Both retellings, however, disrupt the established literary canon by foregrounding the marginalised female voices by using language as a means of resistance and reclamation. They reorient the myth not towards glorification but critique, reminding the readers that the silence of women in epic narratives is not accidental but structural and that reclaiming voice is a political act. In doing so, texts like-The Penelopiad, and 'The Silence of the Girls' hold multiple narrative voices used in very innovative ways, especially the twelve maids who sing choral and the choral interludes, forcing the reader with questions such as class, injustice, and power. Taking the argument further, Atwood's work not only gives voice to the voiceless, who are historically voicelesswillingly or unwillingly, but also critiques the literary canon's complicity in maintaining hierarchies of gender and class.
