(A). (Voir fiche generale 132482).

This paper presents the background and the results of the development and the practical experience acquired in real time jobs with this new technology.

Two geotextiles were placed at the interface between the base layer and the subgrade. The results allowed the estimation of reinforcement efficiency. In addition, a numerical model coupled between the discrete element method and the finite element method has been calibrated based on the experimental results.
Field measurements in a partly submerged woven geotextile-reinforced pile-supported embankment

This design guideline adopted the Concentric Arches model (Van Eekelen et al, 2013, 2015). The validated application of this model is limited to GRPS embankments whose geometry and materials meet the conditions of the field cases and experiments used for the validation of the Concentric Arches model. This means for example that: the whole embankment should be located above the groundwater table and that at least one geogrid layer should be used as reinforcement. If these requirements are not met, additional measurements are requested by CUR226 to demonstrate that the system comes within the framework of the guideline. This paper presents and discusses field measurements that were therefore conducted in a partially submerged GRPS embankment. The embankment was reinforced with two layers woven geotextile and no geogrid. It was concluded that the Concentric Arc...

ABSTRACT -To investigate the benefits obtained from inclusion of geosynthetic layer in unpaved roads, non-reinforced and geosynthetic reinforced platforms were built in a largescale box and tested under cyclic vertical loads. Two geotextiles were placed at the interface between the base layer and the subgrade. The results allowed the estimation of reinforcement efficiency.

(A). Soil Substitute Reinforced by Geosynthetics: Qualification of the Effect by Numerical Modelling

This article presents a comparative numerical study of various geometric configurations: an unreinforced deformable foundation soil, a deformable foundation soil reinforced by one or more flexible reinforcement sheets such as geosynthetics, and the substitution of a deformable foundation soil layer by a stiff soil layer. Only the reinforcement function of the geosynthetic inclusions is examined. It is shown that, in spite of a few differences in the unprocessed results, the two applications used lead to the same conclusions: the geosynthetics are under fairly low stress under low loading conditions and only allow an actual reduction in settlement for heavy loads. The thickness of the substitute layer (and the type of material used) is the main parameter involved in reducing settlement, with...

EnglishGeosynthetics have proved their effectiveness in reinforcing the base of embankments constructed over areas prone to foundation void formation. Numerous research programmes and the experience gained on real projects, particularly under railway lines, have led to verified and optimised design methods. As a result of this experience, the use of geosynthetic reinforcement to counteract soil subsidence on several sections of the new high-speed railways links crossing several countries in Europe appeared as the best answer. This solution is low in cost compared with injection or collapse. Moreover, it falls under logic of sustainable development because it has no effect on subsoil water movement, in contrast to traditional solutions. This paper details the design procedure following the Eurocode 7 approach and describes the installation of the high-strength geosynthetic used for this railway section.
Set up of a warning system integrated inside a reinforced geotextile for the survey of railway

Additionally, it was decided to install a new warning system called " Geodetect " , which combines reinforcement and strain measurement, in order to check his behaviour on real site condition. Particularly, the resistance during installation and the level of strain measured during the traffic were the main parameters to be followed. Considering the geometry of the structure and the various loads, the reinforcement part of the geosynthetic was designed to allow the respect the surface settlement criterions. The optical sensors network was designed to optimize the number of sensors and to ensure the detection by a minimum of one sensor. To not disturb the traffic of the trains in the daytim...
