It is vitally important to provide comprehensive care to these patients and prescribe physical exercise programs as adjuvant therapy. The objective of this systematic review was to determine the impact of physical exercise on advanced‐stage cancer patients. A literature search was performed in eight different databases. This search focused on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published during the last 10 years. To assess the methodological quality of the sample of 15 RCTs finally obtained, the PEDro scale was used. Aerobic and strength training methods were used. The combination of both aerobic and strength training methods was the most frequently reported. Likewise, different physical and psychological variables were recorded, from which improvements were seen in fatigue, independence, quality of life and sleep, among others. The participation in phy...

They were also crucial in the definition of sport policies with actions focused on the promotion of healthy lifestyles through physical activity and sport practice for all sectors of society. Nevertheless, in the municipalities of Mozambique, the intervention in sport is a relatively new activity. Research in these fields is very rare, so it is urgent to proceed with disaggregated studies on sport reality in municipalities of Mozambique. The aim of this study was to design and validate a specific tool for characterization of municipal sports services. For this purpose, an ad hoc instrument based on a previous literature review was designed and submitted to validation process by academic experts. After the instrument obtained a positive evaluation, a pilot study was conducted. Forty-one items, divided into= nine dimensions, compose the final version. The instrum...

For that purpose, an interview was designed for each of the key agents to analyse aspects related to the economic situation of the sports centres, their experience, satisfaction and dropout management strategies. A total of 111 interviews were conducted in 37 sports centres (37 managers, 37 employees and 37 customers). The results show the necessity of implementing management strategies oriented towards clients to prevent their dropout. Strategies to build customers’ loyalty focused on providing individual services and creating emotional links are essential to prevent high rates of customer dropouts, which will result in a competitive advantage. We conducted an analysis of the post-behaviour of former customers of premium, medium, and low-cost centers of which 7863 responses were obtained. Highlights that a year lifecycle of customers in their sports centers, only 32% still active. Similarly, and in light of the reasons for dropping out provided by the customers, the three main actions carried out, once processed to leave the center were: join another sports center by 37%, not to practice physical activity in a 22% and go running on my own 19%. Sports centers have to start to enhance the experiences that their customers live in their centers, and implement loyalty strategies based on these, to improve their rates of churn.

A secondary objective was to determine the reasons for continuing to attend a sport centre and how they influenced satisfaction towards achievement. Finally, the authors aimed to identify differences between reasons for enroling and reasons for continuing at a sport centre. Design/methodology/approach A specially developed 16-item questionnaire was sent to 125,000 clients and 21,043 responses were obtained. Findings Clients who found out about the centre through a recommendation or the internet were 25 per cent more likely to be satisfied with it than those who knew of the centre due to proximity. Similarly, clients who had a specific motive to continue using the centre, for example, to prepare for a sports competition were twice as likely to be satisfied with their membership as any other group...

Sixteen sub-elite female soccer players were divided into four groups of four players each. Three small-sided games (SSGs; pitch size: 400 m, 600 m and 800 m) were played on three surfaces (dirt [DT], artificial turf [AT] and natural grass [NG]). Players' heart rate (HR) was monitored during each game. Before and after each SSG, participants performed two counter-movement jumps (CMJs) and answered a questionnaire based on visual analogue scales (VASs) to indicate their perception of the effort required on each surface. DT obtained lower outputs for most variables. In the SSG 600 mean HR was higher on NG than AT (+3.31 %HR; = 0.029), but players' overall satisfaction with both surfaces was similar (>0.05). The SSG 400 received the lowest ratings for most variables...

Methods: the participants of this study were 15 female amateur rugby players (23.4 ± 4.42 years). RSA Test consisted of six -sprints of 40 m (20 + 20 m) and was performed in two different surfaces (natural grass and sand). Before and immediately after completing the RSA, the contractile capacity of the biceps femoris and the rectus femoris of both legs was evaluated through Tensiomyography (TMG). Results: players also did 2 CMJ jumps before and after the RSA to assess the muscle fatigue. CMJ jump high decreased (-2.89 cm; ES= 0.67; IC: to -4.59 to -1.18) after having performed the RSA Test on sand versus natural grass. Rectus femoris prese nted higher values of Tc (11.66 ms; ES= 1.00; IC: 4.03 to 9.29; p≤0.01) and Dm (1.20 mm; ES= 0.80; IC: 0.21 to 2.61; p<0.05) on sand than on natural grass after finishing the RSA while the biceps femoris do not display any differences regarding surfaces. Conclusion: therefore, muscular response on rectus femoris after repetitive -sprint-actions differ between different surfaces (sand and natural grass).

A prediction model of retention in a Spanish fitness centre
Managing Sport and Leisure, 2016

This study aimed to create a model for predicting dropouts at a sport centre based solely on actual customer behaviour. Monthly data corresponding to the actual behaviour of 1977 members at a sport centre in Spain were recorded over the course of one year; these data represented the historical behaviour of the participants. The variables selected to develop the model have been used by other authors to study behavioural loyalty, although in this study users were not surveyed. A dropout prediction model was created by means of logistic regression based on real and common records in the management of users at sports centres. The predictive model was formed by: age of the subjects, number of attendances to the sport centre and their duration, their link to the centre (length of membership and ex-members) and economic aspects. The model’s goodness of fit was considerably high showing more than 70% of effectiveness. These results suggest that the recording of historical behaviour from sport centres costumers can be a useful tool to predict the chance of dropping out.
