Interoperability of user models, on both syntactic and semantic level, emerges as a vital issue in order to achieve seamless personalization across different user-adaptive systems. In this paper we discuss the architecture of a Broker- based Discovery Service for User Models (BD-SUM), which allows applications to discover and invoke semantically described user models, in a multi- application context.

The main topic of this paper is the analysis of quality of the learning process model for skills ... more The main topic of this paper is the analysis of quality of the learning process model for skills of algorithmic nature. This model is realized by intelligent tutoring system (ITS) authoring tools MONAP-II. The model is evaluated from the points of adequacy (precision) and convergence (reliability). The correlation of the basic parameters of the model is reflected. It is shown in which way human-teacher can tune didactic properties of designed ITS by changing parameters of the model. MONAP-II contains subsystem of learning process modeling for more precise and valid tuning of the model as soon as didactic experiment realization. This subsystem allows human-teacher to inspect internal states of the learning process.

Issues of personalization and adaptation become crucial for the efficient handling of the information on the Internet. However, current hypertext reference architectures still lack appropriate modularization and expressiveness in order to meet all the challenges of Web dynamics. In the same time, standards and technologies resulting from the field of Semantic Web and Web Engineering offer flexible solutions, applicable also to the needs of Adaptive Hypermedia. In this paper we present our view on how the current development of knowledge engineering in the ... more In this paper we present our view on how the current development of knowledge engineering in the context of Semantic Web can contribute to the better applicability, reusability and sharability of adaptive web-based systems. We propose a service-oriented framework for adaptive web-based systems, where the main goal is to help the semantic enrichment of the information search and usage process and to allow for adaptive support of user activites. In other words, our aim is to provide flexible information access, presentation and update to a broad range of users (individual and groups) in a personalized way within the context of pursuing a user's goals and performing tasks. We take an ontological approach to enable a shared understanding of concepts throughout the system and to provide semantic relationships between the information resources and the user's knowledge of (or interest in) them. With the success of Web 2.0 we are witnessing a growing number of services and APIs exposed by Te... more With the success of Web 2.0 we are witnessing a growing number of services and APIs exposed by Telecom, IT and content providers. Targeting the Web community and, in particular, Web application developers, service providers expose capabilities of their infrastructures and applications in order to open new markets and to reach new customer groups. However, due to the complexity of the underlying technologies, the last step, i.e., the consumption and integration of the offered services, is a non-trivial and timeconsuming task that is still a prerogative of expert developers. Although many approaches to lower the entry barriers for end users exist, little success has been achieved so far. In this paper, we introduce the OMELETTE 1 project and show how it addresses end-user-oriented telco mashup development. We present the goals of the project, describe its contributions, summarize current results, and describe current and future work.

Recently, widget-based Web applications, i. e., mashups have gained momentum, as they make it pos... more Recently, widget-based Web applications, i. e., mashups have gained momentum, as they make it possible to address the "long tail" of software needs. By enabling data and control flow among widgets -interwidget communication (IWC) -integration of data and functionality can be defined by the end users themselves. However, IWC entails several problems that may reduce the overall user confidence in a system. Based on the results of user studies on the OMELETTE mashup platform, this paper analyzes the problem space and evaluates possible solutions to improve user perception of IWC. Further, a discussion of promising techniques is offered and pending challenges are identified.

The contribution of this paper is a conceptual architecture based on intelligent services for man... more The contribution of this paper is a conceptual architecture based on intelligent services for manufacturing support systems. Current approaches cannot cope with the dynamism inherent in the manufacturing domain, where unexpected and drastic changes occur at any time and affect cross-boundary systems. Our approach alleviates these issues and focuses on the need for supporting real-time automatic negotiation, planning, scheduling and optimisation, intra and across factories. We present an execution example of our approach in the aerospace industry, instantiating the conceptual architecture using different technologies. With this we push forward a new definition of Intelligent Services and indicate future work in the area.

ABSTRACT This paper proposes a semantic Web service discovery framework for finding semantic Web ... more ABSTRACT This paper proposes a semantic Web service discovery framework for finding semantic Web services by making use of natural language processing techniques. The framework allows searching through a set of semantic Web services in order to find a match with a user query consisting of keywords. By specifying the search goal using keywords, end-users do not need to have knowledge about semantic languages, which makes it easy to express the desired semantic Web services. For matching keywords with semantic Web service descriptions given in WSMO, techniques like part-of-speech tagging, lemmatization, and word sense disambiguation are used. After determining the senses of relevant words gathered from Web service descriptions and the user query, a matching process takes place. The performance evaluation shows that the three proposed matching algorithms are able to effectively perform matching and approximate matching.
