This study examined the ability of water fleas Daphnia magna to grow and to control phytoplankton populations in the waters from eutrophic ponds Situ Cikaret and Situ Gunung Putri in Bogor Regency, West Java. Water samples from these water bodies were used to grow the daphnid populations in the styrofoam aquariums without artificial feeding with an initial density of 3.3 individuals/L. The experiment was carried out with three replications. Daphnid population was counted every 4–5 days to observe its growth and development. The chlorophyll content that reflects the phytoplankton biomass at the beginning of the study in the water of Situ Cikaret and Situ Gunung Putri were 52 and 22 μg/L, respectively. The water from fertile ponds allowed the development of phytoplankton populations and be utilized by daphnids to support their growth and reproduction. The results indicated that daphnids showed a preference for s...

Lake Poso is out of 15 national priority lakes in natural resources and environmental management programs. The catch of eel from Lake Poso is reported to have been decreasing for the last twenty years. Several factors causing the decline in eel populations are fishing activities, disruption in migration routes, and other factors such as changes in habitat and environmental conditions. The sustainability of the life of the Poso eel is determined by the success of the eel migration process. The migration of adult eels to the sea and young eels from glass eels to freshwater habitats must continue. The perspective plans that can be done to manage Poso's eel resources include 1) Socializing the eco-biological characteristics of eels as catadromous fish; 2) Establishing conservation areas and regulation of eel fishing; 3) Increasing eel population through restocking 4)...

This study aims to see the abundance of phytoplankton and their relationship with physico-chemical parameters in Lake Tempe. Observations were conducted in March and May 2017 in six zones of the lake, consist of 5 zones are non-permanent areas and 1 zone are permanent area. Dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, turbidity, total dissolved solids, transparency, chlorophyll-a, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus were measured to determine the water quality. Phytoplankton abundance was calculated using the Sedgewick Rafter Method. Phytoplankton community structure was analyzed by Diversity Index, Evenness Index, and Dominance Index. A total of five phyla and 80 species of phytoplankton were found in Lake Tempe, consists of Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta, Dinophyta, and Euglenophyta. The abundance of phytoplankton ranged between 1,133–701,390 individual L−1. Mo...

Phytoplankton Community Relationship with Nutrient Content in the Littoral Areas of Lake Maninjau... more Phytoplankton Community Relationship with Nutrient Content in the Littoral Areas of Lake Maninjau and Ranggeh River, Agam Regency. Phytoplankton in Lake Maninjau is a food source for fish and plankton-eating fish such as Bada fish (Rasbora sp.), Lake Maninjau endemic fish that have high economic value. Nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus would be the limiting factors for phytoplankton growth. This observation aims to determine the composition and abundance of phytoplankton to nutrient content in the littoral areas of Maninjau Lake and Ranggeh River. The observations were conducted on April, July, August, September, October, and November 2018 at several observation stations. The results show that there were phytoplankton groups, ie. Chlorophyta (53 species), Bacillariophyta (35 species), Cyanophyta (six species), Euglenophyta (five species), and Dinophyta (two species). The phytoplankton abundance in Maninjau littoral region ranged from 0.07 x 106 - 5.8 x 106individual.L-1, whi...

This study aimed to reveal phytoplankton community structure related to water quality. Observations were made in May 2021 at seven locations. Ten liters of water were filtered using a plankton net with a mesh size of 53 μm and preserved using Lugol. The parameters observed were the abundance and composition of phytoplankton, dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, turbidity, conductivity, total dissolved solids, and salinity. Phytoplankton community structure was analyzed using the Diversity Index, Evenness Index, and Dominance Index. The phytoplankton found consisted of Bacillaryophyta, Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta, Dinophyta, and Euglenophyta. Bacillaryophyta had more diversity of species than other phyla, with an abundance range from 38–4,037 individuals/L. Station 7 (at Cibereum River) had a different phytoplankton composition, with a higher abunda...
