Parent education is a critical component of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for children ... more Parent education is a critical component of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Research consistently demonstrates that when parents are actively involved in ABA based interventions, children experience improved outcomes, including enhanced communication, social skills, and adaptive behaviours, as well as reduced maladaptive behaviours. Furthermore, parent education contributes to shorter treatment times, ensuring consistency and generalisation of skills across settings. This paper explores the role of parent education in ABA, its impact on treatment efficacy, and the mechanisms through which it fosters better outcomes for children with autism. Evidence from recent studies and expert recommendations are discussed to highlight the importance of integrating parent training into ABA programmes.

This criticism has sparked a movement to push back against traditional ABA practices, advocating for more ethical, person centred, and strengths based approaches. This paper explores the evolution of ABA, the critiques it faces, and the emergence of strengths based ABA as a response to these concerns. By shifting the focus from deficits to strengths and emphasizing positive behavior supports, strengths based ABA aims to address legacy issues, empower individuals, and promote more humane and effective interventions.

The credentialing landscape in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has expanded significantly, with b... more The credentialing landscape in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has expanded significantly, with bodies like the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), Qualified Applied Behavior Analysis Board (QABA), and others offering accredited certifications (e.g., BCBA, RBT, QBA, ABAT). Despite promoting competition and quality, challenges arise from the genericization of credential names (e.g., "BCBA" or "RBT") to describe job roles, leading to legislative inaccuracies that favor specific certifications over equally accredited alternatives. This risks monopolistic practices and stifles innovation. The paper advocates for legislation to prioritize job titles (e.g., "Behavior Analyst") over proprietary credential names and adopt criteria-based acceptance of all accredited certifications, ensuring equity, clarity, and adherence to professional standards. Addressing terminology misuse and promoting inclusive policies are critical to advancing ABA’s evolving credentialing ecosystem.
