Isogeometric analysis is a popular method for the analysis of problems involving complex geometry... more Isogeometric analysis is a popular method for the analysis of problems involving complex geometry and governed by differential equations. Meta-heuristics are widely used to determine the optimum distribution of material within the given design domain. The focus of this study is to perform isogeometric topology optimization of continuum structures using meta-heuristics nature inspired firefly algorithm. NURBS basis functions are used to construct the geometric model and to calculate the displacements as well. In this paper, a two dimensional plate structure is modeled using NURBS basis functions and analyzed for the given loading and boundary conditions. ESO technique is used to identify the elements which carry the material and penalize the remaining elements which do not carry any stress. Few examples have been solved and the results are presented. The results clearly show that the distribution of material using isogeometric analysis is similar to the distribution of material using FEA.

Therefore, the oxygen volume fraction is due to oxygen enrichment or nitrogen dilution. The study of the impact of controlling the oxygen concentration on the combustion characteristics and emissions was performed at 1 400 rpm, at several loads (Indicated Mean Effective Pressure (IMEP) from 400 to 1 000 kPa). For each operation point, the spark advance and the intake pressure were adjusted simultaneously in order to maintain the load and obtain a minimum value of the indicated Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC). The effect of the oxygen concentration on the engine combustion characteristics was simulated by using the commercial software AMESim, with the combustion model developed by IFP Energies nouvelles, and an adapted algorithm was used to avoid residual gas calibration. By implementing a correlation for the laminar burning velocity, the in-cylinder pressures were perfectly predicted with a maximum pressure relative error of less than 2% for almost all the operating points. The classification of engine combustion according to the Peters-Borghi diagram, gives a deeper insight into the interaction between turbulence and the flame front.

Researchers all over the globe are finding an alternative for this problem. One best alterative have been identified is the use of biodiesels with the existing engine operating conditions. In this study Pongamia biodiesel is considered due to its availability in abundance at the southern parts of India. The properties of Pongamia biodiesel are in line with the diesel to use in the existing engine. The impact of engine operating conditions wise Compression ratio, Injection Pressure and Injection Timing are varied for the optimized blend of B20. The results are compared with standard engine configuration with base line fuel. The compression ratio 16, Injection Pressure 210 bar and Injection timing 21 bTDC have produced better results when compared with standard results.

Both the performance and exhaust analysis were carried out to find the best suited compression ratio. Tests have been carried out at 7 different compression ratios viz.13.2, 13.9, 14.8, 15.7, 16.9, 18.1 and 20.2. All the experiments were carried out at standard test conditions like 70 0 c cooling water temperature and at constant speed of 1500 rpm. The results shows that 15.7 is the best compression ratio with Mahua oil. All the results were obtained without any modifications on either engine side or fuel side.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between the mechanical properties and the attenuation coefficient of ultrasonic testing. For experimental tests we have selected EN-19 steel as reference. EN-19 steel is subjected to four different isothermal aging at a temperature of 700 0 C and an original specimen respectively. For these specimens tensile tests, hardness test, impact tests and ultrasonic tests were performed. Attenuation coefficients of ultrasonic testing were determined using Pulse-Echo ultrasonic test. A good analysis and estimation between mechanical properties and attenuation coefficient was found.

The selected engine is made to run at rated speed and varying loads. All the readings were taken while maintaining the cooling water exit temperature at its optimum value. The results showed a better performance with the engine at an injection pressure of 200 bar and Injection timing 110 BTDC.

It can be converted into oil through the pyrolysis process and utilised in internal combustion engines to produce power and heat. In the present work, plastic pyrolysis oil is manufactured via a fast pyrolysis process using a feedstock consisting of different types of plastic. The oil was analysed and it was found that its properties are similar to diesel fuel. The plastic pyrolysis oil was tested on a four-cylinder direct injection diesel engine running at various blends of plastic pyrolysis oil and diesel fuel from 0% to 100% at different engine loads from 25% to 100%. The engine combustion characteristics, performance and exhaust emissions were analysed and compared with diesel fuel operation. The results showed that the engine is able to run on plastic pyrolysis oil at high loads presenting similar performance to diesel while at lower loads the longer ignition delay period causes stability issues. The brake thermal efficiency for plastic pyrolysis oil at full load was slightly lower than diesel, but NO X emissions were considerably higher. The results suggested that the plastic pyrolysis oil is a promising alternative fuel for certain engine application at certain operation conditions.

Azotobacter vinelandiiinoculated with PVP (4%) promoted highest cell population followed by gum arabica (0.5%) and sodium alginate (0.2%). The results of the present study clearly indicated that the 4% PVP probably gave higher cell population than other additives.

Due to their high thermal efficiency and better fuel economy now a days diesel engines are gaining much importance. Due to ever increasing need for transportation and industrial growth, the use of diesel engine has increased exponentially in the last decade. In the present context of fossil fuel crisis, the importance of alternative fuel research for Diesel engines needs no emphasis. Methyl esters of Pongamia oil can be used as alternative fuels to diesel since their properties are very close to diesel fuel, they are also renewable. In the present work, experiments have been carried out to assess the suitability of methyl esters of Pongamia Oil as fuel in a diesel engine. In the present investigation a computer based a single cylinder 4-stroke water cooled diesel engine diesel engine was used at a constant speed of 1500 rpm with eddy current dynamometer. The methyl ester of Pongamia Oil is used in the present investigation are mixed with diesel with different proportions (B00, B20, B40, B60, B80 and B100) as fuel in the diesel engine.

It was confirmed that this molecule exists in the two rotational isomers "cis" and "gauche". In the cis form, both a- and b-type transitions were assigned and the rotational constants in the ground vibrational state were calculated to be A = 11 323.01 + 0.08 MHz, B = 3739.20 ± 0.01 MHz, C = 2858.52 ± 0.01 MHz. The molecular dipole-moment components are μa = 3.26 ± 0.01 D, μb = 2.16 ± 0.05 D, and μt = 3.91 ± 0.03 D. For the gauche form, the a-type transitions were assigned and the rotational constants in the ground vibrational state are A = 17 295 MHz, B = 2619.91 ± 0.1 MHz, C = 2497.52 ± 0.1 MHz. The Stark effect measurement in this case gave the components of the dipole moment as μa = 3.69 ± 0.02 D, ub = 1.11 ± 0.06 D, μc = 0.98 ± 0.07 D, and μt = 3.98 ± 0.03 D.
