This research isan experimental study usingfactorial design, the data were analyzed by using Two-Factor Anova at significance level α 0,05. There were 84 students under investigation, which were determined randomly through multi-stage random sampling. This study aims to (1) describe the design of the teaching module, (2) to develop the teaching mo... more This study aims to (1) describe the design of the teaching module, (2) to develop the teaching module, (3) explore the quality of the teaching module, and (4) produce a practical teaching module, "Writing Argumentative Texts" for Indonesian Language Subjects to support learning at Junior High School in Gorontalo City. The research method is Research and Development (R&D). Data collected by conducting a needs analysis through field observations and interviews with students and teachers of SMP Negeri 6 Gorontalo City in 2022 concerning Teaching Modules for Writing Argumentative Texts in Indonesian Language Subjects used in the learning process, difficulties experienced during carrying out the learning process and material which students have not mastered. Data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive statistics. The results showed that all aspects of the module assessment, including linguistic, visual, content feasibility, and presentation, met the applicable and valid criteria with an average of 3.77. The results of the first and second phase trials showed that the teaching modules were attractive to students. In addition, the evaluation results of the test subjects met the specified Minimum Completeness Criteria so that it could be concluded that each test subject could understand the material for writing argumentation texts. These results show that the module was effectively used in a limited trial of two small groups. Thus, the teaching module developed is valid, practical, and effective for learning Indonesian in the material of writing argumentative texts.

It also sought to identify the learning method that is more effective in improving students' understanding of English tenses. The mixed method approach was applied to students of Junior High School (SMP) DDI Mangkoso in South Sulawesi of Indonesia. The samples comprised 18 students from class VIII/a learning English tenses through the implicit method and eight from VIII/b using the direct method. The results showed that the implicit way significantly increased understanding of English tenses. Students using this method were more actively engaged in the learning process. The observation result and students' responses indicated that implicit and explicit methods are equally enjoyable. However, learning with an explicit method made students unable to understand the materials delivered.

The objectives of the research are (1) to find out the way of the two societies with different la... more The objectives of the research are (1) to find out the way of the two societies with different language and culture background assimilate together in the Togean Island, (2) to find out how to adapt their language and culture among Togean Society and the tourists in Togean island, (3) to find out the tolerance attitude exist among native people and the tourist in Togean Island, and (4) to find out the sympathy attitude between two groups with different language and culture background occur in Togean Island.The research used qualitative approach. The research findings were (1) Different language and culture background assimilation occurred when NS used a foreign language (English) to assimilate their language with NNS interaction. NS developed their language assimilation by using code switching and code mixing strategies. On the other hand, NNS also tried to acquire NS language; (2) Culture assimilation occurred in both NS and NNS when they were doing cultural practice, cultural activities, food selection, and interpersonal contact in both NS and NNS of Togean. (3) Language and culture adaptation of NS and NNS occurred at (a) intensive interaction with NS and NNS, (b) followed traditional habits of the NS, (c) eat rice for meals, (d) eat traditional foods, (e) participated in social activities, and (f) attending traditional activities. (4) Tolerance attitude between NS and NNS of Togean related to respects ethnics, ideology, accepted to other people, helpful, give appreciation, and permit among NS and NNS of Togean Islands. They have good tolerance attitude each other.Sympathy attitude is important unsure that should be done in interaction for make interaction running well, particularly for native speaker and non native speaker. In this research setting founded there are a lot of aspects that getting sympathy from native speaker and non native speaker. The aspect are language used, participated in traditional festival/ceremony, wear polite dress, followed the rule that made by native speaker, and many others. The significance of this research are (1) The research gives a good contribution for linguistic, especially the theory of antropolinguistics, sosiolinguistics, and psycholinguistics,(2) It can be increased various theory of acculturation in language and culture in Indonesia, and (3) the research findings are significance for developing applied linguistics for teaching cross cultural understanding and give information for students and teacher in promoting their learning and teaching related to language and culture, tourism sectors in Togean Island.

Teachers must improve learning performance and motivation to overcome learning obstacles, especially when online learning has supplanted traditional teaching method following Covid-19. Therefore, online learning models should be implemented as a new learning style. This research aims to examine this topic, namely the use of Google Classroom to enhance English learning achievement and motivation. The investigation was qualitative and case-based which include observing and documenting the behaviors of students at SMP Negeri 1 Limboto, Gorontalo, Indonesia, in particular eighth-grade students who learn using Google Classroom. The data will be collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings of this research indicated that the use of Google Classroom increases the intrinsic motivation of students, since all of the assessment indicators are over 60 percent. Therefore, this finding indicated that students prefer to learn English by integrating techonology in this case Google Classroom. This findings then lead to another finding, in which the integrating of Google Classroom during teaching and learning English may increase students learning performance. In this way, online learning has a positive effect on students learning motivations. By the findings of this research, it has also been confirmed that there is a very closed connection between the intrinsic and extrinsic motivations of the students, which is in line with the theories provided (

The main problem of this study was "What are students of the Vocational School of Computer Networ... more The main problem of this study was "What are students of the Vocational School of Computer Networks need in learning English?" and "How is the development of supplementary English materials for reading skill?" The objective aimed at describing the development of supplementary reading materials for the tenth-grade vocational school based on the 2013 curriculum. The subject was the computer networks students in grade tenth in the 2015/2016 academic year consisting of twenty-two students (five males and 17 females). This research used R & D (Research and Development) method. The data were gathered from a number of sources, including students' need analysis of English reading materials in grade X in the students' book of 2013 curriculum, supplementary development of the English reading materials for computer networks students, and expert validation of supplementary English reading materials and students' response after used the supplementary English materials. The findings showed that more than 30% of students were difficult to read the computer networks text and to understand the meaning of the text. The result of students' book analysis was none of the reading materials appropriate for computer networks department, mostly provided General English. In developing the supplementary English reading materials for computer networks students, there were four stands, in which the current research only applied three out of the four stands, including define, design and developed. This supplementary English reading material helped the computer networks students to learn English based on their need.

Penelitian ini menganalisis tentang persepsi mahasiswa pendidikan guru sekolah dasar atau mahasiswa PGSD terhadap alih kode yang dilakukan dosen EFL di kelas bahasa Inggris dan manfaatnya bagi mereka dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Dengan menggunakan metode campuran, peserta penelitian yang memenuhi syarat menerima kuesioner dan protokol wawancara semi terstruktur yang dilakukan dalam bahasa Indonesia. Data dari kuesioner dianalisis dengan skala Likert dan wawancara semi terstruktur dianalisis dengan analisis tematik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pertama, mahasiswa memiliki persepsi positif terhadap alih kode yang dilakukan dosen di kelas bahasa Inggris. Kedua, manfaat yang diperoleh siswa dari alih kode di kelas bahasa Inggris adalah meningkatkan tingkat penguasaan kapasitas kosakata bahasa Inggris, membantu dalam memahami pelajaran, mempelajari bahasa Inggris dengan lebih baik, membantu memahami tugas mata kuliah, meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris, meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkan bahasa Inggris. Kesimpulannya, alih kode yang digunakan untuk pengajaran bahasa Inggris di kelas telah memberikan dampak yang besar bagi siswa PGSD yang mana sebagian besar siswa menunjukkan persepsi positif terhadap penggunaan alih kode.

This study examines how language politeness strategies are used in simultaneous regional election... more This study examines how language politeness strategies are used in simultaneous regional election debates in Gorontalo Province. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach to language politeness strategies. Data collection were carried out by observation and direct observation by recording the utterances of regional leader candidates in the simultaneous local election debates in Gorontalo Province. Data were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that there are three language politeness strategies in the simultaneous Regional Leader election debates in Gorontalo Province, (1) bold on-record strategies, (2) positive politeness, and (3) negative politeness strategy. It is suggested that politicians are able to understand politeness and language behavior in political campaigns.
