As we have fully entered the 21st century our planet has gained several advancements and improvem... more As we have fully entered the 21st century our planet has gained several advancements and improvements, while at the same time reaching an unprecedent level of prosperity for most of its inhabitants. At the same time the discrepancies of development between various parts of our planet have never been more visible due to the extraordinary development of all manners of communication and information sources. One of the most visible areas in which such discrepancies are hard to be ignored, due to its far-reaching impact is the management of waste products namely the waste produced by the daily activity of the populationmunicipal waste. There are countries which have implemented management systems which result in a net minus quantity of wastemeaning that that specific country imports waste in order to utilize it for its own industries and there are countries which have become storage facilities for the waste generated by other countries. This study has as main purpose a comparison of the systems in such countries from the most developed ones to the ones which are currently the least developed in this area, by taking a look at what the largest waste management companies in Zanzibar and Norway are doing and analyzing their strong and weak point while providing solutions for improvement.

In the current economic context, at the global level, the problem faced by organizations is deter... more In the current economic context, at the global level, the problem faced by organizations is determined by the means of environmental protection and the reduction of the negative effects of the ongoing activities, adopted at the organizational level. Thus, the objective of the research in this paper is to identify concepts such as sustainability/sustainable development within organizations and their financing mechanisms. The aim of the research is to contribute to increasing the knowledge of the tools for the sustainable development of companies, through the new sustainability approach that aims to re-educate both the business environment and the consumer, the ESG standard being a competitiveness trigger. The volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity of the mechanisms developed and adopted at the level of organizations, being able to be reduced by adopting effective strategies based on ESG principles at the managerial level. The research methodology includes both secondary data collected from European Commission information sources, articles and existing specialist content in the direction of the development of ESG factors and the VUCA world, as well as the authors' interpretation based on the collected information. The existence of funding instruments such as the Horizon Europe, Life Programme, Innovation Fund (IF) programs granted through non-reimbursable development projects to encourage sustainability directions in terms of economic, social and governance factors within organizations is demonstrated. Also, the financing of sustainable development projects contributes to the consolidation of the VUCA phenomenon, namely the realization of complex projects in both the public and private sectors, in a volatile market with unpredictable factors as a result of the globalization process.

Starting with 2030 Agenda, launched by UN Summit in New York in 2015, CSR perception begin to have a common shape. This paper is a literature review and has the intention to describe the current approach in implementing CSR in Norway, Finland and Denmark. The article also emphasizes the weaknesses of each model analyzed based on the percentage of fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from 2030 Agenda. The article also gives a solution for this unprecedented triple crisis: economic, health and environmental.

In the current context of the transition from a classical society to a society based on a smart a... more In the current context of the transition from a classical society to a society based on a smart and sustainable economy, the integration of the needs of communities at economic, social and environmental level into complex projects is a constant concern. The implementation of complex projects in terms of volume and structure can no longer be covered at the individual level only by the institutions that require public-private partnerships, so it is practically necessary to achieve combinations between the different alternatives available. The objective of this research is to evaluate the opportunity of financing through public-private partnership of public investment projects, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages associated. In this paper we used the qualitative research method based on the analysis of articles in the literature and we highlighted the context of developing this source of funding and the relationships and responsibilities that can ensure good management between different categories of partners. The results obtained from the study of the specialized literature proved that the investments made in PPP can be extremely useful and efficient tools for the sustainable development of communities, but in Romania they are insufficiently exploited compared to the classic investments financed from local and central budgets. This topic has a high degree of novelty for Romania, where the institutions are still reluctant to identify and select a private partner, which indicates a lack of involvement.

Its purpose is to analyse the importance of billionaires in the economy of the 21st century. The paper analyses three basic questions about the billionaires namely, their number, the cause of their existence and the consequences of that existence. The methodology of the paper is basically search of data and information online coupled with reasoning about the topic. We conclude that billionaires are few in number but their importance is rsing. They are explained by many factors, most important of all the intangible assets which govern the economy of the current times; and their social, economic and political importance cannot be underestimated. So, as a general conclusion we find that billionaires are a distinctive feature of the economy of the 21st century, and that they are here to stay, and, wthin a ever more interdependent world, they will survive as long as they will be considered a force of economic well being,

The volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA) of the business environment require ... more The volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA) of the business environment require that investment projects carried out within organizations also include sustainability aspects, in order to maintain a superior competitive position. Investors as well as other stakeholders from organizations are more inclined to companies that implement sustainable investment projects compared to traditional ones for which only profit and financial benefits matter. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to reveal how the rapid and often unfounded changes specific to today's world, the VUCA world influences the way that projects are carried out within organizations. Particular attention was also paid to the way in which organizations implement project-specific activities and sub-activities, in order to ensure sustainable development, even in a crisis situation. In order to achieve these objectives, a bibliometric and systematic analysis of the specialized literature was carried out, analyzing the present studies and articles from the area, that revealed the influence of the VUCA world on the business environment. Thus, this paper aims to present how the VUCA world affects organizations, the effects that complex and rapid organizational changes specific to the VUCA world have on the sustainability of investment projects, the impact of crises of the sustainable development on organizations, the implications of the VUCA world on strategies organizations. Following the analyzes carried out, the results showed that the elements specific to the VUCA world have a great influence on the sustainable development of organizations and, implicitly, on the projects carried out within it.

The latest developments in natural soft drinks in the Romanian market signal significant changes ... more The latest developments in natural soft drinks in the Romanian market signal significant changes in consumers' perceptions of the sustainability concept. While the necessity of preserving natural resources and ensuring a decent level of healthiness seem to be steadily embraced by the Romanian society, the lack of long enough time series to acknowledge this shift render impossible a traditional econometric validation of these recent trends in economic thinking. The large number of European-funded projects for upgrading technology in the Romanian sector of natural soft drinks raises the question whether the learning by doing effect dispersed into the Romanian managers' investment decision making from the perspective of both economic and food sustainability. This paper presents the construction and the evaluation of an Analytical Network Process (ANP) market share model, which emerged from extended in-depth interviews with 10 managers of the main Romanian natural soft drinks producers. This model differs from traditional market share ANP ones since concepts like either food of economic sustainability were considered as significant driving factors. The coincidence between the estimated market share and the actual one, expressed by Saaty's compatibility index, validate this model and offer comparative numerical weights' of importance for food or economic sustainability.

Given the specificity of the tourism industry, the takeover of a business depends on the managerial capacity of successor. Leadership is considered one of the key success factors in the businesses and therefore of their transformation. Leadership is also very important when we talk about the relationship between the members of the organization and motivating staff within them. This paper proposes to establish which are the appropriate leadership key skills, competence and knowledge for micro and small enterprises managers, for successfully taking over enterprises, within Europe's tourism industry. For a clear picture about leadership competences, we considered the following key characteristics: management successors set an exemplary standard to co-workers and give directions both professionally and personally, management successors implement the necessary changes, management successors are open minded to new ideas and know how to assess risks, management successors check compliance of colleagues with professional, social and quality oriented standards, management successors are giving feedback and support personal development, management successors resolve conflict with and between co-workers. The secondary objective of the paper is to test correlation between leadership knowledge, skills and competences for successful business succession. To achieve these objectives, we analysed and interpreted partial results of a quantitative research, based on an online questionnaire. The results of this research can constitute a foundation to further policy papers for the business environment in European tourism.

For Romania, as for the other countries, members of the European Union, this concern has been intensified by the necessity of alignment to the European directives regarding electric and electronic equipment waste management, especially to the Directive 2002/96/CE. Although the waste quantities collected until now are far away from the goal proposed by EU, progresses have been made in what regards the implementation of an appropriate management system in Romania.
