These methods employ the a priori intormation about the morphology ot the type ot the curve under examination, emphasizing the standpoint ot the user. -The identitication ot the characteristic points and ot the intormative sections ot biomedical curves is paid closer attention. The procedure is illustrated by two actual algorithms, applied to the analysis ot ECG and EMG signals.

Abstract A method of processing uncertain information in rule-based expert systems is presented. ... more Abstract A method of processing uncertain information in rule-based expert systems is presented. The method is based on the multiple-valued threshold logic and provides effective computer implementation owing to minimum requirements on arithmetic operations. The possibility of an adequately fine operation with uncertainty is guaranteed. The modelling of various schemes of human reasoning is allowed merely by altering the threshold values.

In this paper a methodology to solve scheduling applications (e.g. job-shop) using constraint log... more In this paper a methodology to solve scheduling applications (e.g. job-shop) using constraint logic programming (CLP) is presented. Firstly, the CLP problem definition is briefly described. Secondly, a new strategy for finding optimal solution is presented. New strategy consists of three steps. ( ) A heuristic capable to find an initial solution of good quality very quickly (upper bound). (2) A heuristic to find a good lower for optimisation. (3) An effective strategy for finding the optimal solution within a minimal number of steps. The results achieved using this methodology on a set of randomly generated job-shop problems are presented.

Scheduling of Slabs into Push Furnaces-Two Different Approaches

This paper describes a not typical scheduling application which was solved by the research team l... more This paper describes a not typical scheduling application which was solved by the research team lead by Prof. Koštial as a part of a more complex control system for the push furnaces at the VSŽ a.s. (the biggest Slovak metallurgy company). The problem was solved using a heuristic-logistic model for production scheduling of the hot wide-strip rolling mill. Recently, there was another attempt to solve the same problem using a quite new programming paradigm -constraint logic programming. In this paper the technology in question will be briefly described as well as both above-mentioned approaches to solve the problem. Finally, a discussion will close the paper showing the advantages and disadvantages of the two presented solutions.

The basic idea is to create an agent based on Scheduling Program developed at the Technical University of Kosice. The Scheduling Program was developed in the ECL i PS e programming language using its constraint logic programming capabilities. It is used for solving Job-Shop problems. This paper gives the reader some basic information about prepared software.
