New Environmental/Ecological Paradigm).

Despite its widespread use, the scale is subject to criticism. In order to check the researchers' assumptions about the problematic nature of the statements in the scale, and encouraged by the broader context of the NEP scale application, we decided to conduct a qualitative research. The goal was to gain a better insight into the respondents' thoughts underlying their evaluations of the statements in the NEP scale. More precisely, we wanted to find out: 1) what kind of environmental narrative (pro-environmental, non-environmental or undefined) is reflected in the respondents' answers, and whether their responses in the scale and the respondents' environmental narratives in the interview are mutually consistent or not; 2) what characteristics of the claims expressed in the scale influence respondents' narrative in the interview. The sample consisted of the students of the Teacher Education Faculty, University of Belgrade. The NEP scale and the interview protocol were the instruments used in the research. After completing the NEP scale, a guided semi-structured interview was conducted on the reasoning underlying the respondent's evaluations of the statements in the scale. The research was conducted individually. The data were processed using the program for qualitative research MAXQDA 12. In the first part of data processing, for the

The goal was to examine the links between different motivational orientations and learning strategies among university students in Serbia and explore the relations between these variables on the one hand and academic achievement, gender, field of study, and year of study on the other. A total of 520 students enrolled in art, science, and social science studies at universities in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, and Kragujevac filled out the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ). The obtained data were processed via a factor analysis, correlations, and non-parametric tests. We isolated six factors, including Self-Confidence and Orientation Towards Understanding, Elaboration and Metacognitive Self-Regulation Strategies, Critical Thinking and Orientation Towards Expanding Knowledge, Orientation Towards Ext...

In accordance with this, in this paper, we are studying mutual connection of the school climate and students’ achievements. When we are talking about the school climate and students’ achievements, the stress is moved from studying personal traits to studying the school context and quality of interaction between students, students and teachers, school and family, school and local community. There is a review of results in this paper gained by TIMSS 2007 trial research done in the 2006 in 34 primary schools in Serbia. Shown results refer to school climate as one of contextual segments done in this research. Studying school climate within TIMSS 2007 trial research included analysis of different indicators of school climate which refer to important participants of pedagogical-educational process-students, teachers and parents. Based on th...

The foundation of this principle is the idea that scientific and technological achievements should be useful and applicable in everyday life of an individual. The paper presents the main determinants of the STS project (Science, Technology and Society Project) which deals with studying the influence of scientific research and technological development on social, political and cultural values. The basic goal of education within the STS Project is to enable the students to understand and learn to incorporate the achievements of scientific and technological development in their own cultural, ecological, economic, political and social contexts. In addition to this, the paper presents the role of sciences in connecting science, technology and the society and describes the possibilities of incorporating a similar project in chemistry instruction in our school. Pilot study which was...

Program predškolskog vaspitanja i obrazovanja Republike Srbije svrstava matematičke, naučne i tehnološke kompetencije među klјučne kompetencije za celoživotno učenje (Osnove programa predškolskog vaspitanja i obrazovanja, 2018). Savet Evropske unije prepoznaje matematičku kompetenciju sa osnovama prirodnih nauka i tehnologije u svom okviru klјučnih kompetencija.

The development of positive attitudes among students towards children with developmental difficul... more The development of positive attitudes among students towards children with developmental difficulties is a significant precondition for successful functioning of these children in regular school. This article presents the results of a research aimed at examining the level of readiness of regular-school students to accept peers with developmental difficulties. The sample comprised 471 fifth-grade students from ten primary schools in Serbia. The aim was achieved by: a) examining regular-school students' attitudes towards joint education with children with developmental difficulties and whether they would associate with and help such peers; b) examining the readiness of regular-school students to accept children with developmental difficulties, dependent upon the school's inclusion/exclusion in the inclusive education projects; and c) examining the teachers' opinions on the willingness of other students to accept children with developmental difficulties. The students whose ...

The review of characteristics and influences of environmental factors enables readers to view the importance they have on ecological pedagogical work and education. Although each of these environmental factors has an important role in the development of the ecological consciousness and gaining necessary experience in this field, the primary role is given to a school which enables adoption of ecological knowledge in systematic and organized way. It is to be talked about how much the school potentials are used and how much the school manages to answer contemporary needs of ecological pedagogical work and education. The school should justify the role of the leading factor in forming the ecological consciousness of the students, curricula should be more contemporary, tea...

We wanted to explore the manner in which the relationship between mankind and nature (man as a master of nature or a part of it) and our role in its preservation (instrumental reasons or intrinsic value of nature) were presented in the Science and Social Studies curricula over a longer period of time. Content analysis method was implemented in our research. According to the analysis, the timeline of the Science and Social Studies curricula goes from marked anthropocentrism and anatagonism between man and nature (the 50s and 60s of the 20th century), through moderate anthropocentrism with hints of ecocentrism (from the 70s up to the end of the 20th century), to the dominant ecocentrism (in the contemporary 21st century curricula). The subject of the research are the competencies which the Music teachers observe as necessary for successful completing the task within vocal-instrumental teaching and outcomes of music education. Our opinion is that the basis of teacher’s beliefs is implicit pedagogies which maintain its understanding of the process of learning and teaching. Results of the realised research show that normative/standard classifications of the desired competencies of teachers are not in accordance with those which our teachers, in our sample, consider as the relevant ones. The results suggest the existence of implicit pedagogies within which teachers primarily value personal factors as the relevant ones for the outcomes of education. Pedagogical aspect of education is more important for teacher...

A total of 850 pupils aged between 13 and 15 from 11 schools (5 elementary schools and 6 secondary schools) took part in this research. The dataset obtained from the scale was analysed via the principal component analysis factor extraction method, and a varimax rotation was applied. This study found all items load on four dimensions: Balance of Nature, Humans over Nature, Limits to Growth and Environmental Philosophy. Differences between subgroups occur in three out of four dimensions. The students’ environmental worldviews were determined by providing the frequency distribution of their responses. Both subgroups in the Republic of North Macedonia and Serbia are (slightly) environmentally conscious, with an ecological ...

The goal of this paper is to establish whether environmental activism can be predicted on the basis of environmental knowledge, proenvironmental attitudes, affect, and behavior. In addition to this, the goal of the research is to examine to what extent individuals of different activism levels differ in terms of knowledge of basic environmental problems, expression of the attitude of ecological apathy, anthropocentrism, belonging to nature and connection with nature, as well as usual practices of pro-environmental behavior. By surveying a sample of adult respondents from Serbia who belong to a group devoted to an environmental problem (N=255), we have discovered that general environmental knowledge alone does not contribute to pro-environmental behaviors or environmental activism. The predictors of activism are pro-environmental attitudes, an affective attitude towards ...

The motivation of teachers to try, by means of reflection and experimentation, to innovate their educational practice pre?sents the base for this qualitative study. The goal of our research was to understand the experience of the teachers in preparation and realisation of project-based learning based on interdisciplinary approach, with the support of facilitators. The research was carried out by using the process of facilitation during school year 2018/2019 in a primary school in the centre of Belgrade. The participants were three teachers (of Serbian language and literature, Russian language, and music culture), as well as associates of the Institute for Educational Research with roles of facilitators and researchers. We used the group interview technique and semi-structured guide fo...

In our country, the studies dealing with this problem are fairly rare. Using this as a starting point, the aim of our study was to obtain an insight into class teachers? experiences in implementing innovative teaching methods during the in-service training programmes whose focus was on encouraging the cooperation and creativity of students during classes. This study is a part of a more extensive experimental research that was conducted at a primary school in Belgrade within the Trefoil educational model. The sample included eight first-grade and second-grade class teachers, whose conversations, which took place during ten meetings of the teachers? board, were analysed. A qualitative thematic content analysis was used in data processing. The results indicate that the previous knowledge ...

This process was slow and often out of sync with the development of scientific thought and social circumstances caused by the global environmental crisis. On the other hand, although environmental protection has been included in the analysed curricula, the reasons for its inclusion are either vague or of instrumental nature. Environmental protection arising from intrinsic values of natural entities, and not (only)
