Key Economic Sectors and Their Transitions: Analysis of World Input-Output Network

In this type of network, a small shock occurred at certain point can be spread instantly through the whole network and may cause catastrophe. Production systems, traditionally analyzed as almost independent national systems, are increasingly connected on a global scale. The world input-output database, only recently becoming available, is one of the first efforts to construct the global and multi-regional input-output tables. The usual way of identifying key sectors in an economy in Input-output analysis is using Leontief inverse matrix to measure the backward linkages and the forward linkages of each sector. In other words, evaluating the role of sectors is performed by means of their centrality assessment. Network analysis of the input-output tables can give valuable insights into identifying the key industries in a world-wide economy. The world input-output ta...

In this research, we used the smooth reaction path generation (SRPG) method to calculate binding free energies and determine potential of mean forces (PMFs) along the smoothed dissociation paths of influenza A neuraminidase and its variants with oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza) inhibitors. With the gained results, we found that the binding free energies of neuraminidase A/H5N1 in WT and two mutants (including H274Y and N294S) with oseltamivir and zanamivir show good agreement with experimental results. Additionally, the thermodynamic origin of the drug resistance of the mutants was also discussed from the PMF profiles.

The PCXSS method is a progressive clustering method that computes the similarity between a new XML document and existing clusters by considering the structures within documents. We conducted the clustering task on the INEX and Wikipedia data sets.
Transient thermal tuning properties of single emitters in actively cooled high-power cm-bar arrays
SPIE Proceedings, 2004
Transient thermal properties of actively cooled InAlGaAs-based high-power diode laser arrays, so-... more Transient thermal properties of actively cooled InAlGaAs-based high-power diode laser arrays, so-called 'cm-bars', are investigated for 'low-frequency' pulsed operation with a repetition rate of 0.1-10 Hz. Under these operation conditions the devices experience almost complete thermal cycles between the temperature of the heat sink and the operation temperature typical for continuous wave operation. We analyze the thermal tuning behavior that

Various vector quantizers are designed and their performance evaluated during the last few years. The hardware realizations of VQ encoder systems have been designed mainly for real-time speech coding ranging from the use of "off-the-shelf" components to applying VLSI technology. Real-time image coding requires much higher throughput rate compared to speech data. In this paper, a practical high throughput architecture and its implementation for real-time coding of TV quality signals is presented. The architecture is directed towards the implementation of multi-stage VQ as our simulation results (presented in this paper) show that it is more suitable for real-time coding. However, the implementation is suitable for both single-stage and multi-stage VQ. The functional blocks of the VQ encoder system have been designed and implemented in VLSI technology. The VQ encoding scheme designed has an encoding delay of 25 clock cycles and it is independent of the codebook sue.
A High Quality Image Compression Scheme for Real-Time Applications

Among these, Vector Quantization (VQ) seems to have the edge; its theoretical distortion is lower than that of other block coding techniques at comparable bit rates. However, the application of Vector Quantization remains limited due to its high

It uses the concept of structured media that allows to deeper access into media objects. An experiment of structuring video in our authoring and presentation environment for multimedia documents is described. It allows the author to interactively specify various audiovisual structures. A video description and structuration model is used for the composition of video elements (character, shot, scene, etc.) with other media objects (text, sound, image, etc). Such a composition allows to easily realize attractive multimedia presentations where media stuffs can be synchronized in rich and various ways (spatio-temporal synchronization, temporal links, etc.).
Fuzzy entropy semi-supervised support vector data description
The 2013 International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN), 2013
ABSTRACT Support Vector Data Description (SVDD) is known as one of the best kernel-based methods ... more ABSTRACT Support Vector Data Description (SVDD) is known as one of the best kernel-based methods for one-class classification problems. SVDD requires fully labelled data sets. However, in reality, an abundant amount of data can be easily collected, while the labelling process is often expensive, time-consuming, and error-prone. Therefore, partially labelled data sets are popular and easy to obtain. In this paper, we propose a semi-supervised learning method, Fuzzy Entropy Semi-supervised SVDD (FS3VDD), to extend SVDD to cope with partially labelled data sets. The learning model employs fuzzy membership and fuzzy entropy to help the labelling of the unlabeled data.

Mixed Epithelial and Stromal Tumor of the Kidney With Elevated Serum Level of Cancer Antigen 125

We report a rare case of a 45-year-old woman with a palpable abdominal mass and elevated serum level of serum cancer antigen 125, who was not receiving hormones or contraceptive agents. Abdominal magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large multilocular cystic tumor that arose in the left central kidney. Nephrectomy was performed under the initial impression of cystic renal cell carcinoma; however, a diagnosis of mixed epithelial and stromal tumor was confirmed according to pathological and immunohistochemical findings. Serum level of cancer antigen 125 returned to normal after 1 month postoperatively and no recurrence was found in the following 18 months.

NGF mRNA is expressed by GABAergic but not cholinergic neurons in rat basal forebrain

In the present study, colormetric and isotopic in situ hybridization techniques were combined to identify the neurotransmitter phenotype of the NGF-producing cells in these two areas. Adult rat forebrain tissue was processed for the colocalization of mRNA for NGF with mRNA for either choline acetyltransferase, a cholinergic cell marker, or glutamic acid decarboxylase, a GABAergic cell marker. In both regions, many neurons were single-labeled for choline acetyltransferase mRNA, but cells containing both choline acetyltransferase and NGF mRNA were not detected. In these fields, virtually all NGF mRNA-positive neurons contained glutamic acid decarboxylase mRNA. The double-labeled cells comprised a subpopulation of GABAergic neurons; numerous cells labeled with glutamic acid decarboxylase cRNA alone were codistributed with the double-labeled neurons. These data demonstrate that in basal forebrain GABAergic neurons are the principal source of locally produced NGF.

Studies of the trophic activities of brain‐derived neurotrophic factor and neurotrophin‐3 indicat... more Studies of the trophic activities of brain‐derived neurotrophic factor and neurotrophin‐3 indicate that both molecules support the survival of a number of different embryonic cell types in culture. We have shown that mRNAs for brain‐derived neurotrophic factor and neurotrophin‐3 are localized to specific ventral mesencephalic regions containing dopaminergic cell bodies, including the substantia nigra and ventral tegmental area. In the present study, in situ hybridization with 35S‐labeled cRNA probes for the neurotrophin mRNAs was combined with neurotoxin lesions or with immunocytochemistry for the catecholamine‐synthesizing enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase to determine whether the dopaminergic neurons, themselves, synthesize the neurotrophins in adult rat midbrain. Following unilateral destruction of the midbrain dopamine cells with 6‐hydroxydopamine, a substantial, but incomplete, depletion of brain‐derived neurotrophic factor and neurotrophin‐3 mRNA‐containing cells was observed in the...
