Dance as a form of art is the mirror of particular social, political and economic circumstances o... more Dance as a form of art is the mirror of particular social, political and economic circumstances of each era. It reflects the ideologies, the beliefs and the society of each era, but also of each region. In the past, icons and depictions in general, served as a kind of photography or a clip form cinematographic film, which unraveled in front of us. Through these depictions we can see how the relations between the two genders are formed both in society and, more specifically, through dance. Therefore, this research aims at giving prominence to the position of women in dance in that period. The data collection was based on secondary sources and more particularly on the principles of literature and historical archival research. The representations of dance will be interpreted under the conditions of visual anthropology, where the representations work exactly as a film, in which we can observe various component elements of the dance. In conclusion, the depictions of the Byzantine period reveal data of the dance tradition of the Byzantine people and reveal to us that the presence of woman was real, intense and sometimes essential during the dance events of the Byzantium.

According to McCarthy’s theory, all students can learn effectively in a cycle of learning that consists of eight steps, which adapt to all learners’ learning styles. For this reason, Bernice McCarthy’s 4MAT Model is analysed, its innovative application to distance learning material is discussed, while an example of material directed to teachers for the purposes of a training course concerning the art of Drama of the kindergarten curriculum is presented.

Validity and Reliability of Scores from a Dance Assessment Instrument: Its Application on Greek Folk Dance
ABSTRACT The aim of the present research was 1(a) to develop a dance performance assessment instr... more ABSTRACT The aim of the present research was 1(a) to develop a dance performance assessment instrument and 2(b) to apply this instrument to Greek folk dance. A list of dance performance assessment criteria grouped in seven categories was developed according to the principles of Labanalysis. These criteria were used by two specially trained judges. The methodological design included 1(a) the examination of content validity and reliability (judges’ intra- and interobserver agreement) and 2(b) the comparison of dancers’ performance according to years of dance experience. Acceptable percentages of both types of agreement (80%-80%–100%) were obtained. Recruited for the research were 106 dancers of Greek folk dance (18-18–40 years old), who were separated into three groups. divided in three groups were recruited for the research. After being video recorded during the performance of the folk dance “karsilamas aise,”, they were rated by the judges. The results showed that the instrument could record accurately each dancer’s level of proficiency according to years of dance experience.

This paper examines specific technological and pedagogical parameters in relation to teleconferen... more This paper examines specific technological and pedagogical parameters in relation to teleconference, namely the “perceived ease of use”, the “perceived usefulness”, the “social presence” and the “intention to use”. A case study was conducted involving postgraduate students from a modular course of the School of Humanities of the Hellenic Open University. Based on this study, the preconditions for the efficient use of teleconference as an inclusive educational tool are also discussed. The results of the study suggest that a main condition for the successful educational use of teleconference is the familiarization with the technology (teleconference platform), so that it can be used with autonomy and ease. Furthermore, the more useful students believe that teleconference is for their studies, the greater is their intent to participate in teleconference meetings. The proposed method combines the demonstration of the dance by the teacher with the rhythmic, motor and symbolic exploration of the four basic movement concepts: knowledge of body, spatial awareness, sense of effort, relationships, as these are defined by the Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) theory (Laban & Lawrence, 1974). The main innovation of the new method is the use of the Labanotation symbols for the representation of the four movement concepts and their inclusion in verbal-motor, visual-motor and digital-motor teaching activities. In particular, the paper explores the possibility of applying ODL in motor learning with particular emphasis on performance arts and dance. However, the review of the existing studies relating to the theory showed the use of a variety of functional definitions of transactional distance that reveals an absence of consensus. The purpose of the present study is the theoretical processing of its fundamental concept "transactional distance", as well as the incorporation of the theory into the epistemological framework of realism. Η συγκεκριμένη εργασία έχει σκοπό τη διερεύνηση πρακτικών της Ανοικτής και εξ Αποστάσεως Εκπαίδευ... more Η συγκεκριμένη εργασία έχει σκοπό τη διερεύνηση πρακτικών της Ανοικτής και εξ Αποστάσεως Εκπαίδευσης σε μια προσπάθεια γεφύρωσης της τυπικής, μη τυπικής και άτυπης μάθησης μέσω των νέων τεχνολογιών και ειδικότερα μέσω των μαζικών ανοικτών διαδικτυακών μαθημάτων (MOOCs). Ειδικότερα, μέσα από την ανασκόπηση της σχετικής βιβλιογραφίας, διαπιστώνεται ότι πρακτικές όπως είναι τα MOOCs, οι διαδικτυακές κοινότητες μάθησης, τα κοινωνικά δίκτυα, οι ανοικτοί εκπαιδευτικοί πόροι, το διαδικτυακό ραδιόφωνο και η τηλεόραση, η ηλεκτρονική εφημερίδα, μπορούν να συνδυάσουν τις τρεις μορφές μάθησης. Ιδιαίτερη μνεία γίνεται για τα MOOCs, που σημειώνουν ραγδαία ανάπτυξη την τελευταία δεκαετία και δέχονται έντονη κριτική για τη συνεισφορά τους στη μάθηση. Effects of Several Warm-Up Protocols (Static, Dynamic, No Stretching, Greek Traditional Dance) on Motor Skill Performance in Primary School Students

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of four warm-up protocols on agility, strength, ... more The aim of this study was to compare the effects of four warm-up protocols on agility, strength, as well as static and dynamic flexibility in primary school students. The participants were forty-four students of a primary school (aged 11.7±0.47 years old, 19 boys and 25 girls). All of them carried out, in four different days, one of the following protocols: (a) 3 minutes of jogging followed by 5 minutes of static stretching, (b) 3 minutes of jogging followed by 5 minutes of dynamic stretching, (c) 3 minutes of jogging followed by a 5-minute break (no-stretching protocol), and (d) 8 minutes of Greek traditional dances. On the completion of the protocols, the participants did the following tests: the agility shuttle run test (4x10m), the standing long jump test, the sit & reach test, and the active straight leg raise test (dynamic flexibility). According to the results of the repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), the static stretching protocol showed significantly better scores on static flexibility compared to no-stretching and dance protocols. Regarding long jump the dynamic stretching performed significantly better compared to static stretching and no-stretching. In reference to dynamic flexibility, there were no significant differences between the four warm-up protocols. In relation to agility, the dance protocol performed significantly better compared to static stretching. Moreover, girls performed better in sit & reach test compared to boys. In conclusion, the static protocol is proposed for lessons that require a maximal range of motion (flexibility). On the other hand, it seems that dynamic stretching is more suitable than the other protocols when the lesson requires lower extremity strength. Moreover, it seems that the dance protocol is adequate for lessons requiring agility. Therefore, teachers should use different stretching protocols according to the content of the lesson.
