It discusses the challenges and the benefits for the arts, and presents existing methods in the field of RRI. It then describes two practical case studies called gameformances carried out by the authors.

De informatie- en communicatietechnieken stellen ons voor nieuwe uitdagingen. De digitale technie... more De informatie- en communicatietechnieken stellen ons voor nieuwe uitdagingen. De digitale techniek beinvloedt ons in hoe we de wereld waarnemen en ervaren, in wat we passende manieren vinden om met elkaar om te gaan en in wat we ervaren als onze eigen identiteit. Omdat dit soort uitdagingen moeilijk kwantificeerbaar zijn, worden ze door politici ten onrechte afgedaan als te ‘zacht’en te onbelangrijk om zich om te bekommeren. Nu de techniek steeds verder doordringt, tot zelfs de intiemste domeinen van het leven, is het echter nodig om collectieve leerprocessen op gang te brengen, om ook voor de ‘zachte’ gevolgen van techniek een taal te ontwikkelen, waardoor ze onderwerp kunnen worden van collectieve menings- en besluitvorming.

This is because they have insufficient insight into the moral significance of technological artifacts and systems. Here, much can be learned from recent science and technology studies (STS). They have opened up the black box of technological developments and have revealed the intimate intertwinement of technology and society in minute detail. However, while applied ethics is characterized by a certain “technology blindness, ” the most influential approaches within STS show a “normative deficit ” and display an agnostic or even antagonistic attitude toward ethics. To repair the blind spots of both applied ethics and STS, the authors sketch the contours of a pragmatist approach.
