Various dijet production cross section ratios are also measured. A veto on additional jets with pT> 20 GeV is introduced to improve the sensitivity to the effects of the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) evolution. The measurement is compared with the predictions of various Monte Carlo models based on leading-order and next-to-leading-order calculations including the Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi leading-logarithm (LL) parton shower as well as the LL BFKL resummation.

A total of Sixty four fruit orchards growers were interviewed on the basis of land acquisition. Data indicates that farmer areas for citrus and planted Stone fruit such as peach, plum and apricot were declined in the last 10 years while the area under pear and loquat were increased. The study results also indicate that a number of factors were affecting fruit orchards. These problems were ranked as (1) diseases/insects, followed by (2) high price, (3) water shortage problem, (4) adulteration in inputs, (5) marketing problem and (6) non-availability of credit. It is concluded that various factors are responsible for the decline in production of fruit orchards. It is thus, recommended that agriculture department should regularly disseminate technical-know-how regarding im...

Chikungunya disease (CHIKD) is a viral infection caused by an alphavirus, chikungunya virus (CHIK... more Chikungunya disease (CHIKD) is a viral infection caused by an alphavirus, chikungunya virus (CHIKV), and triggers large outbreaks leading to epidemics. Despite the low mortality rate, it is a major public health concern owing to high morbidity in affected individuals. The complete spectrum of this disease can be divided into four phases based on its clinical presentation and immunopathology. When a susceptible individual is bitten by an infected mosquito, the bite triggers inflammatory responses attracting neutrophils and initiating a cascade of events, resulting in the entry of the virus into permissive cells. This phase is termed the pre-acute or the intrinsic incubation phase. The virus utilizes the cellular components of the innate immune system to enter into circulation and reach primary sites of infection such as the lymph nodes, spleen, and liver. Also, at this point, antigen-presenting cells (APCs) present the viral antigens to the T cells thereby activating and initiating adaptive immune responses. This phase is marked by the exhibition of clinical symptoms such as fever, rashes, arthralgia, and myalgia and is termed the acute phase of the disease. Viremia reaches its peak during this phase, thereby enhancing the antigen-specific host immune response. Simultaneously, T cell-mediated activation of B cells leads to the formation of CHIKV specific antibodies. Increase in titres of neutralizing IgG/IgM antibodies results in the clearance of virus from the bloodstream and marks the initiation of the post-acute phase. Immune responses mounted during this phase of the infection determine the degree of disease progression or its resolution. Some patients may progress to a chronic arthritic phase of the disease that may last from a few months to several years, owing to a compromised disease resolution. The present review discusses the immunopathology of CHIKD and the factors that dictate disease progression and its resolution.

Statistical tests support use of the sample selection system estimator over more conventional estimation procedures. Results indicate that household size, location of residence, ethnicity, age, education, and income are closely associated with patterns of household expenditures for fresh, frozen, and processed meats. Several observations are noted regarding determinants of purchase likelihoods and expenditure patterns for meat in Malaysia.

Growth of urban towns in Malaysia / Dr. Hj. Abdul Rahman Hasan and Prema Letha Nair

The shift from agricultural to an industrial based economy has inevitably led to rapid physical, social and economic changes. The impact of urban spatial transformation accentuated the growth in the number of urban towns; urban centres increasing in size and expansion of major towns outwards to sprawl into peripheries. This paper highlights the growth of urban towns in Malaysia based on the data available from the 1970, 1980, 1991, 2000 and 2010 Population and Housing Censuses. The data reveals a surge of growth in number from 72 towns in 1980 to 228 towns in 2010. The increase in the growth of urban centres and the urbanization process is the result of spatial transformation, demographic phenomenon and various government measures for a measureable balanced development.

Association between ingestion of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and the emergence of aphthous-like ulcers

A total of 150 subjects were included in this study. The study group consisted of 75 subjects who presented with clinical signs of aphthous-like ulcers. The control group consisted of 75 subjects with no clinical signs or history of oral ulcers. All subjects were clinically examined and received a questionnaire which included a history of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs intake. The results of this study demonstrated a possible relationship between aphthous-like ulcers and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs intake. There was a statistically significant increase in the prevalence of the ulcers in subjects taking NSAIDs (p <0.0001). Physicians and dentists may need to investigate the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs with patients diagnosed with aphthous-like ulcers and may require them to reduce or stop the use of these medications or change the...

A total of 40 subjects were included in this study. Group 1 consisted of 20 subjects taking amphetamines and attending the dental clinic at Children's Hospital of Buffalo and The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. These subjects were not taking phenytoin, cyclosporine, or calcium channel blockers. Patients with cardiovascular or hormonal disorders were excluded from the study. The information obtained from patients' parents or legal guardians were: (1) the time when the patient started taking the medication; (2) how often the patient took the medication per day; and (3) the medication's dosage. Gingival and plaque indices were also measured to assess gingival health. The Silness and Löe plaque index and modified gingival index were used. A second group of 20 healthy subjects not taking any medications was used as a control group. Gingival enla...
