Information Security: The Glory and Penury of SMEs in the Czech and Slovak Republics

Our article analyzes data from 440 information security audits of small and medium-sized Czech an... more Our article analyzes data from 440 information security audits of small and medium-sized Czech and Slovak companies in the years 2015–2019. The aim of our article is to identify the most problematic areas in information security management systems of SMEs. Audit findings are analyzed by company size and by audit type. The taxonomy of enterprises respects the EU methodology of small enterprises with up to 50 employees and medium-sized enterprises with up to 250 employees. The performed audits are divided into four categories - initial, periodical, certification and other. The data were analyzed in MD Excel, using contingency tables. The results show that the biggest problem of today's small and medium-sized organizations in the categories “A12” - Operations Security and “A18 - Compliance”.

The article examines wages in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT). Base... more The article examines wages in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT). Based on the so-called ISPV data (adjusted for inflation), CZSO and Eurostat data, several analyses were performed. The main conclusions are: (1) The number of ICT workers grew faster, their share in total employment increased from 2.2% to 3.9%. (2) From 2008 to 2013, the overall trend in wages is declining and they have been growing significantly since 2014 (influenced by both economic growth and falling inflation). (3) Wages of ICT specialists (CZ ISCO 25) grew considerably faster than those of ICT technicians (CZ ISCO 35). 4) Wages for the entire ICT and for the CZ-ISCO 25 category grew faster than GDP. (5) The gender pay gap in the Czech Republic is among the highest among the countries surveyed, although in 2019 it decreased compared to 2008. (6) Within the Czech Republic, the differences between the salaries of men and women in ICT are smaller than for the entire economy.

We define a new term 'Surveillance of Things' in the context of the study of the surveillance, and try to determine, whether and how the surveillance of people is connected with surveillance of things. We pay particular attention to the Internet of things and analyze in detail the principles of Sigfox network. We work on the presumption that information about people obtained through surveillance of things are interpreted incorrectly and can have a direct impact on groups of people and also individuals.

The aim is to define the current profile and possibilities of innovative forms of acquiring new knowledge in economics and management, determined by quantifying the results of a qualitative survey about university students understanding their content from the YouTube offer, with the intention of discovering and later implementing selected innovative elements of individual e-learning in the management of teaching in universities at present, with the expected time-lagged contribution to the efficient functioning and improvement of public and business practices.
