In this regard Web based learning has evolved as a popular tool as the popularity of internet is increasing everyday. This paper discusses the importance of WBL in LIS education, its requirements, the advantages and disadvantages of WBL. Also put foreword a model of WBL and the skills required for WBL. Some examples of WBL Environment in LIS Education in India have also been cited.

A total of 2,725 citations appended to 27 LIS doctoral theses examined for bibliographic forms, authorship pattern, and their collaboration level, chronological-wise distribution, the applicability of Bradford's law, rank-wise list, core journal list, country-wise list. The study finds that journals are the most cited resources, followed by books. Single-authored works are found dominant in both journal and book citations. The country-wise distribution of journals reveals that 412 citations (38.52%) were from India, followed by the UK with 275 citations (25.74%) and the USA with 271 citations (25.37%).

It also emphasized on the weeding out policy of the University libraries as it was the key element of library space management. Methods: For this study, both qualitative and quantitative approach for data collection had been used. A structured questionnaire was prepared and sent to the head of the libraries for collecting relevant information and personal interview with the librarians had also been done. For collecting proper measurement of the spaces, physical verification of the libraries was also carried out. Results: The finding showed that the libraries had efficiently utilized its spaces and adopt...

It highlighted the various physical, environmental security systems as well as digital data security systems that were adopted for library security purpose. The study also examined how far these libraries had implemented various electronic security systems like CCTV, RFID, air-conditioner for humidity control, smart card, biometrics, flood detector, fire or smoke sensor etc. Methods: For the study, total six University libraries had been purposively selected by considering the possible availability of various security measures. A structured questionnaire was prepared for collecting relevant information. To collect more information, personal interview including telephonic conversation and direct observation had also been done. Results: Finding showed that the academic libraries efficiently adopted and implemented both traditional or manual and technological or digital data security systems even though they had suffered from some technological or financial constraints. Adoption of an effective security plan was the primary key to secure the library resources from theft. Majority of the libraries had its institutional security plan so that these libraries could follow them accordingly. Conclusion: As time changed, the procedures for securing library resources very much difficult and with technological advancement, the libraries should opt for electronic or digital data security systems. Though the initial investment in such electronic security systems would be high, but in long run, it would provide better results as well as cost-effective for the libraries.

Fine arts and performing arts library specialize in collecting items relating to any faction of the art including music, poetry, sculpture, painting, theatre, dance, film and recorded sound etc. Scope: This study is confined to the libraries of the institute of the fine arts in Delhi, the capital city of India, which are approved and funded by the concerned government. The authors performed a case study to discover the current statues of the libraries of the institute of fine arts in Delhi. The study finds that the libraries of the institute of fine arts in Delhi are enriched not only by the collection of printed and non-printed materials but also by art objects. The collection developments works of these libraries of the institute of fine arts are done mainly through purchase and receiving donated books. For development of the library collection they have book selection committee and book purchase committee. It is found that less numbers of libraries have wedding out policy. The study reveals that most of the libraries are doing re-binding for preservation. The interest in participating library network and consortium is found to be stronger. Originality: This paper identifies weaknesses in current practices and offers some suggestions. This is about an original initiative undertaken to develop a set of core values.

Bookmarking tools like delicious, twitter, flickr, connotea, etc are very popular and useful regarding the use of internet and web resources in a systematic and scientific way. It integrates and accurate the unlimited data and explosive information over internet and World Wide Web in a very controlled manner. This paper explains the various aspects of tagging and social bookmarking and the practical experiences in modern library services in the digital era.

But in the current Web2.0 era, this citation based evaluation process often do not include the generic discussions people make in social media, blogs, online scholarly discussion forums or even the online readership of the article. Altmetrics, often referred as the article level metrics is a tool that have emerged, which crowd source all the non-citation based discussions from various web2.0 platforms and tries to reflect the overhaul attention that an article gets. Since its introduction, altmetrics have been able to gather a good attention from the scientific community, and researchers are trying to evaluate if it does have scholarly value to complement the citation based impact measure process. The current study tries to evaluate altmetrics penetration in Indian research articles and the influence of altmetrics in the citation growth process. The problem was addressed taking the example of Indian research articles published in PLoS journals. Two hypothesis were set for the study and PLoS altmetrics data were taken to run the t-test for paired sample mean to test the hypothesis. Findings from the t-test estimated a low significant p value, hence rejecting the null hypothesis and accepting the alternate hypothesis proving the positive influence of altmetrics in the citation growth process for the Indian research articles in PLoS journals. Also the presence of altmetrics data in the Indian research articles of PLoS journals is evaluated in the study.

SJR is a prestige based measure where the scholarly value of incoming citations matters most than its quantity, while h-index is a quantity based measure where the amount of incoming citations plus the number of published paper both matters. The current study tries to identify how the ranking value of journals changes when compared with the two indicators. The issue was addressed by taking the context of Indian journals indexed in Scopus. Even though the process of calculation for both the indicators is different, it is expected that their ultimate result is same i.e. ranking quality journals at top. The findings of ranking of quality journals represent strikingly different result given by both the indices. The dissimilarity in measure is tested using z-test for two sample means for median difference. Also the biasness of the indicators towards time and subject domains is tested on a raw count.

Ontologies provide a cushion for such practices in the semantic Web environment. This study aims to develop an ontology that can preserve the knowledge base of traditional dance practices.Design/methodology/approachIt is hypothesized that an ontology-based approach for the chosen domain might boost collaborative research prospects in the domain. A systematic methodology was developed for modeling the ontology based on the analytico-synthetic rule of library classification. Protégé 5.2 was used as an editor for the ontology using the Web ontology language combined with description logic axioms. Ontology was later implemented in a local GraphDB repository to run queries over it.FindingsThe developed ontology on traditional dances (OTD) was tested using the dances of the Rabha tribes of North East India. Rabha tribes are from an indigenous mongoloid community and h...

Under these four divisions, relevant information sources regarding the purpose of the study were identified; various metadata standards released at different times were consulted.FindingsLibrary catalogue standards have undergone transitive changes from one form to another primarily influenced by the changing work environment and different forms of resource availability in libraries. Modern-day metadata standards are influenced by the opportunities provid...
