The primary aim was to investigate the impact of the three-dimensional (3D) characterization on c... more The primary aim was to investigate the impact of the three-dimensional (3D) characterization on clinical and therapeutic decisions for mandibular second molar (M2M) impaction. The secondary aim was to introduce a validated 3D classi cation system incorporating both surgical and orthodontic parameters. Bidimensional (2D) and 3D radiological records of 15 impacted M2M were collected and deidenti ed. Ten experienced clinicians(5 oral surgeons;5 orthodontists) categorized each case, rst based on 2D records and then with 3D scans. The primary outcome variable was the assessment of differences in diagnosis and decision-making protocol using 2D or 3D records (clinical relevance:from 0 to 5). The secondary outcome variable was the validation analysis of the proposed 3D classi cation to determine the concordance among clinicians. Descriptive statistics and multivariable inferential analysis based on Akaike information criterion (AIC) were performed(α = 0.05). 3D examination allowed a better visualization of M2M impaction with higher clinical relevance for diagnosis of M2M root relationship to alveolar nerve and lingual plate, its depth and inclination(range:2.69-3.43). The proposed 3D classi cation of M2M impaction changed clinical decisions regarding surgical-orthodontic approach, biomechanics, patient education, and treatment time estimate(range:2.59-3.33). In the validation analysis of the classi cation, no evidence of inter-or intragroup (surgeon/orthodontist) bias in score attribution occurred(null model:AIC = 718.04). 3D evaluation of impacted M2Ms could enhance diagnostic accuracy, and a classi cation system was proposed and validated by a group of experienced surgeons and orthodontists with high concordance.

Pre-surgical computed tomography (CT) scans allowed to develop the ideal virtual planning for each patient. Direct metal laser-sintering was used to create the surgical guides for the implant placement. Post-operative CT scans were taken 6 months after surgery to assess any differences between the planned and placed zygomatic implants. Qualitative and quantitative three-dimensional analyses were performed with the software Slicer3D, recording linear and angular displacements after the surface registration of the planned and placed models of each implant. A total of 59 zygomatic implants were analyzed. Pierre Robin syndrome (PRS) is characterized of a triad of clinical signs: micrognathia, glossopt... more Pierre Robin syndrome (PRS) is characterized of a triad of clinical signs: micrognathia, glossoptosis and obstruction of the upper airways frequently associated with palatal cleft. It is a heterogenic pathological entity and it can be found as isolated disease (nsPRS) or in association with other syndromes (sPRS), with more pronounced symptoms and systemic involvement. This review aims to summarize the principal features of PRS, analysing the different aspects of the disease. Epidemiological data highlight incidence, severity and mortality of PRS; pathophysiological mechanism reports the etiology and pathogenesis of the disease distinguishing between isolated and syndromic form. Because of the clinical importance of PRS, it's fundamental to describe the features of the Robin sequence to clearly define its primary and secondary clinical signs useful to diagnosis. A complete evaluation of the syndrome allows choosing the most appropriate therapeutic treatment, opting for conservative or surgical management, in order to improve the quality of life of the patient.

Twenty-two patients requiring the extraction of three non-adjacent teeth were included. Each tooth was randomly assigned to a specific treatment (control, MM, or piezosurgery). A retrospective single-center study was performed. Patients with a histologically confirmed diagnosis of oral NHL were included. Demographic data and clinical parameters were digitally recorded, focusing on the NHL-specific localization and symptomatology. The study sample was evaluated by analyzing descriptive statistics with absolute and relative frequencies. A total of 26 patients with intraoral NHL were identified with a progressive increase in NHL occurrence during the observation period. Objective: Condylar resorption (CR) is one of the major post-surgical complications of orthognath... more Objective: Condylar resorption (CR) is one of the major post-surgical complications of orthognathic surgery. This systematic review (SR) aimed to evaluate epidemiological data, risk factors, and therapeutical management of CR. Methods: Six databases were screened by two investigators until September 2020 to obtain all SRs. After reading the titles and abstracts, eligible SRs were determined and data extraction was performed. Using the latest version of A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews, the methodological quality of the included SRs was determined. Results: Ten SRs with low or criticallylow methodological quality were included in this review. Mandibular hypoplasia on the sagittal plane and hyperdivergent growth pattern on the vertical plane were the most common skeletal alterations in which CR could occur after orthognathic surgery. Post-operative condylar changes were analyzed both on two-dimensional and three-dimensional (3D) radiographic examinations. The incidence of CR was not related to the fixation method. Based on the severity of the pathological conditions, management of CR can include conservative or surgical therapy. Conclusions: Despite the limited evidence in literature, CR is considered a consequence of orthognathic surgery. However, an accurate diagnosis of CR and a better orthognathic surgical planning must include 3D radiographic examinations to improve pre-and post-surgical comparison. Of 252 articles, 14 were included in the review (3 for teeth extraction, and 11 for implant dentistry). Out of a total of 619 dental extractions (256 patients) performed with the magnetic mallet (MM), no complications were reported.
