Age at first calving (AFC), first service period (FSP), first calving interval (FCI), first dry period (FDP) and first lactation length (FLL) were considered as auxiliary traits. The data for the present investigation were obtained from Records of 91 cows maintained at Livestock Research Station, Beechwal, Bikaner, over 15 years (2002 to 2016). Sires were evaluated for first lactation milk yield by simple daughter’s average method (D), Contemporary comparison method (CC), least-squares method (LSM), best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP) and by incorporating auxiliary trait. The results revealed that LSM method of sire evaluation was more efficient than all other methods for FLMY. When auxiliary traits were used with FLMY for sire evaluation the error variance was very high for all auxiliary traits. Among the sire indexes...

The phenotypic database of milking Marwari doe (n=29226) regarding body weight and body measurements at birth, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 months and adult age over a period from year 1990 to 2015, was collected from the ICAR sponsored all India coordinated research project on Marwari goat improvement, Bikaner, Rajasthan. Least square analysis using general linear model was carried out to estimate the mean value of different traits under field conditions with due consideration for the effect of season, year and cluster. Body weights of milking doe were predicted through regression equations by linear regression method with body weight as dependent variable and different body measurements as independent variables. Highest coefficient of determination was observed at 9 month age. The study concluded that heart girth and body le...

The information on different body measurements was collected for Marwari bucks (N=4189) maintained under the ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project. Least square analysis was carried out to estimate different traits with due consideration for non-genetic factors. Multiple linear regression models with different combination of parameters were tested to find best fit linear regression equation to explain variation in body weight. The results indicate significant and positive correlation coefficients between live weight and other body characteristics at all stages. Heart girth was observed to be an integral component in all prediction equation. Highest coefficient of determination was observed at 6 month age. The study concluded that body measurements could be effectively utilized to predict the body weight of Marwari bucks.

The aim of present study was to investigate myostatin gene polymorphism and its association with body weight records in Marwari sheep using PCR-SSCP methods. Blood samples were collected from randomly selected Marwari sheep ((n=71), and DNA was extracted using spin column method. Polymerase chain reaction was carried out to amplify 311 bp fragment of intron 2 region of myostatin gene. SSCP analysis showed two different conformations (AA and AB) in intron 2 region of MSTN gene in Marwari sheep and the frequencies of "AA" and "AB" genotypes were observed to be 0.86 (n=61) and 0.14 (n=10), respectively. This locus was not found in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and no significant effect of intron 2 of MSTN gene on body weights was observed.

In order to study and investigate chicken growth hormone gene polymorphism, blood samples were collected from 150 individuals of broiler and Genomic DNA was extracted from whole blood using spin column method as per manufacture protocol with slight modification. The purity of extracted genomic DNA was determined by 0.8% agarose gel electrophoresis. DNA fragment with 776 bp at Chicken growth hormone gene was amplified using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The PCR product was digested with restriction enzyme MspI and subsequently electroforesed on 8% polyacrylamide gel with ethidium bromide. In this population, heterozygosis was estimated 0.28 and obtained genotypes frequency of MspI enzyme on 776 bp fragment for AA, AB and BB genotype were .22, .28, and .50, respectively. The gene frequency of A and B alleles were .39 and .61, respectively.
