Onos Bagnickaitės japoniškųjų graviūrų kolekcijos tyrinėjimas

It is currently kept in “Aušros” Museum in Šiauliai and Balys Sruoga’s Memorial House-Museum in Kaunas. The collection of the Japanese woodblock prints belonging to Ona Bagnickaitė, a tapestry designer who was famous before the war, was transferred together with the inventory of other manors without any records to the LSSR museums in 1940. The paper mentions iconographic research of the collection carried out in the 1960s; however, it mainly focuses on the personality of the artist who collected the prints as well as technological studies of these works recently conducted by researchers and restorers of the Lithuanian Art Museum and Pranas Gudynas Centre for Restoration. Basing on the works of Margaret Miller Kanada and Timothy Barrett, we explored the paper that prints were made on and how it was prepared for printing. With regard to the results of these studies, ...

Investigation of Historical Analogues and Sol-Gel Preparation of Novel Inorganic Cobalt-Based Pigments
X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), infrared (IR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy hav... more X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), infrared (IR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy have been used for the characterization of cobalt-based pigments (Kremer Pigmente) and their lead-based glazes. It was also demonstrated that XRD analysis could be successfully used for the identification of cobalt pigments cobalt violet brilliant light CoNH4PO4•H2O, cobalt blue light, cerulean blue, cobalt green bluish CoO·ZnO in their glazes. However, only non-oxide cobalt pigments cobalt yellow [K3(Co(NO2)6]•3H2O, cobalt violet brilliant light and cobalt violet dark Co3(PO4)2 could be determined in their glazes using IR spectroscopy. The similarity of all SEM images of cobalt-based glazes let us to conclude, that the main morphological features of glazes are not dependent on the nature of cobalt pigment. The single phase cobalt violet light brilliant pigment has been synthesized using a simple co-precipitation approach. The characteristics of the obtained product were compared with those...

Influence of technological and historical characteristics of wax seals for their restoration
There are few professionals who make research on the development of kinds, constructions and use ... more There are few professionals who make research on the development of kinds, constructions and use of historical wax seals. The situation in Europe is similar. It is determined by the fact that the society and even historians were ignoring wax seals as a separate group of cultural heritage objects for a long time and there never have been many scholars entirely devoted to sphragistics. There also is a lack for wider context studies. Answers to some questions of historical technology of wax seal making are usually found by the experienced restorers examining broken and differently damaged historical wax seals. This article deals with the principles of wax seal making and restoration, some remarks that have changed the thinking about technologies of seal making are presented. There are the main kinds of seals, their production, forms and materials, ways of impression making, the most typical damages and process of their restoration discussed in this article. The article also deals with ...

The metal ions, generated by dissolving starting materials of metals in the diluted acetic acid were complexed by 1,2-ethanediol to obtain the precursors for the mixed metal ceramics. The phase purity of the synthesized compounds was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction analysis and infrared spectroscopy. The microstructural evolution and morphological features of the products were studied by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy, which together with the optical characterization of these new compounds showed that the sol-gel-derived materials could be successfully used as effective cobalt-based ceramic pigments.
