After the digital revolution, non-conventional energy sources, many state-of-art equipment, power electronics loads, reactive power compensating devices, sophisticated measuring devices, etc., entered the power industry. The reactive power compensating devices, connected electrical equipment, renewable energy sources can be anticipated/unanticipated action can cause considerable reactions may be failure issues to power grids. To deal with these challenges, the power sector crucially needs to design and implement new security systems to protect its systems. The Internet-of-Things (IoT) is treated as revolution technology after the invention of the digital machine and the internet. New developments in sensor devices with wireless technologies through embedded processors provide effective monitoring and different types of faults can be detected during electric power transmission. The wavelet (WT) is one of the mathematical tools to asses transient signals of different frequencies and provides crucial information in the form of detailed coefficients. Machine learning (ML) methods are recommended in the power systems community to simplify digital reform. ML and AI techniques can make effective and rapid decisions to improve the stability and safety of the power grid. This recommended approach can contribute critical information about symmetrical or asymmetrical faults through machine learning assessment of IoT supervised microgrid protection in the presence of SVC using the wavelet approach covers diversified types of faults combined with fault-inception-angles (FIA).

Power generation from solar resources is definitely a boon, but it is liable to its availability and variation due to changing factors such as irradiation, temperature, shading conditions, etc. The economic feasibility of this system is also dependent on its operating conditions. Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) has been used in different ways to lessen the effect of atmospheric changes. Partial shading conditions (PSC) are one of the major causes of the MPP change in photovoltaic systems. There are utmost algorithms suggested to track the global peak, but due to certain factors, they are unable to track it successfully under PSCs. This conventional MPPT control technique has some crucial routine drawbacks, such as high tracking, settling times and oscillations at glob...

In this article, graphene based light emitting diode generates the wavelength of 1550 nm, where PIN photodiode converts the optical signal (wavelength 1550 nm) to its electrical counterpart. The proposed wave guide (11×11 silicon rods) with L shape defect allows the signal from source to detector. The principle of mechanism relies on the propagation of field along with the defect path which is made through finite difference time domain method. Moreover, there is no loss associated with the structure during the transformation of signals. The computational result infers that the efficiency of LED is about 99.98 % where the efficiency of photodiode is 99.94 %. Finally, the suggested silicon based waveguide acts as a good candidate for the realisation of an efficient optical int...

Control and Protection of Hybrid Smart-grid Power System: A Review

S... more With the emergence of distributed generation the idea of smart microgrid is gaining popularity. Smart microgrid control and protection techniques are an emerging field of research. DC smart microgrids have shown prevalence over AC smart microgrids with respect to quality, productivity, control, sustainable energy sources, and association of DC loads. A huge volume of articles have been reviewed on the control strategies of the microgrids. The control of smart microgrids contains three categories, which are primary, auxiliary, and tertiary control layers. Design and protection for DC microgrids are vast challenges. In this paper, the protections of DC microgrids are investigated from a number of elements including DC fault current, grounding systems, methods of fault detection, and self-protective devices. The DC microgrid has emerged as a normal distribution network due to its brilliant performance. This paper reviewed and listed protection and control strategies, which help researchers to have awareness on DC microgrid safety and control.

Optimized DHT-RBF model as replacement of ARMA-RBF model for wind power forecasting

In the current work we introduced Discrete Hilbert Transform (DHT)-Neural Model which provides better result than the ARMA-Neural Model. We know that a signal and its' DHT produces the same Energy Spectrum. Based on this concept in this paper DHT is used for Wind Speed forecasting purpose. Thereafter the RBF neural network is used on this to forecast wind power. Taking the data of measured wind speed from Weather Forecasting Bureau Report as example, we validate the method described above.

One of the clear ideas is that electric vehicle function as a distributed energy source and provide additional services to the electricity grid. In the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) model, collection of EV is used for the delivery of energy services, including supplementary services to the grid. Contribution in the V2G outline may involve supplementary charge and discharge of the EV batteries. Vehicle to grid can provide the distributed stored power in terms of rotatory reserve power to the utility grid. V2G power has the potential to revive the frequency deviance observed at the charging terminal and the required battery SOC (State-of-Charge). In case of grouping an enormous number of electric vehicles at a distribution utility grid bus, operation in V2G mode may be used for grid support during faulty situations. In this paper, the proposed vehicle control procedure scheme is executed to an electric vehicle and battery charging system. The results describe the proposed smart battery energy management prediction service considerably reduces the actual number of communications of electric vehicles with charging units and grid as well as forecasting the load demand. Simulation results show that the suggested method significantly performed the rule-based method.

Power quality improvement in a photovoltaic based microgrid integrated network using multilevel inverter
International Journal of Emerging Electric Power Systems, 2021

Therefore, for the improvement of PQ, it is required to reduce the total harmonics distortion (THD) in the utility network. In this work, the improvement of PQ is discussed in a photovoltaic (PV) based MG integrated three-phase system using a three-level H-bridge (3LHB) multilevel inverter (MI). The MI is used for compensating the source current harmonics and reducing the THD by meeting the IEEE standard guidelines. Besides, the proposed model helps manage the reactive power with control of DC link bus voltage through the PV system. The proposed model is helpful not only in reducing the harmonics but also in providing additional active power to the load if any electrical disturbances occur on the grid side. The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique employed in PV is of an improved fo...

FPA is based on the pollination process of flowering plants, which transfer pollens by using different pollinators. On the contrary, BA depends on echolocation and frequency tuning to solve different types of optimisation problems in engineering. To accomplish the path-planning task of mobile robot autonomously, a fitness function has been introduced considering the distance between robot-obstacle and robot-goal to satisfy the conditions of obstacle avoidance and goal reaching behaviour of robot. Based on the values of objective function of the algorithms, mobile robot avoids obstacles in the unknown environment and moves towards the goal. In this work, the efficiency of such controllers is verified using some simulations in MATLAB environment. Further, an experimental work is carried out in real-world environment using ARDUINO Mega 2560 microcontroller to ascertain the path length, travelling time and convergence speed of the two algorithms.

In the proposed WNN, different types of activation functions such as Mexican Hat, Gaussian and Morlet wavelet functions are used in the hidden nodes. The neural networks are trained by an intelligent supervised learning technique so that the robot makes a collision-free path in the unknown environment during navigation from different starting points to targets/goals. The efficiency of two algorithms is compared using some MATLAB simulations and experimental setup with Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller in terms of path length and time taken to reach the target as an indicator for the accuracy of the network models.
