Its leaves is used as herbal plant. Torbangun propagation is done vegetatively by cutting. The purpose of this research was to determine the best combination of cutting method and auxin concentration, in order to achieve vigorous seedlings. This research was conducted at Biofarmaka, IPB, from January until March 2014. It consisted of 2 experiments arranged in Completely Randomized Block Design. First experiment consisted of 3 kinds of cuttings and 3 kinds of auxin concentrations as treatments. Second experiment was continuation of the first experiment. Second experiment consisted of 3 kinds of bud cutting length and 3 kinds of auxin concentrations as treatments. The result of this research showed that the best cutting treatments was cutting of 7.0 cm in length. All concentrations of auxin did not affect to cutting's variables.

Merr) is a featured fruit commodity with the fourth largest production and second export in Indonesia. Jalan Cagak District is one of the centers of pineapple production but has decreased production by 38% from 2017 to 2018. The decline in production is allegedly due to low adoption of pineapple cultivation and the use of low quality seeds. One of the efforts to increase pineapple production through education activities on Production Operational Standard with the concept of Good Agriculture Practice and making a pineapple nursery demonstration plot using leaf cuttings as a pilot project for farmers. Education is provided in the form of outreach, technical guidance and socialization. The activity was conducted for pineapple farmers in Curugrendeng Village who were participants of the activity. Pineapple nursery demonstration plots using leaf cuttings planted on 12,5 m2 of land with a population of 1.961 planted cuttings.

The objective of the research was to determine the desiccation and storage temperature effectiven... more The objective of the research was to determine the desiccation and storage temperature effectiveness in the three genotypes of papaya seed. The genotypes were IPB-1, IPB-6C and IPB-9 to represents different types of papaya fruits. The research was conducted at The PKBT's Laboratory and Plant Breeding laboratory, from April until December 2008. This research used two ways factorial split plot designed, with three different experiments based on the genotype in three times replicates. The first factor was the storage period of 0, 1, 2, and 3 months and second factors were two temperature storage condition, which were room temperature and sub-zero temperature (±-20ºC). The results showed that first experiment with IPB-6C seed's, the temperature treatment induced secondary dormancy in level of 9,44% moisture content, at room temperature treatment the dormancy was removed at 2 month of storage and at subzero temperature treatment at 3 month of storage, the seeds showed more likely orthodox behavior. The second experiment with IPB-1 seed's, the germinability was reduced in two temperature conditions, in exposure subzero temperature the germination decreased more rapidly, when the initial moisture content of the seed was 8,41%, the seeds showed intermediate behavior. The third experiment with IPB-9 seeds, in subzero temperature treatment showed the germinability was not reduced until the end of period, when the initial moisture content of the seed was 7,9%. The seeds showed orthodox behavior.

This study aimed at comparing effective accelerated aging method between physical and chemical, and studying the seed deterioration during storage in ambient (T =28-30 0 C, RH=75-78%) and AC (T =18-20 0 C, RH =51-60%) condition with three levels of initial moisture content (8-10%, 10-12%, and 12-14%) for 20 weeks. The final objective of this research was to develop model for storability vigor of papaya seed. Two experiments, accelerated aging and seed storage were conducted at Seed Laboratory, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Bogor Agricultural University from October 2015 to May 2016. A completely randomized design with nested factors and four replications was applied to both experiments. The results showed that physical accelerated aging using IPB 77-1 MMM machine was more effective than chemical accelerated aging using IPB 77-1 MM machine for papaya seed. The viability of seed stored in AC condition remained high until the end of the storage period, whereas it declined at 16 week storage period in the ambient condition. The viability of seed with initial moisture content of 12-14% declined faster than that of initial moisture content of 8-10% after 18 week storage periode. The model used to estimate the storability vigor of papaya seed accurately was the equation y = a + b exp cx where y : storability vigor estimation, x : aging time and a,b,c : constant value. Simulation of storability vigor estimation with constant value of a, b, c and input of aging time can estimate storability seed vigor in actual storage.

Accelerated Aging Machine "IPB 77-1 MM" could be used for soybean seed screening based on the see... more Accelerated Aging Machine "IPB 77-1 MM" could be used for soybean seed screening based on the seed storability vigor. The aim of the research was to identify simple, fast and accurate accelerated aging method using accelerated aging machine IPB 77-1 MM. Two methods of accelerated aging test (physical and chemical treatment) were applied to seeds of Anjasmoro soybean variety. The best accelerated aging method was then used to screen seed storability vigor of 23 soybean varieties. Seed storability vigor of 23 soybean varieties were detected using accelerated aging machine IPB 77-1 MM and each was compared with the seed storability vigor of those stored 10 weeks in controlled storage. Results of the experiment showed that using chemical or physical treatment on accelerated aging process were able to decrease seed vigor, but chemical treatment decreased seed vigor faster, more simple and more practical. Accelerated aging machine IPB 77-1 MM could also be used for screening varietal seed storability vigor of soybean using electrical conductivity test.

Perlakuan benih menggunakan gelombang mikro dapat menjadi alternatif pengendalian patogen terbawa... more Perlakuan benih menggunakan gelombang mikro dapat menjadi alternatif pengendalian patogen terbawa benih yang efektif dan efisien. Tujuan penelitian ialah mengendalikan Colletotrichum spp. terbawa benih cabai dengan paparan gelombang mikro namun masih dapat mempertahankan mutu fisiologi benih. Percobaan disusun menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan faktor yang diuji kadar air benih (4.31%, 6.33%, dan 8.25%) dan lama paparan gelombang mikro (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 detik), berturut-turut untuk percobaan pertama dan kedua. Kadar air terbaik pada percobaan pertama digunakan untuk menentukan lama paparan gelombang mikro pada percobaan kedua. Perlakuan fungisida sistemik berbahan aktif benomil 0.5 g L-1 merupakan perlakuan pembanding. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Colletotrichum spp. yang ditemukan pada benih cabai terdiri atas 4 spesies, yaitu Colletotrichum acutatum, C. capsici, C. gloeosporioides, dan Colletotrichum sp. Cendawan C. acutatum merupakan spesies yang paling banyak menginfeksi benih cabai dibandingkan dengan spesies lainnya. Gelombang mikro dapat mengendalikan C. acutatum dengan tingkat efikasi sebesar 64.3% serta dapat mempertahankan viabilitas benih cabai pada kadar air rendah (4.31%) dan lama paparan gelombang mikro 40 detik.

It has been shown that chlorophyll content of seeds was negatively correlated with germinability ... more It has been shown that chlorophyll content of seeds was negatively correlated with germinability towards the end of maturation. Physiological maturity was achieved when the chlorophyll fluorescence reached a minimum. The presence of chlorophyll in seeds and its relation with the progress of seed maturation has gained renewed interest after the development of Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF). This equipment is able to measure and analyze chlorophyll fluorescence in the seed instantaneously and non-destructively. The use of LIF makes it possible to perform physiological and biochemical assays after chlorophyll fluorescence measurement in the same seeds. Based on the results from some experiments as well as the literature, the role of chlorophyll in developing seeds is presented. The overall conclusion is that chlorophyll is required during seed development, but undesirable during maturation. We hypothesize that the presence of chlorophyll during seed maturation is undesirable since it is associated with lower quality, particularly lower seed longevity. Chlorophyll may also be a primary source of free radicals. Seed chlorophyll fluorescence was affected by endogenous abscisic acid, gibberellins and phytochrome. Light, temperature and relative humidity may also influence the chlorophyll fluorescence of seeds.

Accelerated aging method is a seed vigor testing after obtaining physical or chemical treatment t... more Accelerated aging method is a seed vigor testing after obtaining physical or chemical treatment that can provide simulated suboptimal environments that can mimicked the natural deterioration. This research using 96% ethanol vapor on seed (Zea mays L.) a accelerated aging machine IPB 77-1 MM to accelerate the deterioration of the seed. Utilization of these machines are intended to be seen accelerated aging of seeds and represent the natural deterioration of storage by controlled storage methods. This research used five lots of seed that classified by the vigor level from controlled deterioration by using 40 °C temperature and 98% relative humidity. The result of vigor classification from high to low is: P1 (94.5% normal seedly), P2 (92.5% normal seedly), P3 (70% normal seedly), P4 (38% normal seedly), and P5 (17% normal seedly). The research consisted of two experiments, the first experiment is chemical accelerated aging that consist of five periods namely 0, 25 (1x25'), 50 (2x25'), 75 (3x25'), dan 100 (4x25') minutes. The second experiment is controlled storage in room temperature (30-34 °C) and high relative humidity condition (85-99%) by using saturated salt solution of Na2SO4. The storage is consist of five periods namely 0, 10, 20, 25, dan 30 days. This research aims to obtain the procedures for using APC IPB 77-1 MM in estimating the vigor related of corn seed by use chemical accelerated aging method. The result of the experiment showed that APC IPB 77-1 MM can be used to estimate the decrease in vigor of corn seeds. The result of the experiment also showed that APC IPB 77-1 MM can estimate vigor storability between natural storage with accelerated aging using ethanol vapor to all the seed lots on Seeds Germination and Maximum Growth Potential, meanwhile for the Vigor Index and Speed Growth is not sensitive to show consistency of the vigor decrease.

Rapid Multiplication Technique (RMT) is a technique used to produce large scale cuttings of sweet... more Rapid Multiplication Technique (RMT) is a technique used to produce large scale cuttings of sweet potato in a short period by using mini cuttings and proper fertilizer management. The research was carried out from October 2019 to March 2020 and composed of two experiments The first experiment involved a randomized complete block design, with clones ("Ase Kapas" and "Ase Merah") as the first factor, and tuber weight (150 ± 25 g, 250 ± 25 g, and 350 ± 25 g) as the second factor. The second experiment was arranged in a split-plot design involving different doses of NPK compound fertilizer (as main plot) and different source of cuttings (as subplots). The different doses included NPK 16:16:16 at 100 kg.ha-1 (0.3 g per polybag), 200 kg.ha-1 (0.6 g per polybag), 300 kg.ha-1 (0.9 g per polybag), and without fertilizer as control. The source of cuttings were from the tip, middle and bottom stem of the plants. Results showed that the "Ase Kapas" showed the highest number and the longest shoots, number of nodes, and length of vines. Additionally, tuber weight of ± 350 g produced the highest number of shoots. When it comes to NPK compound fertilizer treatment, a dose of 0.9 g per polybag increased cutting production in "Ase Kapas", and also responded better to fertilizer treatment. On the other hand, dose of 0.3 g increased cutting production in "Ase Merah". "Ase Kapas" produced more cuttings from the middle stem, whereas "Ase Merah" produced more cuttings from the tip. The application of RMT in "Ase Kapas" produced cuttings with ratio of 1:31, which is higher than those in "Ase Merah" with a ratio of 1:17.
