Resilient State Estimation for Discrete-Time Linear Systems

This paper proposes a resilient state estimator for LTI discrete-time systems. The dynamic equati... more This paper proposes a resilient state estimator for LTI discrete-time systems. The dynamic equation of the system is assumed to be affected by a bounded process noise. As to the available measurements, they are potentially corrupted by a noise of both dense and impulsive natures. In this setting, we construct the estimator as the map which associates to the measurements, the minimizing set of an appropriate (convex) performance function. It is then shown that the proposed estimator enjoys the property of resilience, that is, it induces an estimation error which, under certain conditions, is independent of the extreme values of the (impulsive) measurement noise. Therefore, the estimation error may be bounded while the measurement noise is virtually unbounded. Moreover, the expression of the bound depends explicitly on the degree of observability of the system being observed and on the considered performance function. Finally, a few simulation results are provided to illustrate the resilience property.

The smoothing problem is introduced in an criterion by means of an artificial discontinuity that splits the problem in term of forward and backward filtering problems. Hence, the smoother design is realized in three steps. First, a forward filter is developed. Secondly, a backward filter is developed taking into account the backward Markovian model. The third step consists of combining the two previous steps in order to compute the smoothed estimate. An example shows the efficiency of this proposed smoother.

T... more The present paper deals with deconvolution for linear systems within a discrete time framework. The originality of the work stands in the integration of both a filtering step and a level constraint (positivity constraint) within the estimation algorithm. After setting the structure of the filter, an iterative scheme based on Lagrange multipliers optimization technique is developed. The regularized optimization criterion is based on the fit to filtered data principle, the positive signal to be restored is considered as the square of an exogenous unconstrained signal. En particulier, diverses methodes ont ete developpees dans le cadre de l'optimisation H2, certaines s'appuyant sur des techniques de filtrage de Kalman ou de Wiener [1], d'autres sur des techniques issues de la commande optimale [9]. Certaines techniques de deconvolution utilisant un estimateur de Kalman ont l'inconvenient de dephaser le signal reconstruit par rapport a l'original. Afin de palier a cet inconvenient, le probleme de la deconvolution peut etre alors considere sous un aspect lissage H2 ou de nombreux algorithmes ont ete definis [2, 3, 7]. A l'instar de U. Shaked [8], nous proposons ici une demarche analogue dans le cadre H∞. However, the optical turbulence in the atmosphere damages the resolution of the images provided by the ground-based telescopes. In order to combine high sensitivity and angular resolution large ground-based telescopes are nowadays associated with adaptive optics systems (OA)[1]. OA must provide real-time correction of the atmospherical perturbation thanks to a servo-loop system including at least one wavefront sensor (AFO), a controller and one deformable mirror (MD) to apply the compensation, as illustrated by figure 1. The OA design must evolve for the future telescopes with mirror diameters of several tenths of meters planned for 2017. In the present paper, we propose an approach to the problem of deconvolution in presence of model... more In the present paper, we propose an approach to the problem of deconvolution in presence of model uncertainty based on the polynomial representation of linear discrete-time system. The basic idea consists in introducing the gradient of the estimation error with respect to the model uncertainty into a Minimum Variance (MV) criterion. The new criterion is a weighted sum of the MV and the variance of the gradient of the estimation error. The development is given for model uncertainties described in a polynomial or in a parametric form. The inverse filter is obtained by means of spectral factorization and a Diophantine equation.

This paper presents the heating demand evaluation by means of regression models obtained from a p... more This paper presents the heating demand evaluation by means of regression models obtained from a parametrical study of dynamic simulations data. The aim of these models is to be used by architects or design engineers as support tools in the very first stage of the building design and also in thermal rehabilitation of new or existing constructions. These models are based on five input parameters, among them the building shape factor, climate coefficient or south equivalent surface. Compared to the dynamic simulations results, a maximum error of 7% is observed for all the validation cases. Probably the most important advantage of the models is that parametric studies could be done in a fast way compared to a simulation analysis. They could be used to make comparison between different energy reduction strategies, like improving the insulation levels or increasing the thermal inertia. Ce papier aborde une classe de problemes de controle robuste en boucle ouverte pour des systemes discrets incertains. L'incertitude est representee au moyen de transformations lineaires fractionnelles (LFT) et peut etre composee de differentes incertitudes (parametriques, dynamiques, non-linearites,etc...). Il est demontre que la synthese d'un filtre garantissant un certain niveau de performance pour le systeme Boucle Ouverte peut se mettre sous la forme d'un probleme d'optimisation convexe sous contraintes inegalite matricielles lineaires, qui peut etre resolu efficacement.

The problem is set in a λ-contaminated framework that does not required a model for the uncertainties. The results are presented in term of transfer function and in polynomials. The latter representation exhibits two spectral factors and a Diophantine equation in order to obtain the estimator. An example shows the effectiveness of the approach.

Multi-criteria decision analysis of multi-source systems and renewable energy integrationIn this ... more Multi-criteria decision analysis of multi-source systems and renewable energy integrationIn this article, an original scientific approach of using a multi-criteria decision analysis is applied to multi-source systems and choice of the optimal alternative based on several criterions. The multi-criteria decision support methodology concept is described (ELECTRE III) and then applied for an example. The decision support algorithm has its bases on the developed models and makes the outranking of solutions possible. It is also shown that multi-criteria analysis can provide a technical-scientific decision making support that is capable to justify the clearly rank of the alternatives in the renewable energy sector. The use of multicriteria decision aid for assessing the multi-source systems showed encouraging results. There were obtained interesting insights and allowed a better view of the decisional process.

Recently [1], a H ∞ smoother has been developed and it gives good results for noise uncertainties... more Recently [1], a H ∞ smoother has been developed and it gives good results for noise uncertainties. Nevertheless, when appear uncertain parameters, its performances decrease significantly. That's why, in this paper, an estimator robust to noise uncertain properties and parameter uncertainties is presented. As in [1, 4, 6], the robust H ∞ smoother for uncertain systems is developed as a combination of two robust H ∞ filters. The robust performances, for both noise and parameter uncertainties, of this new approach are evaluated on a simple example.
