This study seeks to develop a comprehensive model of consumer acceptance in the context of Smart ... more This study seeks to develop a comprehensive model of consumer acceptance in the context of Smart Mobile Device (SMDs). This paper proposes an adaptation of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) model that can be employed to explain and predict the acceptance of SMDs. Also included in the model are a number of external and new moderating variables that can be used to explain user intentions and subsequent usage behaviour. The model holds that Activity-based Usage and Device Characteristics are posited to moderate the impact of the constructs empirically validated in the UTAUT2 model. Through an important cluster of antecedents the proposed model aims to enhance our understanding of consumer motivations for using SMDs and aid efforts to promote the adoption and diffusion of these devices.

Recently introduced by the major credit card associations as replacements for the decommissioned SET and 3DSET protocols, the new payment models, 3DSecure and UCAF/SPA, have been designed to provide an added level of security for merchants and consumers. Using data gleaned from preliminary interviews, discussion forums and promotional material, we present a critical analysis of the potential barriers and facilitators that will impact on the widespread diffusion of these programs. Studies show that many software developers are reluctant, for a variety of reasons, to employ sys... more Studies show that many software developers are reluctant, for a variety of reasons, to employ system development methodologies (SDMs) in the course of building their applications. The proponents of Agile methodologies suggest that many of the factors that have inhibited the use of SDMs to date have largely been addressed in the underlying principles of Agile methods. Using adoption theory as a basis to inform, this paper contextualises the results of a preliminary study into the adoption process of an early adopter of Extreme Programming (XP). The case study undertaken provides further insights into the factors that have thus far inhibited the use of SDMs and describes the potential for the more widespread adoption and diffusion of Agile methodologies, as a relatively new systems development approach.

[Abstract]: Recently introduced by the major credit card associations as replacements for the dec... more [Abstract]: Recently introduced by the major credit card associations as replacements for the decommissioned SET and 3DSET protocols, the new payment models, 3DSecure and UCAF/SPA, have been designed to provide online merchants with a solution to an existing problem in online credit card transactions - the lack of an effective and efficient means of authenticating cardholders. The expected benefits arising from this added level of security from the merchant's perspective are increased consumer confidence, significant reduction in the levels of fraud and chargebacks and 'liability shift'. Using data gleaned from preliminary interviews, discussion forums and promotional material, we present a critical analysis of the potential barriers and facilitators that will impact on the widespread traction of these programs in the marketplace in the coming years.

The levels of confidence that exist among potential and existing online purchasers can be influenced significantly by the extent to which merchants inform and reassure their customers over security features and mechanisms that support their e-payment options. This study sets out to establish how online merchants attempt to engender this trust in the payment instrument options on offer to potential customers by indicating technical competence and ability to meet fiduciary obligations. A preliminary assessment of a selected number of Australian web sites was made to determine the extent to which they realize security solutions and other trust mechanisms in practice, and the level and the quality of information they provide to consumers on the technical security solutions in place.

A Systematic Literature Mapping to Investigate the Role of IT in Knowledge Stock and Transfer

There is a strong desire to enhance organisational knowledge transfer based on knowledge stock. A... more There is a strong desire to enhance organisational knowledge transfer based on knowledge stock. A review of current literature was conducted which highlighted the importance of IT to identify knowledge stock of people for effective knowledge transfer. Furthermore, we conducted a systematic mapping of scholarly studies to explore the use of IT in tacit and explicit knowledge transfer by conducting a search in four databases: IEEE Xplorer, ScienceDirect, Scopus and Springer. We found that most of the studies have highlighted the importance of IT in explicit knowledge transfer only. We expanded our review to include the top eight journals in Information Systems and obtained the same result. Our findings demonstrate the lack of use of IT towards identifying knowledge stock to enable tacit knowledge transfer. In the next phase of our research, we plan to use an IT artefact for tacit knowledge transfer by identifying knowledge stock of IT professionals.

[Abstract]: Agile methodologies have the potential to enhance the software development process in... more [Abstract]: Agile methodologies have the potential to enhance the software development process in a range of application areas, including the aged and community care sector. This pilot case study explores the potential for applying Agile software development methodologies at a typical organization from this sector, and is aimed at raising awareness of these methodologies and their espoused tenets and principles. The approach is taken from the user (customer) perspective, rather than that of the system developer. The study indicates that the ideals of Agile largely match the customer requirements for this application development domain. Further qualitative and quantitative studies will investigate the potential for, and actual use of, Agile methodologies in this sector.

Previous studies have shown that greater participation and communication can stimulate student learning and lead to better academic performance, increased motivation, and an appreciation of different points of views. The model holds that Perceived Mobility Value and Perceived Enjoyment are direct determinants of usage intention and behaviour and that Activity-based Usage and Device Characteristics are posited to mediate the impact of these constructs. The proposed model aims to enhance one’s understanding of consumer motivations for using SMDs and can aid efforts to promote the adoption and diffusion of these devices.
