The reconfiguration methodology adopted in this paper is based on supervisory control theory (SCT), and it is triggered following sensor fault detection. The lost information about these sensors is replaced by timed information allowing the MS to continue its operations. The switch from a normal behavior to a degraded behavior when a sensor fault appears is ensured by reconfiguration rules. The main objective of our framework is to implement the obtained control into a PLC. To meet this objective, the distributed controllers of the two operating modes as well as the reconfiguration rules are interpreted into different Grafcet models. The implementation of these different models is verified by a checker-model technique before being tested on a digital twin and validated on a real MS.

Methodology for Railway Automation Study and Automatic Generation of PLC Programs

This approach was developed within an industrial thesis, financed by the SNCF (French acronym for National Society of French Railways) in association with the CReSTIC (Research Center in Information and Communication Science and Technologies), laboratory of university of Reims Champagne-Ardenne. It consists of two axes of improvement. The first one concerns the standardization and automatic generation of deliverables (wiring diagrams, PLC programs...) established initially by the systems engineers. Therefore these latter will avoid repetitive tasks which can lead to mental underload and then, focus their attention on cognitive tasks. The second axe of the proposed methodology consists in integrating a robust filter based on the use of safety constraints in a PLC program, so that the safety of the system can be ensured whatever the functional program. Thus, this solution guarantees safety without changing the know-how of the systems engineers. This paper presents only the first axe of the proposed methodology.

It permit to take into account the specificity of the light rail lines operation and to evaluate the robustness of a timetable by including the driver and traffic controller's behavior. Whether he is at the commands of his train or at line management, the main actor in railway operation is the human operator. His behavior deserves to be included with precision in the theoretical studies. We demonstrate the importance to have a reliable model of the driver behavior on case with a specific operation.

This structure is composed on the use of a set of local diagnosers, each one of them is responsible of a specific part of the plant. These local diagnosers are based on a modular modelling of the plant in order to reduce the state explosion. Each local diagnoser uses event-based, state based and timed models to take a decision about fault's occurrences. These models are obtained using the information provided by the plant, the controller and the actuators reactivity. All local diagnosis decisions are then merged by a Boolean operator in order to obtain one global diagnosis decision. Finally, the diagnosers are polynomial-time in the cardinality of the state space of the system. This approach is illustrated using an example of manufacturing system.

Decentralized diagnosis based on Boolean discrete event models: application on manufacturing systems
International Journal of Production Research, 2008

The occurrence of any fault entailing the violation of the desired behaviour must be detected and isolated by at least one local diagnoser using its own local observation about the system execution. These local diagnosers infer the fault's occurrence using event sequences, time delays between correlated events and state conditions, characterized by sensors readings and commands issued by the controller. A very limited communication among diagnosers is permitted through a simple coordinator based on a set of rules. The goal is to solve the problem of diagnosis's decision ambiguity due to the partial observation of diagnosers. An adapted codiagnosability notion is formally defined in order to ensure that the set of local diagnosers is able to diagnose all faults entailing the violation of the desired behaviour within a bounded delay. We show that the construction of these diagnosers is polynomial in the size of the system. An example is used to illustrate the proposed approach.

This approach considers a system as a set of independent Plant Elements (PEs). Each PE is composed of a set of interrelated Parts of Plant (PoPs) modeled by a Moore automaton. Each PoP model is only aware of its local behavior. The degraded and faulty behaviors are added to each PoP model in order to obtain extended PoP ones. An extrapolation of Gaussian learning is realized to obtain acceptable temporal intervals between the time occurrences of correlated events. Finally based on the PoP extended models and the links between them, a fault candidates' tree is established for each plant element. This candidates' tree corresponds to a local on-line fault event occurrence observer, called diagnoser. Thus, the diagnosis decision is distributed on each plant element. An application example is used to illustrate the approach.

Not all the systems are diagnosable. Thus, before Appling a method to diagnose a system, we need to know if this system is diagnosable according to the set of failures required to be detected and isolated. This paper presents an algorithm to determine if a system is detectable or not, i.e., if we can know, at each instant, whether the system works under a normal or abnormal functioning state. In the case that the system is detectable, this algorithm determines if this system is diagnosable. This algorithm combines event and state based approaches in order to maximise the diagnosability power with a minimum number of sensors. In addition, the time is integrated and modelled with fuzzy intervals to enhance this diagnosabilty power and to take into account the imprecision of events occurrences instants. An example of manufacturing system is used to illustrate the functioning of this algorithm.
