuick, IRIPlas2015, and NeQ-IRI produced better estimate of TEC than the IRI-2001 and IRI-2001COR at all locations during the phases of the geomagnetic storm.

Assessing Annual Exposures Dose and Other Radiological Parameters from Cosmic Radiation Among Flight Crews in Nigeria Local Airline

This study uses aircrew cosmic radiation exposure to measure radiation dose received by monitoring individual crew members (a total of 179 members for all the crews in the three routes for 2011 to 2022) using computer model calculator (CARI -6M) on Nigeria's local airlines crews and evaluated other radiological parameters. The finding shows that annual effective dose (AED) received by the air crew members between 2011 and 2022 across the three routes (Lagos -Kano, Lagos -Abuja and Lagos -Port Harcourt) ranges between 0.230 and 1.90 µSv y -1 and there is a direct relationship between the time of flight and the effective dose received by the crew members. This result is lower than the recommended value of 20 µSv y -1 by International bodies. The result also revealed that Annual Gonadal Dose Equivalent (AGDE) across the three routes ranges from 7.20 -380 µSv y -1 with only Lagos -Kano route in year 2017 (380 µSv y -1 ) were above the maximum permissible value of 300 µSv y -1 . The findings indicated low AED however; the significant excess lifetime cancer risk that increases with cumulative doses and dependent of the flight route constitute a risk. This implies that, there are possibilities of the crew members developing cancer during their lifetime. It's therefore recommended that Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority should introduce regulations and training program to reduce potential sources of radiation exposure of Nigerian flight crews.

The widely used model for predicting ionospheric parameters is the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI). Aim: This study focuses on evaluating the IRI-2016 model's performance in predicting the critical frequency of the F2-layer at equatorial stations during two extreme phases of solar cycle 22. Methods: Experimental foF2 data from 1989 (Maximum Phase of Solar Activity) and 1986 (Minimum Phase of Solar Activity) at Ougadougou (Geomagnetic Latitude 0.59 o N, Geomagnetic Longitude 71.46 o E) in the African longitudinal sector and Manila (Geomagnetic Latitude 3.4 o N, Geomagnetic Longitude 191.1 o E) in the Asian longitudinal sector, along with IRI-2016 predictions, were analyzed and categorizing into four seasons and considering various diurnal periods of the day. Results: The results indicate that the IRI-2016 model exhibits both overestimation and underestimation of foF2 values at different times, with more significant discrepancies during the post-midnight hours and during the equinox and solstice seasons. However, the seasonal mean values of the IRI-2016 model show improvement, closely matching observed foF2 values at the two stations. Conclusion: The IRI-2016 model, discrepancies are more pronounced in MPSA year than MnPSA year. The URSI option excels over the CCIR option, with closer predicted values to observed values. Both options perform better in the Asian longitudinal sector compared to the African sector.

An hourly interval profile computed on seasonal basis were used to study the behaviors of TEC. In this study, we used an image neural network model to assess the relationship between economic ... more In this study, we used an image neural network model to assess the relationship between economic growth, pollution (PM 2.5 , PM 10 , and CO 2), and deaths from COVID-19 in the Hubei area (China). Data analysis, neural network analysis, and deep learning experiments were carried out to assess the relationship among COVID-19 deaths, air pollution, and economic growth in China (Hubei province, the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic). We collected daily data at a city level from January 20 to July 31, 2020. We used main cities in the Hubei province, with data on confirmed COVID-19 deaths, air pollution (expressed in µg/m 3 as PM 2.5 , PM 10 , and CO 2), and per capita economic growth. Following the most recent contributions on the relationship among air pollution, GDP, and diffusion of COVID-19, we generated an algorithm capable of identifying a neural connection among these variables. The results confirmed a strong predictive relationship for the Hubei area between changes in the economic growth, fine particles, and deaths from COVID-19. These results would recommend adequate environmental reforms to policymakers to contain the spread and adverse effects of the virus. Therefore, there is a requirement to reconsider the system of transport and return to production by combining it with economic growth to protect the planet.
