The present study explores the concept of reenactment of known and unknown war trauma that may be... more The present study explores the concept of reenactment of known and unknown war trauma that may be unfamiliar to the readers while also opening up new discourses of understanding and empathy through the lens of Cathy Caruth's trauma theory by focusing on the novel A Land of Permanent Goodbyes by Atia Abawi. War fiction, such as Abawi's novel, highlights the concept of psychological trauma as a double wound (known as “outsiders” and unknown as “insiders”) through the textual analysis and characterization of characters by presenting their haunting pasts, present lives, and losses concerning traumatic events. The present study also recounts what the trauma of the unknown means to war-torn survivors by focusing on “trauma as double wounds” from three aspects: cause, effects, and recuperation. Finally, the study concludes with a new paradigm in which trauma is portrayed as a healer rather than a wound.

This study investigates trauma from a psychological standpoint, based on Chang-Rae Lee’s novel Native Speaker. In describing a marker of citizenship, the novel’s title also points to who is the native language speaker and who is a native of a country, and why one who is not may be excluded. The Korean immigrants’ vulnerability to the English language and racial differences highlights their status as minority “others,” and they suffer from transgenerational trauma. This paper is an attempt to analyze liberal framework of federation and its connection with neoliberal development project of CPEC. In neoliberal framework, the decentralization and distribution of resources amongst the federating units and sub-national identities seems complex puzzle. The dominant forces amongst federating units joined same elite class for the protection of their own interest. This elite concentration and bargain model is reciprocal to the fundamental idea of federation. This paper demonstrates that CPEC is sharpening the unevenness amongst the federating units and sub-national identities.

This was the first time six agronomic traits in the large-scale germplasm of rice under lowland and upland conditions with an augmented randomized complete block design (ARCBD) were analysed. The genotypes revealing drought resistant grade (DRG) scores of 1, 1–3, 3 and 3–5 were considered drought-tolerant and comprised 10% of the assessed germplasm. These findings were consistent with the agglomerative hierarchical cluster (AHC) analysis that classified germplasm in nine clusters. A size-efficient coupling system is proposed with the capability of being integrated with additional resonators without increasing the size of the circuit. Two flag-shaped resonators along with two stepped-impedance resonators are integrated with the coupling system to firstly enhance the quality response of the filter, and secondly to add an independent adjustability feature to the filter. The dual passband of the filter is centered at 4.42 GHz and 7.2 GHz, respectively, with narrow passbands of 2.12% and 1.15%. The lower and upper passbands can be swept independently over 600 MHz and 1000 MHz by changing only one parameter of the filter without any destructive effects on the frequency response. The study evaluated the performance of 2030 rice genotypes under continuous drought stress conditions based on days to flowering (DF). The genotypes under augmented randomized complete block design were sown in May/June of 2017 and 2018 in the field with movable rainout that resulted in huge genetic diversity among the accessions. Descriptive statistics confirmed clear variation among accessions on growth duration, plant height to leaf, plant height to panicle, and germination percentage. Correlation, chemometric, and agglomerative hierarchical cluster analyses were performed that categorized the germplasm into 10 groups. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the chest was performed in 33 patients; 28 patients had a vari... more Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the chest was performed in 33 patients; 28 patients had a variety of malignant tumors and five had benign processes involving the pleura, chest wall, mediastinum, hila , and pulmonary parenchyma. In addition, in vivo T1 and T2 calculations were performed on 17 malignancies and 2 benign processes. Of the 18 patients examined with both MR and computed tomography (CT), 15 MR examinations were considered to be as diagnostic as CT in demonstrating abnormalities. In two cases, CT was superior to MR. In one case without adequate vascular opacification on CT, MR was superior in differentiating a mass from pulmonary artery. It is concluded that, with current technology without respiratory or cardiac gating, MR offers little improvement in diagnosis over contrast-enhanced CT. Furthermore, it does not appear possible to predict tissue type based on T1 and T2 measurements because of a wide overlap in these values.

Introduction: This survey evaluates knowledge, attitudes and practices of medical students toward... more Introduction: This survey evaluates knowledge, attitudes and practices of medical students towards use of antibiotics for upper respiratory infections (URTIs). Methodology: Cross-sectional questionnaire study among 1042 randomly selected medical students in Saudi Arabia. Results: Respondents were mostly Saudis (97.5%), had previous knowledge of antibiotics (99.7%) and their usage (98.3%) against bacterial infections (93.7%). 18.1% thought that they could be used for viral infections. Nearly all students (97.2%) used antibiotics themselves during the previous year and self-medication without a prescription was high at 49% of cases. Most antibiotics were taken for URTI symptoms (61.8%). Female medical students had better knowledge on antibiotic effectiveness against bacteria and viruses, and overall knowledge increased with study year. Health seeking behaviour rates for symptoms of RTI and associated estimated necessity for antibiotics varied but were highest for cough with yellow/green phlegm. Conclusions: The depth of knowledge that healthcare professionals have in relation to the proper use of antibiotics is essential in spreading the right message within communities. This is the first large study among medical students in Saudi Arabia, shedding important light on areas for improvement in the medical curriculum as well as antibiotic practices of medical students themselves.

Advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) are believed to play a significant role in the pathophysiol... more Advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) are believed to play a significant role in the pathophysiology of a variety of diseases including diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Non-invasive skin autofluorescence (SAF) measurement serves as a proxy for tissue accumulation of AGEs. We assessed reference SAF and skin reflectance (SR) values in a Saudi population (n = 1,999) and evaluated the existing risk stratification scale. The mean SAF of the study cohort was 2.06 (SD = 0.57) arbitrary units (AU), which is considerably higher than the values reported for other populations. We show a previously unreported and significant difference in SAF values between men and women, with median (range) values of 1.77 AU (0.79–4.84 AU) and 2.20 AU (0.75–4.59 AU) respectively (p-value « 0.01). The efficacy was compared using decision analysis and Bayes's theorem. Two criteria for a positive test were compared: Criterion 1--the test is positive if the lung scan a) indicates a high probability of pulmonary embolus, or b) is abnormal but indeterminate for pulmonary embolus; Criterion 2--the test is positive a) if the lung scan indicates a high probability of pulmonary embolus, or b) if the emission venogram is positive in a patient with a lung scan considered abnormal but indeterminate for pulmonary embolus. The use of Criterion 2 decreased the sensitivity from 100% to 95% and increased the specificity from 74% to 93%.
