Participants of the study consisted of 15 male subjects between the ages of 25 and 70. Fifteen one on one interviews were conducted. Conversations were tape recorded and then transcribed. Transcriptions were examined through discourse analysis. Interpretative repertoires ‘I never thought about it’, ‘being a man is something variable’ and ‘being a man were identified’. These were grouped under a main interpretative repertoire: ‘being a man can not be explained’. According to this repertoire finding a ground for constructing the meaning of ‘being a man’ is a problem for men. The common reproduction of constructing the meaning of ‘being a man’ is varied by social status and marking the other.
