El aceite fue saponificado, se extrajo su materia insaponificable, derivatizandola por silacion. Se evaluo el porcentaje de recuperacion de 82,96% por extraccion en fase solida. Se estandarizo la tecnica de cromatografia de gases para el analisis de fitoesteroles en matrices oleosas, evaluando los parametros estadisticos: precision, limite de deteccion y cuantificacion, sensibilidad, linealidad y exactitud, logrando valores tolerables. El aceite mostro al β-sitoesterol y estigmasterol como fitoesteroles mayoritarios en la semilla con 2551,1 y 211,1 ppms respectivamente, la confirmacion se realizo por espectrometria de masas. The objective of this study was to compare ovulation rate, number of large ovarian follicles, pla... more The objective of this study was to compare ovulation rate, number of large ovarian follicles, plasma progesterone (P4) and non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) concentrations between lame (n=10) and non-lame (n=10) lactating Holstein cows. The study was conducted in an organic dairy farm and cows were evaluated by ultrasonography and blood sampling every 3 days from 30 days postpartum during a period of 34 days. Cows which became lame during the first 30 days postpartum that experienced a lower ovulation rate were determined by the presence of a corpus luteum (50% for lame cows and 100% for non-lame cows, P ≤ 0.05). The number of large ovarian follicles in the ovaries was 5 for lame cows and 7 for non-lame cows (P=0.09). In addition, lame cows showed lower (P ≤ 0.05) concentrations of plasma P4 compared to non-lame cows. Furthermore, NEFA concentrations were lower (P ≤ 0.05) in lame cows compared to non-lame cows. La hidroxiapatita actualmente es un biomaterial objeto de múltiples estudios de gran importancia ... more La hidroxiapatita actualmente es un biomaterial objeto de múltiples estudios de gran importancia en diferentes ramas de la medicina tales como, la ortopedia y la odontología. En esta investigación se aplicaron tres tratamientos térmicos consecutivos a cáscaras de huevo de gallina, con el fin de usar el Carbonato de Calcio proveniente de las mismas y así sintetizar hidroxiapatita mediante el uso de combustión a altas temperatura. Éste proceso es sencillo en comparación a otros. Finalmente, el producto obtenido después de la reacción de combustión fue caracterizado por los métodos de difracción de rayos X (DRX) y fluorescencia de rayos X (XFR).

A self contained, Master Slave Manipulator operated and largely disposable apparatus for the larg... more A self contained, Master Slave Manipulator operated and largely disposable apparatus for the large scale production of [18F]FDG using nucleophilic fluorination methodology has been developed. The synthetic unit consists of readily available sterile disposable components and is easy to assemble. Operation of the synthetic unit is carried out in a hot cell under a closed system to minimize radiation exposure to personnel. Recovery of ['*O]water by direct distillation from the reaction vial makes the system even more attractive. Normal production runs yield 25-l 50 mCi of ['*F]FDG. Since no manual handling of radioactivity is involved, a scaled up production is feasible by this procedure. Synthesis is based on the nucleophilic fluorination of 1.3.4.6-tetra-O-acetyl-2-O-trifluoromethany~-~-~-mannopyranose (tetraacety] precursor). We have avoided the use of any permanent electrical liquid transfer devices in our system, thereby eliminating the possibility of pyrogen build up. In this series, patients were treated with either itraconazole or fluconazole. Twelve patients received treatment with itraconazole at 400 mg/day, including two patients who had not responded to treatment with fluconazole at 100 mg/day. Of the responses, seven were classified as remissions (mean treatment duration of 24 months), two as improvements, and three as failures. Ten patients received fluconazole. In vitro fertilization (IVF) is morally objectionable for a number of reasons: the destruction of... more In vitro fertilization (IVF) is morally objectionable for a number of reasons: the destruction of human embryos, the danger to women and newborn infants, and the replacement of the marital act in procreation. Recent studies have shown a significant risk of maternal death and morbidity associated with ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome and multiple pregnancies after IVF. Due to lack of uniform regulations for IVF clinics, there is under-reporting of the adverse effects. NaProTechonology is one ethical alternative to IVF for female infertility. One study has confirmed earlier findings that NaProTechonology results in a number of live births similar to that of assisted reproductive technology, without the danger to women and newborn infants. Adoption of born children is another ethical and praiseworthy alternative to IVF.

Identifying attitudes, beliefs, knowledge, and perceptions of caregivers and health professionals is essential in developing effective intervention programs to improve disabled children's sleep health. However, no such qualitative data about adults who have key roles in the life and daytime activities of children with disabilities are available. This qualitative study aimed to understand attitudes, beliefs, knowledge, and perceptions about disabled children's sleep hygiene among caregivers and rehabilitation providers of children with disabilities. Methods: Twenty seven adults, including nine primary caregivers and eighteen rehabilitation providers, participated in five focus group discussions between September and December 2012 at the Rehabilitation Center in Punta Arenas, Chile. A trained facilitator guided focus group discussions using a semi-structured script. Audiotapes and transcripts of focus group discussions were reviewed and analyzed for recurrent themes. Results: Participants identified seven themes related to children's sleep hygiene: lifestyle behaviors, family factors, children's disabilities and/or comorbidities, environmental factors, adults' responsibilities for children's sleep, perception of good sleep, and parental distress about children's sleep problems. While both caregivers and rehabilitation providers recognized the importance of sleep for children's health and functioning, they differed in their understanding of how sleep hygiene practices influence sleep. Rehabilitation providers recognized the negative influence of electronics on sleep and the positive influence of sleep routines. In contrast, caregivers reported use of television/movie watching and stimulants as coping strategies for managing children's sleep problems. Conclusions: Caregivers may benefit from better understanding the influence of electronics and stimulant use on child sleep health. Rehabilitation providers are well positioned to provide educational messages to both children and caregivers in order to change their attitudes, perceptions, and practices surrounding sleep. These qualitative data are valuable in developing intervention programs aimed at improving sleep health among children with disabilities.

The knowledge of these relationships permits to have a better understanding of the tribological systems behavior for improving their design and their performance. This paper has as a goal to give for knowing a matrix-tool that is useful for the modeling of the 2-D problems of elastic contacts. Based on a generalization of Flamants problem, this matrix constitutes a link between the perpendicular displacements to the surface experienced by some points on this and the shape of the distribution of the load in the contact zone. Some experiments showed several internal friction peaks, which are attributed to dislocation relaxation and to martensitic transformation from ␥ to ␣ . The materials were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Two new methods are proposed to determine the adhesion energy by internal friction in thin films layered materials: for the first it is necessary to determine the enthalpy by means of isochronal internal friction measurements, while for the second it is necessary to perform isothermal measurements.

Caspofungin has demonstrated efficacy in invasive candidiasis. However, in a comparative study, m... more Caspofungin has demonstrated efficacy in invasive candidiasis. However, in a comparative study, most patients (>83%) had candidaemia. Therefore, we performed a study in patients with nonfungaemic invasive candidiasis. Patients and methods: Adults with proven non-fungaemic invasive candidiasis or probable chronic disseminated candidiasis (CDC) received caspofungin primary or salvage monotherapy. Most patients received 50 mg daily following a 70 mg loading dose. Patients with endocarditis, osteomyelitis or septic arthritis received caspofungin at 100 mg daily and were allowed dose escalation up to 150 mg. Primary efficacy endpoint was the overall response at end of caspofungin therapy. A favourable overall response required complete resolution of symptoms and either eradication of Candida or radiographic resolution. Results: All 48 patients enrolled had confirmed infection and received 1 dose of caspofungin. At study entry, 8% were neutropenic. The mean APACHE II score was 14.3. Most infections were due to Candida albicans (60%) or Candida glabrata (14%). The overall success at end of caspofungin therapy was 81%. Success by site of infection was as follows: peritonitis 77% (10/13), abdominal abscess 89% (8/9), CDC 88% (7/8), osteomyelitis/septic arthritis 100% (4/4), endocarditis 33% (1/3) and multiple sites 75% (6/8). Outcomes were similar across Candida spp. None of the patients had a serious drug-related adverse event or discontinued caspofungin due to toxicity. Overall mortality until 12 week follow-up was 23%. Conclusions: In deep-seated invasive candidiasis, including peritonitis, abdominal abscesses, CDC and arthritis, caspofungin was effective and safe at regular doses and up to 100 mg daily.
