Donacidae is a commercially important family of heterodont bivalves and one of the few bivalve li... more Donacidae is a commercially important family of heterodont bivalves and one of the few bivalve lineages that has successfully colonised brackish and fresh waters. However, to date, no phylogenetic hypothesis exists for this widely distributed group. Here we turn to molecular data from the nuclear and mitochondrial genomes and combine these with the extensive fossil record of donacids to propose an evolutionary hypothesis for the family. Our analyses strongly support the monophyly of Donacidae, including Galatea, Iphigenia and ‘Plebidonax’ deltoides, but render Donax paraphyletic. The subgenus Latona is therefore elevated to genus to accommodate a clade of Indo-Pacific species, while retaining Donax for a clade of mostly Atlantic and American Pacific species, and a few Indo-Pacific species. One of them belong to the new genus Atomicus, characterized by the minute size (less than 1 mm), discoid shell, and other anatomical features; the type species is A. inopinatus n. sp. The other two species belong to the genus Heleobia: H. apua and H. pukua. All new species are so far only found in the type locality. The conchological, anatomical exclusivities and differences are explored under the context of other Brazilian and South American rissooideans/truncatelloideans

Motorized trawl fishing is considered highly predatory due to the accidental capture of numerous ... more Motorized trawl fishing is considered highly predatory due to the accidental capture of numerous organisms. Based on the context and due to the need for knowledge about the malacofauna associated with industrial fishing in the Amazonian Platform, the present study aims to characterize the accompanying malacofauna. The samples were collected in 2016, 2017 and 2018, 250 trawls were monitored. 30 and 80 meters in 22 fisheries, 4,834 molluscs were collected, distributed in five classes (Bivalvia, Cephalopoda, Gastropoda, Polyplacophora and Scaphopoda), and 81 species. The class that presented the greatest diversity was the gastropod followed by the bivalves in relation to abundance. ABSTRACT Phenotypic characters of the uncommon Dimya cf. japonica, based on a specimen from Niue ... more ABSTRACT Phenotypic characters of the uncommon Dimya cf. japonica, based on a specimen from Niue Is. in the South Pacific, are reported to represent the enigmatic Dimyidae in a wide-ranging Bivalvia phylogenetic scenario. The main conclusion is that dimyids are placed between ostreoideans and pectinoideans. This is supported by five synapomorphies. Dimyids are closer to pectinoideans, in that they share four synapomorphies.

The identity of Archierato maugeriae (Gray in Sowerby I, 1832) comb. nov., A. martinicensis (Schi... more The identity of Archierato maugeriae (Gray in Sowerby I, 1832) comb. nov., A. martinicensis (Schilder, 1933) comb. nov. and A. dalli (Morretes, 1941) comb. nov. from the Western Atlantic as well as of A. galapagensis (Schilder, 1933), A. columbella (Menke, 1847) comb. nov. and A. panamaensis (Carpenter, 1856) comb. nov. from the east Pacific are clarified based on the type specimens. The assignment to the genus Archierato Schilder, 1933 is confirmed. The clarification of the well-known, often misinterpreted taxa results in the description of four new species: Archierato michaelmonti nov. sp., Archierato rhondae nov. sp., Archierato janae nov. sp. and Archierato guadeloupensis nov. sp.
