The points P i = (x i , y i ) ∈ C(Q), i = 1, 2, ..., k, are said to be in a geometric progression of length k if the rational numbers x i , i = 1, 2, ..., k, form a geometric progression sequence in Q, i.e., x i = pt i for some p, t ∈ Q. In this paper we prove the existence of an infinite family of hyperelliptic curves on which there is a sequence of rational points in a geometric progression of length at least eight.

Many intelligent transportation systems, such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), have ... more Many intelligent transportation systems, such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), have been being developed to increase traffic safety. ADAS have the potential to save lives and reduce crashes by eliminating the human error in the driving process. The Lane detection system is designed to identify and estimate the position of lane boundaries in front of the ego-vehicle. Thus, it serves as a crucial and fundamental component in various ADAS, for instance, lane keeping assistance and lane departure warning assistance systems. In this paper, a proposed method of visionbased lane detection in urban roads is presented. First, we define a region of interest to exclude the misleading parts of the road image, then a bird's-eye view of the road in front of the ego-vehicle is obtained by employing the inverse perspective mapping. Second, we utilize the distinct colors of lane markings to achieve robust lane markings candidate detection. Finally, the estimated lane boundaries are represented by quadratic models whose parameters are estimated from the detected lane pixels using the RANSAC algorithm. Furthermore, we present a thorough evaluation of the detection performance of the proposed method using the ground-truth data of the Caltech dataset and a comparative analysis between the quadratic model used in the proposed method and other models presented in the literature. Detection results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in detecting lane boundaries in different conditions in urban roads, including curved lanes, shadows, illumination variations and presence of street writings. Moreover, the overall process takes an average time of 30.63 milliseconds per frame.

Outcomes of a Swallowable Intragastric Balloon (Elipse™) on 96 Overweight and Obese Patients

Background The traditional gastric balloons have been used for several years to reduce weight in ... more Background The traditional gastric balloons have been used for several years to reduce weight in overweight and obese patients, but the need for sedation and upper endoscopy leading to several limitations. The current series is the first study that evaluates the safety and effectiveness of the swallowable gastric (Elipse™) balloon in our population on the national level. Methods Ninety-six patients (mean BMI was 33.6 ± 4.3 kg/m 2 ) participated in this study. All patients swallowed one Elipse ™ balloon intended to remain in the stomach for 4 months, self-empty, and then pass. Each balloon was filled with 550 mL of filling fluid. Anti-emetics and anti-spasmodic drugs were prescribed for 2-3 days after insertion; proton pump inhibitor was prescribed twice daily 1 week before the procedure and continued until the end of residence time (16-20 weeks). Results In the current series, at end of the procedure (after 4 months), the overall mean weight loss (WL) was 11.2 ± 5.1 kg, mean waist circumference reduction was 10.9 ± 2.1 cm, and a mean BMI reduction was 4.9 ± 2.0 kg/m 2 . The percentage of total body weight loss (TBWL%) was 12.1 ± 5.2%. The Elipse ™ therapy reported improvements in the metabolic parameters investigated. Conclusion This swallowable gastric balloon (Elipse ™ ) can be safely and successfully swallowed, filled, imaged, and passed with accepted weight loss and clinical improvement in factors related to the metabolic syndrome.

This work aims to study the subsurface and reservoir characteristics to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of Bahariya Formation based on subsurface data available from open-hole well log records of nine wells distributed in the area of study. The subsurface geologic setting, in terms of determining the stratigraphic and structural settings, is gained through the construction of different aligned stratigraphic and structural cross sections, isopach and lithofacies maps. The petrophysical evaluation, in terms of determining the petrophysical characteristics; net pay thickness, effective porosity (∅ eff ), shale content (V sh ), water saturation (S w ) and hydrocarbon saturation ( S h ), is acquired through quantitative computer processed interpretation. The petrophysical characteristics are illustrated laterally in the form of iso-parametric maps and vertically in the form of litho-saturation cross-plots. According to subsurface study and petrophysical evaluation the most productive area is located in central and southern parts of Tut field.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of hypovitaminosis D and related correlates among patients with hip fracture in Assiut University Hospitals in Upper Egypt. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in 133 patients with hip fracture, aged 50 years and older, admitted to Trauma Unit of Assiut University Hospitals, from January through December 2014. Patients were selected by systematic random sampling. Serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D level was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay; bone mineral density (BMD) by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Weight and height measurements were used for body mass index (BMI) calculation. Results: Patients’ median age was 70 years (range: 50-99); 51.9% were females.
