Attributable to tough pollution standards, most of the engineers have been investigating for better engine structures with least air pollution emanations. Soot and NOx emissions are the most important design considerations for the diesel-fueled CI engine. The performance of combustion engine is increased by proper mixing of air and fuel content. There are numerous approaches to progress the air-fuel mixing within a chamber cylinder and the prominent approach is change of piston bowl geometry. A few engineers have effort on various kinds of piston bowl geometry as well as combustion chamber. The complicated interactions generated between squish flows and swirls and induces late cycle mixing of spray-wall interactions, these are complicated interactions generated in combustion chamber geometry of low utilized diesel engines such as direct injection (DI) engines. As a result of these interactions, the fuel efficiency affected, and behavior of emission also affected in piston bowl geometry, respectively. Anyhow, imperfect measurements of cylinders cause effects to the depended mechanisms and the corresponding problems are not analyzed perfectly with respect to the pistons and engines. In this study, we reviewed emissions in direct injections engine at various piston bowl geometry's via CFD. Further, we suggested the future enhancements to improve the performance of direct injections engine.

There are several methods to enhance the variety of air-fuel within the cylinder. Altering the geometry of piston bowl is one of the methods to improve the air-fuel mixture. This article proposes the effect of piston bowl geometry on the direct injection diesel engine performance and emissions, where various profiles of piston bowl referred as hemispherical combustion chamber (HCC), toroidal combustion chamber (TCC) and shallow depth combustion chamber (SCC) are designed using computer aided design and drafting (CADD) tool and ANSYS workbench is adopted for analysis. In addition, Karanja oil mixed with base fluid diesel at different volume fractions like0.2%, 0.3% and 0.4% and are calculated for their combination properties. Further, theoretical calculations are considered to determine th...
