The Act includes a legal doctrine called the “declaration of incompatibility.”
Declarations of incompatibility are judicial declarations that may be issued by the courts when a petitioner claims that United Kingdom legislation was incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights and his or her human rights have been violated.
Declarations of incompatibility are non-binding and have no effect on the validity of the relevant legislation unless Parliament voluntarily agrees to amend the incompatibility through the legislative process.
This article argues that the declaration of incompatibility doctrine within the Human Rights Act 1998 is an ineffective and unreliable method for protecting human rights in the United Kingdom.

The Baroque period in German-speaking territories began later than in the rest of Europe, due to the Thirty Years War, which ravaged central Europe from 1618 until the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648. The death and destruction of the war opened German society to cultural transformation through a strengthening of the middle class and bourgeois intellectualism, as well as a growing acceptance of women's participation in the public sphere. This paper will argue that the development of unique "women's spaces" in courts of nobility, literary societies, and religious institutions, as well as support from male relatives and intellectuals, worked together to facilitate an unprecedented level of contribution to the literary canon during the German Baroque period.
