Medical image processing algorithms significantly affect the precision of disease diagnostic proc... more Medical image processing algorithms significantly affect the precision of disease diagnostic process. This makes it crucial to improve the quality of a medical image with the goal to enhance perceivability of the points of interest in order to obtain accurate diagnosis of a patient. Despite the reliance of various medical diagnostics on utilize X-rays, they are usually plagued by dark and low contrast properties. Sought-after details in X-rays can only be accessed by means of digital image processing techniques, despite the fact that these techniques are far from being perfect. In this paper, we implement a wavelet decomposition and reconstruction technique to enhance radiograph properties, some of which include contrast and noise, by using a series of morphological erosion and dilation to improve the visual quality of the chest radiographs for the detection of cancer nodules.

Consequently, important medical information may be degraded or completely masked. Advanced medical diagnostics and pathological analysis utilize information obtained from medical images. Consequently, the best techniques must be applied to capture, compress, store, retrieve and share these images. Recently, the wavelet transform technique has been applied to enhance and compress medical images. This review focuses on the trends of wavelet-based medical image processing techniques. A summary of the application of wavelets to enhance and compress medical images such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), and X-ray is provided. Morphological techniques such as closing, thinning and pruning are combined with wavelets methods to extract the features from the medical images.

In this paper, we have provided the threshold condition for an outbreak of the disease that is ch... more In this paper, we have provided the threshold condition for an outbreak of the disease that is characterized by equal birth/death rate and proportion of vaccinated population subjects. Our result mimics the essential features of the disease and provides valuable insights into epidemiological process. Our work unvails no periodic nature of acquisition of measles, mumps and rubella diseases. However, we have used sensitivity analysis to show that administering of vaccine on every unit of population subjects does not imply permanent immunity. The system is characterized by two equilibrium states which become local asymptotically stable when certain biological parameters are controlled. The disease equilibrium state is global asymptotically stable if the proportion of susceptible is greater or equal to proportion of infectives. Also, it is stable (global) when the sum of birth/death rate and recovery rate is greater or equal to the product of transmission rate and susceptible proportion.

The volume and velocity of the data within many systems makes it difficult to detect and process anomalies for Big Data in real-time. Many anomaly detective systems count on the historical data for detecting behaviors’. Considering it as a problem to financial institutions in Ghana, the researcher proposed robust anomaly detection framework. The proposed frame work defines Spark stream, as part of Spark ecosystem, which stream data in real-time. Also, the proposed framework data model was build using SVM, Linear regression and Logistic regression as a package found in Spark MLlib. Additionally, the proposed framework was explained clearly to be implemented in real systems for financial institutions.

The study is made up of two sections. An SIR model without vaccination is used to explain the spread of the HBV in the Bosomtwe district followed by the modeling HB with vaccination in the district. 3344 Isaac Kwasi Adu et al. The model has two equilibrium states: the disease-free equilibrium and the endemic equilibrium states respectively. The stability condition of each equilibrium point is discussed. The basic reproductive number () of HB without vaccination is estimated to be 1.006 and the basic reproductive number () of HB with vaccination is estimated to be 0.9840. Our work shows that, the proportion of the population of Bosomtwe district that needs to be vaccinated in order to control HBV in the district is 871. According to the results of this study, whenever the transmission rate parameter value is increased, but when the transmission rate parameter value is reduced,. A combination of increased vaccination of newborns and immunization of susceptible adults appears to reduce HB prevalence in Bosomtwe District to the minimum.

Among the various channel geometries which have been used to represent the acetylcholine receptor channel include the cylinder and the toroidal catenary. The main reasons for those choices appear to be the facilitation of separation of the Poisson equation, rather than biological considerations. We consider a novel and realistic acetylcholine channel geometry, and calculate the electrostatic potential profiles within it, and compare our results with results from other channel geometries.

The concentration of acetylcholine (ACh) in the synaptic cleft at the neuromuscular junction (NMJ... more The concentration of acetylcholine (ACh) in the synaptic cleft at the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) remains impossible to quantify using direct measurements based upon spatio-temporal resolution. We present a model of the concentration of ACh in the synaptic cleft. Our model considers the release mechanism and the clearance process, represented by the hydrolysis of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and the rate of diffusion across the cleft and binding to nicotinic ACh receptor channels. Using our model, we evaluate the contribution of these factors and their relative importance in determining the spatial distribution of neurotransmitter concentration in the neuromuscular junction.

Using molecular dynamics, we trace the trajectories of sodium and potassium ions as they permeate the ACh receptor channel for the given geometry: the hyperboloid of one sheet. We estimate the formidable energy barrier that a sodium or potassium ion traversing the ACh channel encounters. The potential profile obtained from the simulations reveals a number of salient features of the ACh channel.

The drinking behaviours of college students have posed significant public health concerns for sev... more The drinking behaviours of college students have posed significant public health concerns for several generations. However, the dynamics of campus drinking have not been analysed using mathematical models. An epidemiological model capturing the dynamics of campus drinking is used to study how the 'disease' of drinking is spread on campus. The model suggests that the reproductive numbers are not sufficient to predict whether drinking behaviour will persist on campus and that the pattern of recruiting new members plays a significant role in the reduction of campus alcohol problems. In particular, campus alcohol abuse may be reduced by minimizing the ability of problem drinkers to directly recruit non-drinkers.

The DRM includes a positive integer scaler that homogenizes the inhomogeneous boundary deflection in the Helmholtz equation's Cauchy issue. This guarantees the existence and uniqueness of the equation's solution. To reestablish the stability of the regularized Helmholtz equation and regularized Cauchy boundary conditions, the DRM uses its regularization term ð1 + α 2m Þe m , where α > 0 is the regularization parameter. As a result, DRM restores all three Hadamard requirements for well-posedness.

In view of these goals, the institutions generate large volumes of data on profile data, purchase and browsing history and social media data daily. In recent times, businesses have increased the volume of data they process and analyze and this comes at a high computational cost in its analysis. Due to the high increase in the volume of data, most institutions are moving away from the measure of the data volume by volume and considering other parameters. The additional parameters of interest to support evaluation of systems-enabled strategy include variety and velocity. My motivated to design and employ techniques that will stem from both approaches to designing a more hybrid approach which will perform better and also moderate in terms of computational cost.

We show that, for a large susceptible population, the transient distribution for the recovery compartment does not follow the usual a hyperbolic curve for a small population, but rather an exponential function. In addition, we show that the function for the recovered population has two equilibrium points which have characteristics of transcritical bifurcation.
