Making human resource more effective, competence-based hiring, development, and performance evaluation are popular phenomena discussed in the literature though not very common in practice. Despite their importance, the reason these are not commonly implemented may be the complexity of the subject and the absence of a generalized framework, which can be adopted with little or no modifications. There have been efforts made for competency framework development, but these are occupation-specific and usually limited in implementation. A need for an easily replicated general framework exists, which has followed a structured and scientific methodology utilizing professional expertise during development, which is simple to understand and is applicable to as many jobs as required. This article examines in detail the development approach of a generic competency framework using scientific tools and producing weighted ratings...

It is estimated that, according to the growing morbidity, by 2040, the world will cross 642 million diabetic patients. This means that each one of the ten adults will be diabetes-affected. Diabetes can also lead to other illnesses such as heart attacks, kidney damage, and even blindness. The prediction of diabetes in advance motivates us to develop a machine learning-based model. A dataset was obtained from the online repository for this work. The obtained dataset was imbalanced. An imbalanced dataset presents a challenge that is needed to be balanced for prediction using multiple machine learning like Tomek and SMOTE. These techniques remove necessary outliers that are incomplete in the provided dataset. These outliers are also managed using the IQR method. Additionally, this research employed a two-stage model selection methodology. In the first stage, logistic regression, Support Vector Mac...

Large amounts of data can be combined at this science hotspot. Making sense of big data has become increasingly difficult due to its volume, velocity, precision, and variety (sometimes referred to as heterogeneity). Many data sources are employed to create data heterogeneity. Big data fusion has both advantages and disadvantages when it comes to integrating data from a variety of sources. The focus of this work is on large data fusion using deep learning approaches to combine datasets from a variety of different sources. It is also possible to combine data from many sources. People are increasingly turning to the Internet and web-based services to meet their daily demands. Storage media can hold data in a variety of formats. Managing the vast volume of data is quite tough for an organization (referred to as “big data”). These data are rationally combined and incorporated into the system. Data fusion will be the ...

Stitch class 400 is a multi-thread chain stitch which consumes a less amount of thread as compared with stitch class 500 but more thread as compared with stitch class 300. Sewing thread calculation plays a significant role in determining the exact amount of thread for completing a garment and predicting the right quantity of thread for bulk production. The geometrical model developed was used for predicting sewing thread consumption by using different factors like stitch density (8 and 12 SPI), material thickness (2, 4 and 6 layers of fabric), and type of material (denim, knitted and fleece). The model was validated with a total of 18 samples sewn with different kinds of fabric, SPI, and material thickness. It was concluded that the model could predict sewing thread consumption with more than 97.18% accuracy.

A supply chain usually operates in such a network of entities where the resilience of one supplier is critical to overall supply chain resilience. Therefore, resilient planning is a key strategic requirement in supplier selection decisions for a competitive supply chain. The aim of this research is to develop quantitative resilient criteria for supplier selection and order allocation in a fuzzy environment. To serve the purpose, a possibilistic fuzzy multi-objective approach was proposed and an interactive fuzzy optimization solution methodology was developed. Using the proposed approach, organizations can tradeoff between cost and resilience in supply networks. The approach is illustrated using a supply chain case from a garments manufacturing company.

The effect of entanglement and correlated noise in a four-player quantum Minority game is investi... more The effect of entanglement and correlated noise in a four-player quantum Minority game is investigated. Different time correlated quantum memory channels are considered to analyze the Nash equilibrium payoff of the 1st player. It is seen that the Nash equilibrium payoff is substantially enhanced due to the presence of correlated noise. The behaviour of damping channels (amplitude damping and phase damping) is approximately similar. However, bitphase flip channel heavily influences the minority game as compared to other channels in the presence of correlated noise. On the other hand, phase flip channel has a symmetrical behaviour around 50% noise threshold. The significant reduction in payoffs due to decoherence is well compensated due to the presence of correlated noise. However, the Nash equilibrium of the game does not change in the presence of noise. It is seen that in case of generalized amplitude damping channel, entanglement plays a significant role at lower level of decoherence. The channel has less dominant effects on the payoff at higher values of decoherence. Furthermore, amplitude damping and generalized amplitude damping channels have almost comparable effects at lower level of decoherence (p < 0.5). Therefore, the game deserves careful study during its implementation due to prominent role of noise for different channels.

The negativity and realignment criterion are used to quantify the entanglement of the system. It is shown that the entanglement sudden death and distibility sudden death can be avoided in the presence of phase flip, trit flip and trit-phase flip environments. It is shown that certain free entangled distillable qutrit states become bound entangled or separable i.e. convert into non-distillable states under different flipping noises. It is also seen that local operations do not have any effect on the entanglement dynamics of the system. Further more, no ESD and DSD is seen for the case of trit flip channel.

It is shown that the entanglement of initial state is heavily influenced by quantum correlations. It is seen that quantum memory compensates the loss of entanglement generated caused by the Unruh effect. It is interesting to note that the sudden death of entanglement disappears for any acceleration for higher values of memory. Therefore, it is possible to avoid ESD in non-inertial frames due to the presence of quantum memory. Furthermore, the degree of entanglement is enhanced as we increase the degree of memory and it maximizes for maximum correlations.

A small dish type solar air heater, connected to a drying chamber was developed in May, 2012 to evaluate its performance for drying apricots. The efficiency of this solar air heater was evaluated in May, 2012 at three air flow rates. Results showed that flow rates significantly (P< 0.000) affected the efficiency of the solar air heater. Efficiency improved from 20% at the natural flow rate of 0.01kg. secG1 to 42.6% at a high convective flow rate of 0.21 kg. secG1. Furthermore apricots were dehydrated at a temperature of 50 °C and less than 15% relative humidity. Apricots were dried to a moisture content of less than 8%. It was experiential that apricots took 13 hours of lost moisture from 85% to 8%. It was concluded that solar air heaters must be operated at high flow rates to get maximum efficiency to get valuable drying of apricots.

The plant was dried by three different drying methods namely, solar collector drying, open sun drying and shade drying. After drying different levels (25-100%) of extracting solvent in the form of ethanol, methanol and distilled water were used for extraction. Soxhlet apparatus was used for extraction, while the gas chromatography apparatus was used in the experiment for detecting steroidal saponins in Tribulus terrestris. After extraction, four saponins identified were Tigogenin, Gitogenin, Hecogenin and Neohecogenin. The maximum yield of 61.2% was recorded for flat plate solar drying with 75% ethanol solution, followed 49.5% in shade drying with the same extraction solvent level. The lowest value of 3.1% yield was recorded for distilled water with open sun drying method. It was concluded that Both the drying methods and extraction solvent have a direct effect on the yield of steroidal saponins extracted from Tribulus terrestris. A maximum yield of almost 60% saponins may be achieved, if Tribulus terrestris is dried using a flat plate solar collector and extorted with 75% ethanol solution using GC-MS technique. Open sun drying minimizes saponins in Tribulus terrestris, while distilled water is the worse extracting solvent for extraction of steroidal saponins from Tribulus terrestris.

For this purpose dataset comprising 30 years for the period 1976 to 2005 were acquired from 30 meteorological observatories from different parts of the country. The whole data was analyzed through Analysis Of Variations (ANOVA) along Dunnett T3 test. The result has shown a decreasing trend (-1.18mm/decade) all over the country, which may be attributed to the presence of drought period during 1998-2001. Stations located in different zones of the country mainly from North, North West, West and Coastal areas respectively show overall significant decreasing trend whereas plain areas and South West of the country have been observed with no significant trend. Adverse consequences of the rainfall have already been observed in Pakistan in the form of droughts and super floods which have badly affected human settlements, water management a...

Their electrochemical density of states was determined by chronopotentiometry and displayed a pronounced low-energy peak followed by an almost featureless contribution at higher energies. These results were compared with density functional theory calculations for amorphous V2O5. Significant similarities were found between measured data and computations; specifically, the experimental low-energy peak corresponds to a split-off part of the conduction band apparent in the computations. Furthermore, the calculations approximately reproduce the experimental band gap observed in optical measurements.

Hydrogen atoms abruptly become diffusing before melting on temperature increase. Intramolecular bonding becomes rather weak at high pressure 17 that explains easy pairingdepairing process 18. This might explain the difference between the Loubeyre et al. 3 and Eremets and Troyan 9 experiments. The apparent contradiction between the metallization and no-metallization experiments could be

Heat and mass transfer analysis is performed in the presence of thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, and Brownian motion and thermophoresis effects. Mathematical modelling of considered flow problem is developed under boundary layer and Rosseland's approximations. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations are converted into ordinary differential equations via transformations. Solution expressions of velocity, temperature and concentration are presented in the series forms. Impacts of physical parameters on the dimensionless temperature and concentration are shown and discussed. Skin-friction coefficients are analyzed numerically. A comparison in a limiting sense is provided to validate the present series solutions.

More specifically, the paper focuses on the status of computers and other commonly used hardware, e‐mail, internet, library software, automated user services, expenditure on IT and online resources available in academic libraries of Pakistan.Design/methodology/approachThe data are collected through a questionnaire survey of 288 (sample of 682) academic libraries across Pakistan. A total of 219 (76 per cent) valid responses are used for data analysis and interpretation using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS).FindingsThe paper finds a low level of IT availability, especially the absence of computers, e‐mail and internet in few libraries. Similarly, the libraries are far behind to achieve excellent IT levels. It is found that libraries need to be fully automated using standard library software/management systems. However, access to online resou...

Background: Degenerative effects of critical regulators of reproduction, the kisspeptin peptides,... more Background: Degenerative effects of critical regulators of reproduction, the kisspeptin peptides, on cellular aspects of sexually immature male gonads are known but similar information on accessory sex glands remain elusive. Methods: Prepubertal laboratory rats were injected kisspeptin-10 at three different dosage concentrations (10 pg, 1 ng and 1 microgram) for a period of continuous 12 days at the rate of two doses per day. Control rats were maintained in parallel. The day following the end of the experimental period, seminal vesicles were removed and processed for light and electron microscopic examination using the standard methods. DNA damage was estimated by DNA ladder assay and DNA fragmentation assay. Results: The results demonstrated cellular degeneration. Epithelial cell height of seminal vesicles decreased significantly at all doses (P < 0.05). Marked decrease in epithelial folds was readily noticeable, while the lumen was dilated. Ultrastructural changes were characterized by dilatation of endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi complex, heterochromatization of nuclei, invagination of nuclear membranes and a decreased number of secretory granules. Percent DNA damage to the seminal vesicle was 19.54 +/-1.98, 38.06 +/-2.09 and 58.18 +/-2.59 at 10 pg, 1 ng and 1 microgram doses respectively. Conclusion: The study reveals that continuous administration of kisspeptin does not lead to an early maturation but instead severe degeneration of sexually immature seminal vesicles.

Amplitude damping, depolarizing, phase damping, trit-phase flip and phase flip channels are considered to analyze the behaviour of players payoffs. It is seen that Alice's payoff is heavily influenced by the amplitude damping channel as compared to the depolarizing and flipping channels. However, for higher level of decoherence, Alice's payoff is strongly affected by depolarizing noise. Whereas the behaviour of phase damping channel is symmetrical around 50 % decoherence. It is also seen that for maximum decoherence (p = 1), the influence of amplitude damping channel dominates over depolarizing and flipping channels. Whereas, phase damping channel has no effect on the Alice's payoff. Therefore, the problem becomes noiseless one at maximum decoherence in case of phase damping channel. Furthermore, the Nash equilibrium of the problem does not change under decoherence.

Recently, it was found that substitution of one of the H atoms in the NH 3 group by Li or Na could significantly improve the hydrogen desorption properties. The resulting lithium amidoborane ͑LiNH 2 BH 3 ͒ and sodium amidoborane ͑NaNH 2 BH 3 ͒ compounds have been studied by us using density-functional theory. Specifically, we have succeeded in determining the detailed crystal structures of LiNH 2 BH 3 and NaNH 2 BH 3 , including the atomic positions in their respective unit cells. Calculated hydrogen removal energies of the hydrogen release reactions are found to be in good agreement with the experimental trend.

Using density functional theory (DFT), we report the modulated electronic and magnetic properties... more Using density functional theory (DFT), we report the modulated electronic and magnetic properties of MoS 2 nanoribbon by passivating the ribbon edges with H and C separately. For the modeled symmetric MoS 2 nanoribbon with a zigzag type edge, one side is terminated at Mo and the other side is terminated at S. For the zigzag type, we have studied two ribbons of width ∼3 Å and 6 Å respectively. Both of these pristine zigzag type nanoribbons are found to be metallic and also ferromagnetic. However, the increase in the ribbon width results in a decrease in the net magnetic moment of the nanoribbon. Thereafter, we study the modulated electronic and magnetic properties of the nanoribbon of ∼3 Å width by saturating the ribbon edges with H and C. In one case, by passivating the zigzag type ribbon with H at the S terminated edge, we find a net increase in magnetic moment of the ribbon when compared with the pristine one. Furthermore, when the ribbon is passivated with H at both of the edges, the net magnetic moment shows a decreasing trend. In another case, the zigzag nanoribbon is passivated with C in a similar fashion to H and we find with one edge passivation the net magnetic moment of the ribbon decreases, whereas with both edges C passivated the ribbon magnetism increases significantly. However, the nanoribbon modeled with the armchair type of edge and terminated with Mo at both sides is found to be non-magnetic and semiconducting. Passivating the armchair type nanoribbon with H and C, we find the band gap shows an increasing trend when going from one side to both sides passivation. In all cases, the armchair type nanoribbons show non-magnetic behavior.
