Using a sample of 3,806 company-year observations of listed non-financial companies of Pakistan during 2005-2015, the paper compares models and identifies an optimal approach in terms of forecasting accuracy for predicting financial distress and bankruptcy. The purpose is to develop a model with relatively high predictability and figure out determinants of bankruptcy. By employing financial ratios, equity market variables and macroeconomic indicators; the hybrid artificial neural network (ANN) validates superior performance as opposed to dynamic panel probit and Merton-KMV models individually. In grid modernization concepts, the optimal asset optimization across a certain planning horizon is of core importance. Modern planning problems are more inclined towards a feasible solution amongst conflicting criteria. In this paper, an integrated decision-making planning (IDMP) approach is proposed. The proposed methodology includes voltage stability assessment indices linked with loss minimization condition-based approach, and is integrated with different multi-criteria decision-making methodologies (MCDM), followed by unanimous decision making (UDM). Currency devaluation plays an important role in reshaping trade balance counties like China and M... more Currency devaluation plays an important role in reshaping trade balance counties like China and Malaysia have experienced export-led growth based on maintenance of their devalued currencies. This study provides the effect of recent currency devaluation of Pakistan on its trade with neighboring countries namely China, India, and Iran. The countries are of remarkable importance because the trade climate of the region is in transition in the essence of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The paper adopts the elasticity approach to test the effect of devaluation by examining Marshall-Lerner condition. The study uses Panel data estimation models to determine import and export elasticities which serve as inputs for Marshall-Lerner condition. The data of monthly frequency is analyzed over the period of January 2005 to May 2018. The empirical results show that Marshall-Lerner condition does not hold for Pakistan bilateral trade to China and India, however, fulfilled for Iran. It suggests that devaluation of December 2017 of PKR has improved the trade balance of Pakistan with Iran but deteriorated with India and China. The results of the study would allow us to understand the cost and benefits of regional trade integration.

Different RF-repeater configurations are assessed through numerical analysis and field measurements in WCDMA network. The target of this paper is to show the important factors regarding the repeater deployment, which have significant impact on the overall cellular network efficiency. The paper shows the impact of repeater donor antenna beam width on the repeater deployment flexibility. Moreover, the impact of repeater on the optimum BS antenna tilt angle is presented using two macrocellular topologies. Finally, the significance of repeater placement in the repeater antenna line is emphasized through field measurements using an outdoor-toindoor repeater configuration for WCDMA.

In this single-blind, randomized controlled trial, 77 volunteers were included from a residential professional college. All study subjects (control toothpaste users and test toothpowder users) plaque control measures. All study subjects were instructed to rinse with 5 ml 0.12% chlorhexidine mouthwash for 1 minute, twice and one cup of double tea bag solution three times daily for three weeks. Subjects were randomized into test (n=36) and control (n=36) groups. Toothpaste (control) and toothpowder (test) was used for two weeks to see the effects on removing stains on the labial surfaces of 12 anterior teeth. For measuring dental extrinsic stains Lobene Stain Index (SI) was used. The amount of stain following the use of toothpaste and toothpowder was more controlled with the experimental toothpowder. First Neutrino Point-Source Results from the 22 String Icecube Detector

We present new results of searches for neutrino point sources in the northern sky, using data rec... more We present new results of searches for neutrino point sources in the northern sky, using data recorded in 2007-2008 with 22 strings of the IceCube detector (approximately one-fourth of the planned total) and 275.7 days of live time. The final sample of 5114 neutrino candidate events agrees well with the expected background of atmospheric muon neutrinos and a small component of atmospheric muons. No evidence of a point source is found, with the most significant excess of events in the sky at 2.2σ after accounting for all trials. The average upper limit over the northern sky for point sources of muon-neutrinos with E −2 spectrum is E 2 Φ ν μ < 1.4 × 10 −11 TeV cm −2 s −1 , in the energy range from 3 TeV to 3 PeV, improving the previous best average upper limit by the AMANDA-II detector by a factor of 2.

Self-annihilating or decaying dark matter in the Galactic halo might produce high energy neutrino... more Self-annihilating or decaying dark matter in the Galactic halo might produce high energy neutrinos detectable with neutrino telescopes. We have conducted a search for such a signal using 276 days of data from the IceCube 22-string configuration detector acquired during 2007 and 2008. The effect of halo model choice in the extracted limit is reduced by performing a search that considers the outer halo region and not the Galactic Center. We constrain any large scale neutrino anisotropy and are able to set a limit on the dark matter self-annihilation cross section of σAv ≃ 10 −22 cm 3 s −1 for WIMP masses above 1 TeV, assuming a monochromatic neutrino line spectrum.

IceCube neutrino detector recorded 32 billion of atmospheric muons generated in air showers produ... more IceCube neutrino detector recorded 32 billion of atmospheric muons generated in air showers produced by cosmic rays in the TeV energy range. With such high statistics sample it is possible to observe, for the first time in the southern hemisphere, an energy dependence in the Galactic cosmic ray anisotropy up to a few hundred TeV. This study shows that the same large-scale anisotropy observed at median energies around 20 TeV is not present at 400 TeV; the anisotropy observed at 400 TeV shows substantial differences with respect to that at lower energy. In addition to the large-scale features observed at 20 TeV in the form of strong dipole and quadrupole moments, the data include several localized regions of excess and deficit on scales between 10 • to 30 •. The features observed at both large and small scale are statistically significant, but their origin is currently unknown.

Global command and control system (GCCS-Joint) is a command, control, communications, computers a... more Global command and control system (GCCS-Joint) is a command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) system which consists of hardware, software, procedures and standards and which provides directory services, enterprise services and security services by exchanging imagery, intelligence, status of forces and planning information. In order to secure this exchange of imagery and information, we need more secure techniques and algorithms to be implemented. During the war, the commanders and forces needs the information and images of the exact location to which they are going to target and these images can be easily taken from the satellite. But the main problem of these satellite images is its transmission over the unsecure electronic media. This paper basically introduces a technique for the encryption and decryption of satellite imagery in order to securely transmit it during the war. The methodology used here for the process of encryption and decryption is that of chaotic maps. The research work is carried out by using the Henon and logistic maps.

Determinants of food security in rural areas of Pakistan

Out of 120 districts of Pakistan (for rural areas) only 40 are food secure while 80 (67 percent) ... more Out of 120 districts of Pakistan (for rural areas) only 40 are food secure while 80 (67 percent) are food insecure. Within these food insecure districts, 38 (46 percent) are extremely food insecure. The matter of food security in rural areas is of immense nature and needs to be probed. A number of factors are responsible for the situation. The current paper examines the determinants of three aspects of food security in rural areas of Pakistan, i.e. food availability, accessibility and absorption. For the purpose a series of models is applied on district level data of rural areas of Pakistan. The production of wheat, rice, maize, pulses, oilseeds, poultry meat and fish at the district level is found to affect food availability positively. All the districts except of those in Sindh are more probable to be food insecure in availability. In the food accessibility electrification and adult literacy emerged as the factors having negative effect. Child immunization, safe drinking water and number of hospitals have shown positive effect on food absorption.
