Etymology

From φούχτα (foúchta) with metathesis,[1] but uncertain beyond that.[2] Probably from an unattested *φουκτίζω (*phouktízō), which would be derived from Koine Greek πυκτεύω (pukteúō, to fight), i.e. "the body part that one fights with".[3]
